Christian Bale took to the defensive, insisting that he accepted the role as John Connor in Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins because it reinvents the series.
“What I saw with Terminator was what I saw with Batman Begins,” Bale told /Film at The Dark Knight junket.
But accepting another franchise role was not an easy decision in the least.
“That was actually something that I questioned greatly… ‘Do I want to do that again?’” Bale continued. “While Batman Begins was clearly an origin story and we were in many ways ignoring any of the other films that had come before it, this won’t be the case with Terminator, as we’re staying true to the mythology, certainly to one and two more than three, but it gave us the opportunity and the chance to reinvent and revitalize that. There is no point in making it otherwise. So that is my aim, and that is why I finally decided yes, I want to try this. Because that is the responsibility we have as filmmakers, and that is what I’m aiming to achieve.”
Meanwhile, the trades are reporting that Helena Bonham Carter is in talks to join the film in a “small but pivotal” role.
In the highly anticipated new installment of The Terminator film franchise, set in post-apocalyptic 2018, Christian Bale stars as John Connor, the man fated to lead the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators. But the future Connor was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row. Connor must decide whether Marcus has been sent from the future, or rescued from the past. As Skynet prepares its final onslaught, Connor and Marcus both embark on an odyssey that takes them into the heart of Skynet’s operations, where they uncover the terrible secret behind the possible annihilation of mankind. The film also stars Anton Yelchin as Kyle Reese, Bryce Dallas Howard as Kate Connor, Moon Bloodgood as Blair Williams, Common as Barnes, and Jadagrace as Star. Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins hits theaters on May 22nd 2009.

While thats great he feels that way. This project is really going to come down to the director, special effects, and the script itself. And I have little to no hope for it. Everything is pointing to a horrible, horrible end result.
I love Bale as an actor, he’s one of my fav modern actors right now. But he also did Equilibrium. And that film was some serious “shit”.

I agree with Captain Awesome. While Bale has had a good run of great movies, preliminary reviews of early scripts for Terminator 4 were mediocre at best. I am going into T4 with limited expectations.

One of Winston’s last projects was Terminator Salvation so don’t give up on the special effects just yet. Equilibrium was a bad movie but it also entertaining, can you really say those fight scenes weren’t worth watching?
I still find it amusing that people condemn projects before they’re even done filming. You never know this could end up on par with T2.

People say how great T2 was, but as films go it was a mess there were more mistakes and goofs in that movie than any other Cameron project.
Check out the overwhelming list of mistakes. I couldn’t watch it again without noticing all of them. So don’t try to put these movies on some pedestal.

Equilibrium was a college students Matrix. Seriously, Gunkata? (Say it out loud. It’s hilarious) It was like the film was designed by someone who really liked baaaaad anime.
I don’t care about goofs in T2. Even till this day, that film is straight badass. They could have had a tap-dancing mime in the background. And I would have still loved it. And I really fucking hate mimes. Did people forget the director in charge of this project?
Cameron has a great resume and has proved himself many times that he’s a great director. MCG has proven to me he makes shit.

Ok anyone who thinks the movie will be garbage shut up right now seriously weve seen nothing yet….yes it may suck and absolutly awfull but it could be a fresh start to an old story the best part of the first 3 films were the flash backs and if they have a good plot witch they seem too and with the great actors yes its not a sure fire hit but lets say it is like bb and gets people really back into the series i think thats what this is set up for so just back off on this and wait a darker grittier terminator sounds good to me!!!!!

You mean the only two good films that exist are T1 and T2. And The only good parts being the story, acting, dialogue, R-style violence and action. The only good part 3 had was some sort of car chase scene. Which I can’t seem to really remember much else.

Well first my sister is 2 so if your into that cause you couldnt get a date….. but rumors are rumors who cares i still here the riddler is in tkd but until any of us see it its just rumors and yes the flash back sences were the best parts of all 3 movies(note when sarah dies on the swimgs or all the pre cgi and all that to do the flash backs were pretty sweet) but as for the new terminator to me its not t4 even tho it leaves off where 3 kinda left it its a new beginning and as i said it could suck and be absolut shit but I bet cap amer there was one of the guys that said Heath leger(no need to get into that)……but if bales saying its like bb then you know what for now im gonna take his word for it this is the guy that wouldnt do batman if they had the nipples still on the suit so if it was cheesey campy and not up to par he wouldnt do it!!!!
And as for mcg he does suck but remeber everyone has one good movie or idea in them and if he doesnt fuck it up who knows so just wait and as for lfdh it was a kick ass movie!!!!

Yeah and lol i heard the penguine was gonna be in tkd last summer until anyone actually sees the movie theyre all just rumors(and no the riddler would suck cause then it would be another third instalment with two face and the riddler again and really cmon)but as for if bale is a cyborg or not until anyone sees the movie we dont really know and who knows if that bait and switch things right if they do it well it could be good but like ive said before just wait it out im not saying this movie is gonna end all movies im saying just wait and see and lets hope we get surprised!!!!!!!

I agree Bale is a great actor and he could make a great movie even with McG directing but its just not going to be possible if they have this PG-13 Rating. I love the Terminator and don’t want to see a bomb so help me with a campaign to force the Studio to change it to R rated, like the rest.
