/Film reader Daniel C passes along word that /Film is quoted on the Australian release of Taika Waititi’s Eagle vs. Shark, which was one of my favorite films of 2007. Unfortunately Miramax Films didn’t know how to market the film, and the movie went virtually unseen by mainstream audiences. It was also passed by indie audiences because it came at the end of the tidal wave of way-too-quirky indie films, that were released in the years following Napoleon Dynamite. And yes, I was probably laying it on a little thick by declaring it the “best indie romantic comedy of all time”, but to be honest, few true indie romantic comedies exist, and this is my favorite.

Peter: 100% behind you on this one, extremely overlooked ‘gem’… I thought it would of gotten more hype considering the hilarious performance from Jermaine Clement (’Flight of the Conchords’)

Congrats!
It’s kinda odd that you posted this today because I was looking at the cover of my Hostel II DVD earlier and saw your quote that I’d never noticed before.

Peter, what happened to the thing on the right side that showed all of the most recent stories? It used to be right above the list of contributors. It was pretty handy. How come you got rid of it?

Zap, We had to do an emergency upgrade to our backend last week. That feature will return, in addition to some other new options when we launch our new front end design (expected this month).

I’d have to say that Wristcutters: A Love Story was my favorite indie romantic comedy of all time. I freakin’ love that movie.

I love Conchords and I love Jemaine, so I really need to see this. He seems to be reprising his character from those Outback ads, which is great. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go sing “Albi, the Racist Dragon.”

What would Being John Malkovich, or Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind fall under?
I would consider them indie romantic comedies., and better than this. no?

exposure like this for /film f-ing rocks! but sorry peter, i couldn’t stand this movie :( i don’t respect female characters who are hooked on guys like that. (for real or make-believe)

So far all the examples of indie romantic comedies don’t qualify as mainly “romantic comedies”. For example, Eternal Sunshine is more of a sci-fi love story then a comedy.

While I disagree with the quote on the box Peter, Congratulations are in order. The rise of slashfilm is upon us!

I’d say I mostly agree with the hyperbole and would like to add that the stop motion animation running parallel to the story really sealed the deal for me.

I’m SO over this entire aesthetic. “Twee” I believe is the term. Fuck Twee. And Quirky. And Indie. Ready for something new and original. This dude from New Zealand, while he may be funny, just has too much of a bandwagon thing going on for me to get behind him. A Napolean Dynamite rip-off and a Tenacious D rip-off. All in one year. What will he “borrow” next?
Sorry to rain on the parade.
