I know that some people are turned off by The Dark Knight viral stuff, and I can understand why some would have this viewpoint as running around in an online and real world scavenger hunt for a new video clip might not be everyone’s idea of a good time. But having seen the film, let me tell you that some of the viral web stuff will expand your experience of the movie, and fill in some of the gaps not explored on the big screen.

The latest edition of Gotham Tonight features an interview with Harvey Dent. Both Dent, played by Aaron Eckhard and news reporter Mike Engel, played by Anthony Michael Hall, appear in the film. This isn’t just superfluous marketing, but a supplement to that actual movie. I highly recommend watching all the Gotham Tonight episodes (which are freely available on GothamCableNews.com) before seeing the film. And while most of these television episodes serve as a prequel to the film, the Det interview actually interconnects with the bank robbery which happens at the beginning of the film (and was seen on the IMAX cut of I Am LEgend). You can watch the new episode with the Dent interview embedded below from YouTube or on in higher resolution on GCN.

That's pretty impressive viral marketing there. Very extensive stuff.

P.S: I love how batman is now referred to as "The Batman" is sounds allot cooler. That might be Heath Ledger's fault though...

Notice the mention of a "Massive Anti-Viral Campaign" in the news crawl. I loves me some Meta-Humor.

I found the Dark Knight viral campaign to be rather boring and personally underwhelming but I have to say that I do love these Gotham Tonight segments. Aaron Eckhart did a good job at summing up his character in 7 minutes.
  • hilariously strange and bizarre.

These videos are better than some of the Viral marketing.

I cant wait for the 25th.
  • My thought on "Batman" vs. "The Batman" is to draw attention to "THE Dark Knight"

Maybe I'm a bit vested in this since my name is actually Mike Engel LOL, but from the start I've thought that there was a third alter ego in this movie, hence The Dark Knight instead of callin him Batman and the glimpses of multiple Batmen in scenes to be found online, the hair color of one of the "Bruce Wayne's" standing in front of the suit in one of the trailers seems lighter and the careful wording in the releases makes me wonder if some Dark Knight was going around vigilante style, people mistake him for the real Batman, causing the real Batman to question himself when the media plays up his acting outside of the Law and and and...

If so this viral marketing playing up the part that Anthony Michael Hall has, as being minor strictly for promo / cameo slot, yet a time ago he was believed to be playing a larger roll possibly as the Joker right?

I forget a lot of things since I bumped my head and as I said the coincidence of having the same name more than likely is biasing me but what do you all think?

I eat this stuff up just for the entertainment value. What else do you do when you're stuck in front of a computer all day? Can't wait for the actual flick!
