Now that everyone is all of a sudden excited for the video game to big screen adaptation of Max Payne, new promotional material has begun to leak out. This batch of six badass promotional photos, with frames which look directly ripped from the game itself, were released on the film’s official website (although, I found them on FirstShowing). Max Payne hits theaters on October 17th.

Looks like Wanted mixed with Sin City.
I am a fan of the games and have friends who are hardcore Max Payne players.
I think this will have to convince me abit more.

Although they are hilarious in the right situation, I probably wouldn’t embark on a revenge fueled killing spree with novelty gun lighters..

not bad

I used to be quite a fan of the games but does anyone else feel that this movie is a total miscast with Marky Mark? I have nothing against him (I think he’s great in ensemble films); I just think he’s totally wrong for the role. Why not go with a lesser known actor like Dean Winters who looks and sounds the part. I see this movie as a missed opportunity.
The imagery is cool if not just completely derivative of the games.

zzzzzzzzzzz. pass. like filmdrunk reported: this is a bad movie based on a bad video game based on bad movies.

@Lee: when criticizing a writer for typos, it helps to avoid making your own (”i”, “its”, “cmon”, etc.).
The promotional shots look cool, but I agree with others’ concerns about Marky Mark as Max Payne. I also worry about the rumored PG-13 rating, which is definitely not derivative of the game.

Part of this (the swimming away from bullets in the lake scene) was filmed at McMaster University in Hamilton. My buddies got to work the wave generators and hang with Marky Mark!

I’m excited for this movie cause its been long enough that the John Woo, gun ballet stuff is finally cool again.

After playing and enjoying the games, these are spot on. Hopefully his acting won’t be as wooden as The Happening.

The Punisher and the Matrix Revolutions
Yaaaaaawwwwwwwnnnnnn

Wow, gag, you clearly have never played the games.
I like the photos, they look very much like the comic-cutscenes from the game.

I think they look pretty shitty. I’m not excited for this film because Mark Wahlberg is in it. He doesn’t fit the persona of Max Payne at all. He seems too whiny to be Max. I would think David Boreanaz or Tom Jane for this role. Might be too close to Punisher but at least they are dark and brooding.

@Christopher Edwards
Actually it’s straight from the video games. This is what the graphic novel sequences looked like.
July 11th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
@Matthew
Funny that you mention Tom Jane considering Max Payne plot wise is a complete rip on The Punisher. Mob/Secret Society/Drug Dealers kill protagonist’s family. he then loses his job and goes apeshit. The only real difference is the John Woo-like cinematography.
But to defend Max Payne the game. It did actually have bullet time built into the game long before The Matrix was ever released, even though the game itself was not out on shelves..

Whoa wait a second, wallberg? Is the lead.
No waaaay I’m seeing this.
July 11th, 2008 at 1:15 pm
Tom Jane would have been so good. I know he pretty much did it in Punisher, but, man I love Tom Jane.

ANY VILLAIN?
I am leaning toward saying that the less we see the better with this one, but its friday, and wahlberg is a good actor. i’m a fan…

i can’t understand why everyone is bitchin
July 11th, 2008 at 1:49 pm
these would make incredible wallpapers.

By looks of it the movie seems very R with the drug stuff and the demons. I think all the people with the demons are seeing max payne’s demons when he kills them or they die. Like the guy in the sub way seeing the the light that was a train.

is’nt the whole ” shooting two guns while diving to the ground ” bit ………WAY WAY OVERDONE??????????????????
it’s as bad as the “mexican standoff” gun thing…..
July 11th, 2008 at 4:53 pm
Whoaaaaaaa these pics look alwsome!! Im impressed :)
Max Payne looks gangsta!
These pics remind of the video game all the way

Wahlberg is perfect for the role. I mean, I’d loved Clive Owen in that role, too but don’t forget: Basically Max Payne IS a simple revenge story. I don’t think, there’s much more hidden in it.
(And I played the game and enjoyed it)
July 11th, 2008 at 11:17 pm
Wow those are real? I thought you had taken them into Photoshop. Count me out on seeing this movie.
July 12th, 2008 at 3:25 pm
Where can i get those flamethrower pistols?
July 12th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
I was playing this game the other day, and that cheesy look out of the gun barrels is exactly what the flames look like when you go pause the game in the middle of firing.
Is it just me, or did it look like Mark Walhberg tripped over himself in an attempt to dive in bullet time?

A worthless film based on a worthless game, plagiarizing an earlier worthless film. How wonderful! The sycophants will give it their (parents’) money, though, just as they did with that other excrement, “Hitman”.

Oh, children - there are no “graphic novels”. COMIC BOOKS - learn that. You won’t make the brainless doodles seem any better than the mindless trash they are by trying to sneak the word “novel” in their description.
July 13th, 2008 at 8:29 pm
pretty well done technically but is it that refreshing?

“Oh, children - there are no “graphic novels”. COMIC BOOKS - learn that. You won’t make the brainless doodles seem any better than the mindless trash they are by trying to sneak the word “novel” in their description.”
they might be mindless trash but i guess you’re too short-minded to realize how good movies inspired from COMIC BOOKS can be and how much potential they still have( ex. The Dark Knight)
