The advance ticket sales of The Dark Knight continues to point to a huge opening weekend at the box office. The Christopher Nolan comic book sequel is currently outselling three of the Top-10 Performing Films of All-Time at the same point in the sales cycle. According to MovieTickets.com, The Dark Knight has sold out over 150 performances in Los Angeles and New York alone. That’s more than three times as many advance tickets as Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, more than twice as many as Spider-Man 3 and almost twice as many as Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers at the same point in the sales cycle for each film. According to Steve Mason, the only two films to do this kind of advance online business were Star Wars: Epsiode III – Revenge of the Sith, and Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire.

I just brought my ticket for the 24th at the local pictures and the bloke told me to turn up an hour earlier to get into before the people who have not paid yet.

    Cant wait.

Of course, there's still two more days (where there'll be even MORE action).

if it beats Titanic my lifes goal will be achieved.
  • Now that's a life goal worth having.

Why is /Film, and many of its readers, so bothered about the film's financial prospects?
  • got my tickets on sunday... counting the days
  • I havent been able to buy a ticket. It's already too sold otu :(

I will hopefully catch it on a Sunday afternoon matinee!!

mmmmmmmmmmmmm Christian Bale is so fine. He needs to take off his clothes for the ladeeeeez
  • A Better Class of Criminal
Yeah, I really hope it goes to at least #2 in the next few days.

Batman will kick Daniel Radcliffs way-to-old-to-pass-as-a-boy-wizard ass!

I'm O.K. with Star Wars owning the #1 slot though... either one makes me happy.
  • Bottom line here is The character of JOKER is box-office GOLD! He obviously appeals to movie goers that aren't hard core Batman fans!

    Hi,

    I'm from Malaysia here.
Over here TDK is opening a day earlier on 17th July, I've bought tickets for the 1st show which is at 12:30 am (17 July), so basically there is only 23 hours++ to go...

Oh, after 3 years of waiting... finally!!! :)

I think I'll watch it again on IMAX next week.

Let's make TDK the biggest superhero movie of all time, & kick Spidey 3 (I do love Spidey 1 & 2, but 3 is just sooooo disappointing) off the opening week record!! :)

This world deserves a better class of summer blockbuster, and TDK is going to give it to us......... :)
  • I was just browsing and there are already people posting Want Ads on craigslist for IMAX tickets in Orlando

    Ahaha.......only 3rd highest. lol
  • J Butler
    Btw...........Star Wars for the win!
  • Zera
Australians are watching the film right now, I believe.

That's great that it made it that high. Especially for a franchise like this getting a complete reboot.

This is also not counting the overall walk-in ticket sales by the weeks end. This film is all over everyones lips. I can't wait to see it in 3 days so the stress of being so overly-excitement for so fucking long, will stop.
  • TheDaftPunk
That's odd, I saw both Star Wars Episode III and Goblet of Fire opening day and I didn't have to get advance tickets...
  • dr_foreverclear
It's all part of the plan.......

@ Ali: The reason we're all concerned about how well this movie does financially is that the more money dark knight makes, the higher the chance is that nolan and co. will return/strike again.
  • I don't buy that. There's a frenzied, feverish, fetishistic approach towards the film's eventual grosses on this site. This vicarious thrill is emblematic of fanboys. Rooting for a film - one as massive as The Dark Knight, no less - is an uneasy concept for me, especially if I have yet to see the bitch (like so very many of the nerds on this site, and others).

It's going to make money. And if one had even an iota of an idea with regards to the current business practices of the industry in general, and WB in particular, they would know that a sequel is guaranteed.

But even that should be secondary (it should actually be anathema to art appreciation, but I am meeting you halfway). And I am not even saying that it's unique to Batman fans (Lord knows there is enough of it across the entire nerd spectrum): but it isn't any less pathetic. If you're going to root for something, root for a sports team.

"If you’re going to root for something, root for a sports team."

haha, indignation is one of my favorite comedies brought to an internet forum. I love when people post on any forum and begin throwing the nerd and geek terminology around as if to separate themselves from the rest of the pack. Be still my righteous internet male.

(I'm having sex with my girlfriend right now as I type this by the way.)

It's poised to beat Spiderman 3 now. It's probably gonna do 130-140 Mil or 150-160 Mil. It's down to crunch time sales right now. That will be the decisive factor.
  • Dan Just the Facts Man
Have not seen the new Batman movie and am looking forward to viewing it. I am looking at the all time top grossing films adjusted for ticket price inflation and the facts might quell some of the bravado bragging that this or that movie is the all time box office best seller. Gone with the Wind sold nearly 200 million tickets in theaters adjusted for inflation it would have box office take of $1.6 billion dollars. So I think people should curb their enthusiam as far which is the real biggest box office movies of all time are. The rest of the top ten are as follows : Star Wars: A new Hope $1.3 billion
    The Sound of Music $1.1
    ET $1
    The Ten Commandments $904 mil
    Titanic $890
    Jaws $884
    Doctor Zhivago $868
    The Exorcist $789
    Snow White $758
