Star Wars: The Clone Wars Movie Trailer #2

Star Wars: The Clone Wars Movie Trailer

Warner Bros has released a new trailer for Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The trailer has a darker underlying tone, as the Clone wars were no doubt darker times in the Star Wars Galaxy. And I love some of the imagery, like the wide shot of R2, C3PO and Anikan walking with the duel sunset over the desert (seen above), a call back to A New Hope. Tell me what you think in the comments below!

The official plot synopsis reads: Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Padmé Amidala, are on the front lines of an intergalactic struggle between good and evil, along with brand new heroes like Anakin’s padawan learner, Ahsoka. Sinister villains – led by Palpatine, Count Dooku and General Grievous – are poised to rule the galaxy. Stakes are high, and the fate of the Star Wars universe rests in the hands of the daring Jedi Knights. Their exploits lead to action-packed battles and astonishing new revelations.

You can watch the trailer in High Definition on Yahoo. Star Wars: The Clone Wars will hit theaters on August 15th 2008. The movie leads directly in to this fall’s premiere of a weekly computer-animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series on Cartoon Network.

Stupid flash...worst format for video EVAR.

Much better than the first trailer. Love the darker tone, especially the clone taking a laser point-blank to the stomach! That's the kind of thing I've always wanted to see in a Star Wars movie
  • Tendrillar
    boooooooooooorrrrrriiinnnnngggg.
  • Tendrillar
What's sad is that this prequel shit is the extended universe now. Or rather the beginning of a new and bastardized extended universe that fans will have to deal with and sift through as part of what is now Star Wars to the collective fan base.

I'm so tired of clone wars and clone armies and battle droids. None of this is Star Wars to me, it's poppycock is what it is.
  • Everstranger
The CGI Anakin can show more emotions than Hayden Whateverhisnamewas in live action. Lucas should have shot the whole prequel trilogy in CGI...
  • Nathan
Looks great. I agree Kapit the darker tone suits the film very well. Does anyone know who is doing the voice for Anakin? It seems a lot less winy than Hayden Christensen (thank god).
  • Robert
I'm over it. I already know how things turn out. Ewoks dancing. It was great when I was kid and I feel extra fortunate that it was the original trilogy and not the newer films that I grew up on. Doesn't do much for me now.

Does WB own Star Wars now?
  • Daniel
Looks gorgeous, but there gonna have a bit of a problem building up tension during those the lightsaber fights...
  • Klinger
Man, I wish I could say I look forward to this but... but... it's so difficult.

I agree wtih Daniel 'cause we already know (in this movie) Obi doesn't die, Anakin doesn't die, Dooku doesn't die, Asajj doesn't die... it's just a whole buncha nameless robots and troopers who are going to eat it.

The fight scenes will be nifty but it there's no reason to worry about the main cast then there's really no emotion tied to picture.

...btw I'm taking that with Dooku being in the film, the official timeline places this one between Eps 2 and 3?
  • Jerry Butler
    what makes you say that?
  • Scott
    ANSWERS:

Anakin in the film is voiced by actor Matt Lanter. (He played the date-rapist that Claire nearly kills in the first season of "Heroes.")

And, no, of course Warner Bros. doesn't own "Star Wars" now. WB is just releasing this particular movie. We all know that there's one man who owns "Star Wars."
  • Captain Awesome
    hahahaha
  • Happy_Evil_Dude
Pretty f-ing awesome is what I say
  • greycolumbus
Warner Bros. is distributing the film because of the planned Cartoon Network series.
  • Troy
Too bad the attack of the clones wasnt that dark..
  • Reason
    Meh.
  • Jamie Jay
it's not *really* going to be that dark.

after all, it is a prequel (dear god here we go) to the cartoon series, anyhow.
  • krackajap
Am I the only one who misses the old samurai style lightsaber duels?
  • Identitytheft
I'm a huge SW fan but I have zero interest in this. First of all, if you're gonna pick some period to explore further, don't make it the tired Clone Wars.

Also, this just isn't a true Star Wars film to me in the same way I don't consider the books with sex and gambling and stuff part of Star Wars canon considering things like that never happen in the actual movies.

The worst part of all this is the crappy voice acting they're settling for, particularly Yoda. It's like they pulled some 14-year-old geek out of a convention and said "do your best Yoda."

