WALL-E Lots of Bots Featurette

Disney has released a new featurette for WALL-E called “Lots of Bots” which takes a look at the featured robots in the upcoming Pixar movie. And whats not shown in the video above is that up to 50 animators at the peak of production were working on the colorful cast. For the non main characters, Pixar created a Build-a-bot program which allowed allowed the animators to create hundreds of variations or robots using a modular robot system that combined a variety of heads, arms, bodies and feet/treads.

sounds like pixar took a hint from maxis with the build-a-bot program. maxis has the spore creature creator that lets you create fully animated creatures using various body parts, there are like 228 different parts that you can use and morph and stuff.
  • Except that this movies has been in development long before Spore was ever announced.

you might be right hector, all i know is that spore has been talked about for at least the last 6 years at maxis, i have followed it since i heard about it. i know wall-e was thought of a while back, but im not sure when they started work.. either way, the build-a-bot program can mean a lot for the gaming world.

Pixar has such an incredible ability to infuse character to any and every part of its movies. This looks like yet another great movie by the P-team.

we know what the humans on the ship look like cause of the captain, but if you look closely behind AUTO in one of the scenes you can see how they're incorporating live humans into it... on the videos and stuff.
