Jon Favreau

Marvel has finally reached a deal with Jon Favreau to return for Iron Man 2. Nikki Finke reports that the deal was made after the studio relented and put out a “definitely” richer offer to Favreau. For the last two months speculation ran wild as to if Marvel Studios would bring Favreau back for the sequel. Inside sources said that Favreau wanted a modest raise, but the comic book turned movie production company’s initial offer wasn’t much more than what the filmmaker earned for the first film.

The second Iron Man film is scheduled for an April 2010 release. But with no screenplay in development, even Favreau has expressed concern over an unrealistic timeline. Favreau wrote back in June:

“This genre of movie is best when it is done thoughtfully and with plenty of preparation. It might be better to follow the BB/DK, X/X2 three year release pattern than to scramble for a date. It is difficult because there are no Marvel 09 releases and they need product, but I also think we owe it to the fans to have a great version of IM2 and, at this point, we would have less time to make it than the first one.”

I’m very happy that Favreau is back, but will Marvel give the filmmaker enough time to develop a worthy follow-up? The last thing anyone wants is another Spider-Man 3.

I’m just glad he has enough sense to make statments like that. It means Marvel, as a studio, is listening on some level.

    Thank God!!!

Lets hope that they keep the same writing team as the first film.

Be interesting to see what he will say about the March 09 filming date now.

well i’m not too worried about the timeframe didnt they say they already know what they wana do i mean handjod is not anything like the tony stark demon is a bottle. or maybe they will go looking for captiain america on this one

IRON MAN 2: FINDING NEMO lol

but in all seriouseness though this is the best year for movies ina long time, i cant even remeber when we had so many movies that actually felt like they were worth paying for

I’m sure they’ve got a decent plan in place. Favreau doesn’t strike me as the kind of guy to take a payday and piss off fans. This is fantastic news - the first one was friggin’ AMAZING! It’s my 2nd favorite superhero film… but will probably get knocked to 3rd in a week…

    About time!! Retarded studio execs…

At least they’re being realistic. I still think they’ll do great things with this franchise. I think Spider-Man 3 just had the stakes too high and everyone tried to add so much to make it better. With Iron Man being pretty minimal (i.e. they only had one villain–besides the terrorists–and he didn’t show up ’til the end), I think they won’t pile on too much in the second.

    This is really good news.

The three year wait is worth it to get a quality finished product. I just hope they can come up with an interesting villian next time.

this is great to hear, but im really stressed out about this release date. i dont mind waiting 3 or 4 years for iron man 2 as long as it is as good or better than the first one, which at this point is my favorite superhero movie of all time.. i think it is time for a petition.

    “They finally relented…”

What is wrong with these people??

Sorry you might have to pay a director that just just delivered you a home run both critically and financially.

I am so put off by their attitude

when will the spider-man 3 bitchin’ stop?! it wasn’t THAT bad!!!

  14. Gravatar

Spiderman3 ssssssucked fanboy d! Maybe they should have tried a Spiderman3D instead, much like JAWS 3D. It couldn’t have hurt. Afterall, both movies were equally as bad and totally didn’t live up to the franchise’s previous two.

Ironman rocks! The all-time best superhero movie to date!