    Aint gonna fly
  • Pete
What's cool is they got Samuel Jackson to do the VO for Mace Windu. Too bad they couldn't bring Christopher Lee back to voice Dooku. I'm really surprised that they didn't bring in Ian Mcdiarmid. But at least Anthony Daniels is back! I know the Clone wars is overkill at this point, but fans will enjoy it.

How long is this series going to suck the tit of George Lucas? Star Wars died at Episode 1.
  • First: it's not "extended universe", it's "expanded universe". And nothing that George works on, himself (beyond a "characters" credit), qualifies as "expanded universe". Thus, this film and the Tartakovsky series are not "EU", they are part of the official Star Wars canon. All the other stuff (novels, comics, whatever) is just stuff added on by other people whom aren't George Lucas. He approves all of them, in broad strokes, but there's a reason none of the EU books or anything ever touch on anything remotely significant.

Secondly: the reason that so much attention is being paid to this era of Star Wars (between CLONES and SITH) is because it is essentially the fulcrum of the entire saga. The Republic would not have fallen, the Empire would not have risen, and Anakin wouldn't have become Darth Vader without the Clone Wars and -- according to George and most fans -- showing us 20 minutes at the end of CLONES and 30 minutes throughout SITH was not enough to encapsulate what is essentially the ultimate "Star War".

Complaining about this being "overkill" is like saying humans need to stop making World War II films. There are hundreds of thousands of stories throughout both conflicts and I personally want to see as many of them fleshed out as possible.
  • caats
looks good. and by the way, this isn't "extended universe". i think anything that comes from George is in the same world as the movies.
  • albert brodsky
Since there is already so much discrepancy between the new movies and the originals, why not just redo them all in animation? I didn't think this looked so bad and I grew up with the originals. At least Ewoks might finally be able to use their legs in CGI.

I'd much rather see the adventures of Darth Vader between Revenge and New Hope. I'd like to see him mow through any remaining Jedi that might have survived in order to get to Obi Wan. I never saw Mace Windu's body, and I've seen some shitty effects where certain Jedi sky dived landing on specifically targeted flying convertibles, so that suckas still alive, he's just a little short handed.
  • jfive
Eh this looks kind of cool but the Clone Wars movie left such a bad taste in my mouth maybe this will make up for it. What i wouldnt mind seeing is the gap between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope where Darth Vader hunts down all the jedis.
  • Joe
    Ugly, ugly, UGLY character designs.

I'm not saying it has to be beautiful, but compared to the recent A-grade CGI films (Horton, Kung fu Panda, Wall-E), this one belongs solely in the "Do Not Want" file (along with Space Chimps and Fly Me To The Moon)
  • 790
Looks great if your 10 years old.

I'm like 40, so it looks like total crap.
  • Joe
(I potentially take that back about Fly Me To The Moon- at least that one's breaking ground in 3D tech)

Comparing World War II to the Clone Wars. Nice, except one of them was a real war with real stories to tell to honor the real heroes who fought, while the other is all in one man's head.
  • SUe
Is there still going to be a live action Star Wars show or was that Lucas just talking out of his ass?
  • 790
    I'd love to see a Star Wars 7, 8 and 9!!
But I'm sure Lucas can't take the stress and the fans anymore. I'm thinking this will be the last of the Star Wars films.
Until he remasters this one in 4D of course.
  • boisvertfj
Oh yes. I will be seeing this movie and watching the show. It looks amazing, and lots of fighting!
  • Cassie
I dunno, it doesn't thrill me. The story could be great, hard to tell from the trailer. I'm not "over" the Clone Wars, I'm usually game for any back story. But the animation is very unimpressive. I prefer the original Clone Wars cartoons, personally, but since they've chosen 3D they're up against everything Pixar and Dreamworks can dish out, and it's all FAR superior to this. And the character design screams "video game" to me.
  • Ryan
George Lucas created something special with SW 4,5,6 but then he went the other way around and made 1,2,3 all cged throw together shit .
He then turns to Indiana jones and makes it shit...

"The CGI Anakin can show more emotions than Hayden Whateverhisnamewas in live action. Lucas should have shot the whole prequel trilogy in CGI…" - Everstranger

...wait, you mean he didn't? There's no difference between this and the prequel trilogy itself, both versions are sub-par computer animations. The impracticality of so much CG use in Revenge of the Sith was astounding to me. I remember specifically a scene where Obi-Wan spoke to a group of clone troopers who all had real heads but CGI bodies. Why not just get a guy in a suit?

