The Wackness Official Movie Trailer

The Wackness

Sony Pictures Classics has released a new trailer for one of my favorite films of the year - The Wackness. They’re calling it the “official trailer”, and I actually like it much more than the the previously released teasers. It plays equal attention the relationships between Peck, Thirlby, and Kingsley, the 1990’s nostalgia, and the incredible soundtrack. I could have done without the Mary-Kate Olsen button at the end, but I understand she might be a selling point.

Hunter points out that they probably should have played up some of the great critical reaction the film has gotten on the festival circuit. But at the same time I can understand that the target audience might not care about quotes from movie critics. I’m still waiting for the inevitable red band trailer. As I’ve said before, this film is a tough film to sell. Director Jonathan Levine told me that SPC was planning on doing a lot of word of mouth screenings to raise awareness. I think the best thing they could do is pack a theater with people and show them the film, as they will surely recommend it to ten of their friends.

Watch the trailer in High Definition on Yahoo. The Wackness hits theaters on July 3rd 2008.

I'm at work right now and my boss is right behind me, threatening to punch me in the face. I really want to watch this trailer right now, but i can't. I can't wait to see this movie.
  • orange cinema
dammmmn ive been dying to see this!!!!!!!!!
  • Tendrillar
Okay, just watched it, now I really can't wait. Now, if my boss would stop threatening me, I could get on with my day.

1994?? Hmmm. Should be kinda funny. Isn't that the kid from Drake and Josh though??? Better pack the cheese whiz.
  • Chimaera
That is the kid from Drake and Josh. He was also in Drilbit Taylor. It looks interesting enough but this is the first I've heard of it so I see what you mean about the publicity.
  • Had me feeling kinda meh. But it's very possible that was entirely due to the Will Smith soundtrack. I know it hit the time right, but couldn't Award Tour or Ego Trippin' Part 2 have worked better?
  • Bob
this looks awesome. i can't wait to see this
  • theanner
I am completely lost on how anyone can be excited for this... What makes it special? I don't think this is my kind of movie anyway.

Whats the name of the song that starts playing at 0:56?
  • Not Billy Mitchell
"Summertime" Fresh Prince and the DJ Jazzy Jeff

    @ Dave

    what !?
That's classic material: Just a friend - Biz Markie

Ok I can get with this movie.
  • I haven't been this excited to see a Mary Kate Olsen movie since Billboard Dad.

I really want to see this movie. It takes place in 1994 in NYC and 94 was just one of those years where everything seemed fresh again. The feeling would last for five years until 1999 and I think it's gonna hit a lot of nostalgic notes.

    Plus... Ben Kingsley
  • Nick Boyd
Looks good. I love the Biz Markie and Olivia Thirbley.
  • Captain Awesome
This looks good. I initially stayed away from it due to Peter gushing all over it like Wall-E's girlfriend. But I decided to risk it and watch this trailer. Bonus points for blowing into the gold Zelda cartridge.

    Excellent soundtrack too.

Can't wait for this movie! I love this trailer!
  • trust me
i've seen the movie and i promise it's definitely a lot better than all the past teasers make it look. Ben Kingsley is amazing in the movie. if you have doubts about how good this movie is, trust me it is worth spending the $10 on. one of the better movies ive seen all year.

being 16 its pretty weird thinking that a film set in your elementary school days is considered "nostalgic" or "period". Huh.

“Summertime” Fresh Prince and the DJ Jazzy Jeff

    Jeebus I freakin old......

It's weird that I don't really care for this movie, even though I love nostalgia trip.
  • Robert
I keep having flashbacks to "Kids" and that ain't a good thing. It could be better than this trailer is letting on though. I also hope all the 90s references aren't as forced as they seem by the trailer as well.
  • Right now is the first time i've had any interest to see this movie. It does remind me of 'Kids' but only cause of the time frame, age group, and location. 'Kids' was good, but this doesn't look anything like 'Kids'. I'll have to rent it when it comes out.
  • kfizz
If you are wondering what he real job is? He is selling drugs that is how kingsly finds him. Thats why he is kinda a space case and kinda gone.
  • Robert
    @Frank

I agree Kids was good. Maybe too good, in that it made me want to take a flamethrower to that neighborhood...or at least not watch the movie ever again. It's in that strange category. I think it is just this dude's accent and the way he carries himself, which is pretty authentic.
  • dave
    Steelo thanks man.
  • Ren
I've been wanting to see this movie for a really long time. I wish this movie could more like marketing.
