The movie trailer for Zack Snyder’s big screen adaptation of Watchmen has hit the internet, just in case you can’t wait until that midnight screening of The Dark Knight.

I’m shocked at just how much footage Snyder shows us in this first trailer. Dr. Manhattan? The Night Owl Ship? Mars? It’s all right out of the comic book. This is a fanboys wet dream. I had hesitations about if Warner Bros could market an adaptation of Watchmen to the masses, but they’ve done it. That said, Ozymandias still looks stupid in full motion. I need to see his thing on the big screen. Anyone with midnight tickets to The Dark Knight is in for a three hour long geekgasm. It will be exhausting. First this Watchmen trailer, then the Terminator 4 teaser, and then the greatest comic book movie of all time.

The trailer is now available in HD on Apple.com. I want to hear your thoughts. Please comment below!

A complex, multi-layered mystery adventure, Watchmen is set in an alternate 1985 America in which costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the “Doomsday Clock” - which charts the USA’s tension with the Soviet Union - is permanently set at five minutes to midnight. When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the washed-up but no less determined masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion - a ragtag group of retired superheroes, only one of whom has true powers - Rorschach glimpses a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy with links to their shared past and catastrophic consequences for the future. Their mission is to watch over humanity…but who is watching the watchmen? Watchmen hits theaters on March 6th 2009.

    'nuff said.

My god it's amazing. Anyone who hasn't read the graphic novel needs to IMMEDIATELY.

    It's fantastic.
  • JoshJosh
    Move over Dark Knight.
  • whooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Lynchpin
...is that some world trade center? 00:31?
  • Andy
the visuals looks great as expected, but i'm still dubious about how well the story will translate to the big screen...
  • lancelewis
WOW. with a ton of CGI left to clean up, it looks impressive this early. STOKED.
  • Lynchpin: It is set in an alternative version of 1970s/1980's New York City
  • pj
god. words can't describe how relieved i am after seeing this...
  • charles
    nice
  • kyleelyk
yeah yeha i noticed the WTC too...
    whats up with that
  • Retro
HOLY **** speechless. Let the hype begin. DC is on a role if they can keep the quality up like this.
  • jank
    HO-LY-FUCK.

and using a smashing pumpkins song for the trailer!

i'm suddenly more excited for this more than i am for the dark knight!
  • Beauty.
  • The people will look up and shout "Save us" and to that I will look down and whisper "no"

    ...some compelling dialogue there.

Im not a fan at all of the way 300/Sin City is shot and this looks like its taking a similar parth, which disappoints me. For being the "most celebrated graphic novel of all time" the trailer felt lacking. For those of us who haven't read the graphic novel, we don't even have any idea what its about, the trailer just plays some bad music and does a few mouse clicks for some unimpressive CGI (with the exception of a few clips). I'd like to see a better cut trailer.
  • lancelewis
the story is set in 1985. yes, WTC.
  • Palmer
    I wet myself a little.
  • John
That Smashing Pumpkins song better just be temp music... because I don't like it.

Dr. Manhattan and Roscarch look perfectly realized. This trailer has completely convinced me, but it definitely has intrigued me.
  • dopiestghost
HOLY CRAP! As someone who loves the book but hasn't been particularly about the movie, I can say this changed all that. This is a perfect teaser -- who can watch that and not get interested? It's one of the coolest looking trailers I've ever seen, too.

And, yes, those are the twin towers. Remember, this takes place in 1985.
  • Meli
This goes on the anticipation list for '09.

    "Visionary" director Zak Snyder?

Yeah, uh. Dawn of the Dead, 300, some music videos and a Subaru commercial...

Dude still hasn't exactly blown me away.

I'm on the fence about this trailer. The amount of CGI and slow-motion makes me worry, but there's definitely a lot taken directly from the comic. I don't think this should have bee given to a young director. Zak Snyder has not produced anything of any serious artistic merit. I was really hoping this wouldn't just look like another superhero movie.
  • Looks awesome. I wasn't the biggest fan of the book (don't get me wrong, it was very good, just not my thing), but I'll definitely be seeing this in theaters.
  • jarede1393
what is the name of that pumpkins song that so perfectly blends with the mood
  • Christopher Edwards
    Damm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stupid Snake documentary i was watching!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I have to wait till Friday morning now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Brian
It looks incredible! Visually just looks great. Im going to wait on saying the actual movie is great. Till I actually see the film. But by looking at the teaser it just looks fantastic. I want to go and pick up my copy of Watchmen and start to read it all over again. When did Paramount help with producing this movie? I thought it was just being made solely my Warner Bros.
  • I really want to be excited for this but zach snyder is directing.
  • marlow
    And the link is dead.
  • jank
    @jarede1393

The Beginning Is The End Is The Beginning.

it's from their rarities and b-sides album.

not to be confused with the song they used for that horrible batman movie.
  • Brian
Jarede the song is "The End is the Beginning is the End" it was off of the Batman & Robin soundtrack. This is the 2nd version of the song.
  • GregoryV
the links dead but thank god for youtube.

    watchman...whew

this is where i get all japanese school girl giddy
  • jank
no brian. wrong song. wrong album.
    hush.
there will be no more mention of that movie to this song.
  • Marko
Uhm, aren't both songs on the Batman and Robin Soundtrack? One is at the beggining, the other is at the end.
  • jank
yeah but its on their rarities album also. which is a much better album to associate the song to.
  • The Jezzus
Links dead and Youtube quality sucks.
  • dvq
dear god, i love the slow-paced trailers (i.e. 300), looking forward to it!.
PD: agree with jarede1393, love the music, blends perfectly.
  • ahhhhh, i dunno. the trailer looks nice and the movie will probably be entertaining in its own way, but i'm still iffy about this. i'm not sure that you can do watchmen in the span of one movie. like i said though, it looks nice and i'll probably see it.
  • Joey
    anyone find a working link?
  • O
    not working
  • krackajap
Dog carcass in alley this morning, tire thread on burst stomach. This city is afraid of me. I have seen its true face.

The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown.

The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout "Save us!"...

... and I'll look down, and whisper "No."
  • Ozza
    broken link... too bad!
  • Oh. My. Fucking. GOD. If the story translates as well as the visuals, this is going to make IRON MAN and (maybe) DARK KNIGHT look like METEOR MAN. Oh MAN, this looks great!
  • Superman
    Batman who?

To those who didn't catch it early, seems like you gotta wait till tommorow to see it.
  • Chuck Phoenix
Damn broken link from H-E- Double Hockey Sticks.. I hope its as good as everyones sayin. I dont see why empire took it down.. I am going to go on a watchman quest.. Metor Man Juan? Thats pretty harsh.. haha
  • Mike
Whether or not the movie is any good, they sure did splice together a hell of a good trailer. I wonder if it was cut by the same team that did the trailer for the Fountain. The last scene shown with the contraption (sorry I'm not all that familiar with the series) rising in what looks to be the pre-dawn light...then the ghostly whisper as the logo is revealed...reminds me of the fountain trailer, which I think I watched 47 times.
  • Looks as brilliant as it should.