Don't have high hopes for this one given the track record of recent Star Wars stuff, although I did greatly enjoy the cartoon series (in which General Grievous kicked ass ...leading to my disappointment at ROTS) and I am looking forward to that new videogame...
  • Albert Brodsky
It looks like Dooku was drawn by one of those carnival artists that do really over-exaggerated and often unflattering sketches of people for $15 a pop. Could they have stretched his head any more?

They should redo A New Hope like this. Maybe then the lightsaber battle between Ben and Darth won't look so ridiculous compared to the new crap-fests Lucas pulled out of his butt. Maybe they could get a new voice actor to redo Mark Hamill's lines so Luke doesn't sound like such a whiny bitch.

The great thing about Vader was that whenever he was on screen, the audience was mesmerized. He had such a presence and he truly scared me as a kid. Every villain since then has been a complete throw-away meant to sell action figures. How do you kill a villain like Darth Maul before he's even been given a back story of any kind? That guy looked menacing and could have been a great Vader predecessor, but instead they killed him before we even were able to care, just like Dooku, and just like Greivous. And now we have another one, some bald chick. Lame, Lame, Lame. F-you Lucas. Go back to Writing 101 you hack.

    YES! momentary smoking!!!
  • I'm going opening night and I'm gonna bring my Helmet.
  • Andy
I am a die hard Star Wars fan, and i will certainly see this, but it does lokk kinda cheez-ee and i dont care for the animation, but i will get used to it.
The story is basically about anakin and his new aprentice Ashoka...HE DOESNT NEED ONE..the clone wars were already packed enough with all the EU (expanded uuniverse) clone wars material..
and u would think that anakin and obi would be on loooonnnnnnggg stress leave after the lst year of the clone wars after all the stuff they been doing.....they certainly have had a reaallyy packed scedule during the clone wars.

and mace widu is still alive..hopefully.
  • Andy
And my hope that mace windu survived his battle with the emperor in ep.3 right now is seen as pure bull because official lore states that hes a goner.......EU has been Know to bring back character form the dead many times.
  • Daniel
Ive been a starwars fan since I was 5, 22 years now. I am looking forward to this, I dont see how people can slander something before even seeing it. I wasnt a great fan of episode 1, I liked episode 2 and loved episode 3. I agree that other areas of the star wars time line could be explored as the clonewars stuff is beiong a little over done. To those so called fans that say the expanded universe isnt real starwars and nothing major happens in it that matters you are wrong. Since the early 90,s the expanded universe has been regulated to maintain its chronology and consitancymajor events happen major characters come and go. Its all agreed and cross referanced by Lucas film. You cant simply write a book in the starwars universe with the major players and it will get signed off by lucas film it doesnt work that way you have to do researched it has to fit. This movie however as pointed out is not expanded universe Lucas himself has had major input on the plot. Even if it was expanded universe it would still be starwars as all the expanded universe is starwars.

AWWW THIS TRAILER GIVES ME A BONER! I LOVE STAR WARS
  • Brooke
you all whine, like ohh yeah this is gunna be so bad and balblabla.
then why do you bother commenting?
seriously, and you bag people on their acting, could you do better, no. so go have a cry about it.
all you have seen is the trailer so you cant say it is good or bad.
  • Brooke
PS. George Lucas made Star Wars so you cant call him a bad wirter or whatever if you like star wars. He has made a pheomenon and you people bag it because its so huge you just want your voice to be heard by bagging people. Get a life!
  • 790
Brooke, public opinion is not allways a pretty sight. And for the last time, "nothing will stop me from judging a movie by its trailer".

Brooke,,,,,,,if you think this is bad, check out some sites that are talking about the war and Iran's nuclear program.
Hate, is alive and well over there.
  • Brooke
well people put so much effort into making these movies and all people do is bag the crap out of them. how the heck is that fair?
there is a difference between stating your opionon and whining.
  • 790
Some people (790) bag the crap out of movies because they want to MOTIVATE the movie makers into making better movies and or using better actors.

They read these sites and I know it.
They should take it in a constructive way and make better movies. (Dean Develin am looking at you).

    Its nothing personal..........movie makers.
Dean you can bag on my grammer anytime.

790, whinning for a better tomarrow!
  • Legato
I keep seeing the same ad where the girl claims shes not to young to train yet in Ep1 they say Anakin is to old to train. Someone didn't research past movies to well.
