Sacha Baron Cohen strikes yet again. For his upcoming Borat follow-up Bruno, Cohen tricked Yossi Alpher, a former Israeli spy and Palestinian academic Ghassam Khalib into appearing in the film under the guise that it was a youth documentary. The Sun reports that Bruno mistook the militant Arab group Hamas for the food “hummus”, and commented that the Middle East conflict wasn’t nearly as bad as the feud between Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston.
“What’s the connection between a political movement and food. Why hummus?” Cohen asked, later adding: “Yesterday I threw away my pitta bread because it was dripping hummus. And it’s too high in carbohydrates.”
Cohen also made them hold hands while he sang a “crazy song about the war.” Thanks to /Film reader Luke H for the tip. Bruno is scheduled to hit theaters on May 15th 2009. I smell a Cannes premiere.

What if they finish early and show it at the Con?
More importantly, will Cohen be at the Con like he was for Borat?
That movie wasnt set to premier until November and they showed it in July!!!

I’m sorry, but I just started laughing out loud in my cube.
I love that kind of stuff. My favorite Bruno moment: On Ali G show, when he keeps on saying, “And what did you say?” “And what did he say?” Or when he tries to get a dance club manager to agree on kicking out handicapped people.
Hilarious stuff.

Ive never been a huge fan of SBC, I couldn’t sit through borat and never watched Ali-G for more than a couple of minutes at a time. But i must admit when he does make me laugh, its gold.
I spat my coke when i saw him in Sweeny todd.

i always thought that borat was a ripoff of Mahir Cagri (the turkish character from the 90’s) and now it seems that his new character is a ripoff of the japanese character HardGay.

ashi0arau,
These character archtypes have been done for a long time. Those two you mentioned aren’t the originators of this kind of material or in-character design.
But SBC but such a great spin on it. That it’s “his”.

I really think people should stop reporting on this film and character. That way people won’t see him coming. We want the funiest movie possible, so if you’re a fan, don’t support this media hype.

i wonder if his days will end in assassination, he could be like a martyr or something, that’s pretty cool!
