Pixar’s BURN-E

When I sat down with WALL-E director Andrew Stanton earlier this week, one of the questions I asked was if they were planning to release a short film for the DVD release. For those of you who don’t know, Pixar released a computer animated short film called Mike’s Car with Monster’s Inc, Jack Jack Attack was released with The Incredibles, Mater and The Ghostlight with Cars, and Your Friend The Rat on Ratatouille. Stanton told me:

“There is going to be a sci-fi short that is very connected to WALL-E. We were very conscious of making sure this was produced at the same time as the film. And I think that everyone will be pleasantly pleased.”

I grilled him for more information but he looked over to a Disney big wig who was in the room and said “I don’t think think I’m allowed to announce it, am I?” He laughed and said “Got to give us something to talk about for the next time you’re here.”

Well UpcomingPixar was able to find out more information from a member of the orchestra of WALL-E. Apparently the some of the crew was brought back this week to record the score for the computer animated short film which will be on the DVD/Blu-ray release. The short is called Burn-E and is about a robot named, well, Burn-E. No details were revealed, but I’m assuming this little robot has something to do with fire. The music was composed and conducted by JAC Redford, who is also orchestrator on the feature film. So there you have it.

WALL-E hits theaters on June 27th 2008.

Lol. Now we're getting inside info from musicians? And even people from the orchestra? Seriously, I'd rather be surprised than have the info ruined
  • Nice. I wonder if it's an anti-piracy short. :)

Maybe it'll be about an early proto-type robot designed for waste disposal, that instead of being a trash compactor, it would simply use a flame thrower to burn all the garbage.

To this day I still say Jack Jack Attack would of made The Incredibles even better. I kinda love that more then the actual movie.

Why would it be about fire? It's just the robot's name. "Wall-E" isn't about walls.
  • Klaws
I wonder if it will be on the European releases also.
  • Marko
Oh it could possibly have nothing to do with fire. It's just a possible wild guess. The fact that it's BURN-E as opposed to BERN-E makes me wonder if the name does have some meaning behind it. Plus there are characters in the movie like L-T that's a light, PR-T that does make-up, VAQ-M which is a vacuum, HAN-S which I think is some sort of massager, and D-FIA which is a defibulator and that shows that often a character's name in this movie do have to do with their function.

the incredibles was pixars greatest film but cars was a real disapointment, i dint rate ratatouille that welll either, i wonder wether wall-e and burn-e can renew my faith in pixar

Burn-E is a welder bot who works outside the Axiom. You can barely see this in some previews. As Eve flies from outer space and through a landing dock, the doors shut and Burn-E slams his "fists" on the door in frustration. Burn-E (just as your logo depicts) is on the side of the bot.
