Transformers 2 screenwriter Roberto Orci has made an interesting comment on Don Murphy’s message board:
“I’d love and think we could almost barely manage ten on each side, with some front and center and others as more supporting.”
Translation: There will be almost 20 Transforming Robots in disguise in the upcoming Michael Bay sequel!
Despite reassuring comments from Bay himself, fans have been worried that the sequel would be more human focused than the original. But I’m not quite sure packing the film with 20 Transformers is a step in the right direction. The biggest fan criticism of the first film was that not enough time was spent with the Transformers as personalities. And now with almost 20 of them on the big screen, alongside the bevy of human characters, who knows if the sequel will be any different. On the other hand, this could mean more big robot action sequences, which is always cool.
Also this just in… /Film Reader Jason X sent this in [SPOILER WARNING]:
“My girlfriend works at Eastern State Penitentiary in the Fairmount area of Philadelphia. It was used as a prison from 1829 until 1971, and is now a historical site and museum. Anyway, at the prison today producers for Transformers 2 were on site with scale models of Megatron, Optimus Prime and Star Scream and were scouting filming locations in cell block 1 and the prison kitchen. Just thought I’d let people know that filming should begin here soon.”
So looks like we can expect a big giant robot jailbreak.

meh

i just don’t see how you can out-do transformers…that’s about as much bayhem as any film can handle isn’t it? ‘more big robot action sequences’?!

Just give me tranforming robots warring against each other and I’m good. I also knew Jazz would be back, he was tool cool to kill off for good.
I’d like to see the Robotech rip-off “Skyfire” in this at some point. So he and Starscream can have an awesome dogfight. Starscream transformsing in mid-air and taking out those other Raptors was one of the coolest things I saw in a film in a while.
The first film definitely had some great action scenes, I just wanted more battles, like the freeway chase and the fight between Optimus and Megatron.

As long as I can tell who is fighting then I will be happy, My only problem with the 1st was that there were times when I had no idea who was fighting who.

Didnt we learn all we needed to know in the first film? Is a sequel really necessary?
June 2nd, 2008 at 1:12 pm
I’m in a wheel chair,
I learned that we needed more robot ass-kicking. Which is why I look forward to the sequel.
June 2nd, 2008 at 1:20 pm
for those who say ‘well thats all i want, giant robots fighting bla bla’… really? the only thing the movies got going for it is the spectacle of big robots fighting and we’ve seen it now. why do you need more? the movie wont be anything special.

@ Fanboy D
“Bayhem.”
You win.

@capt. Awesome.
Get ready to be disappointed.

I’m in a wheel chair,
People said the same thing about the first film, but I liked it. It was a good action movie. I just wanted “more” action.

I really just want to see an all-out war between the Cybertronians. The budget is bigger, they can throw in more effects; why not just go all-out and do the battle royale everyone is waiting to see?
June 3rd, 2008 at 3:39 am
Kapit,
Probably saving that for the third film. Wasn’t this signed for 3 films?
I assume Earth will see a much bigger battle in the sequel and in the third maybe a giant Cybertron war?

Bay can’t to “personalities”… or love scenes… or really anything human, which is why Transformers, essentially fighting robots kicking ass, is perfect for him. Yeah, you would like to have more defined characters, but then you wouldn’t have the “bayhem” (awesome word, fanboy d) because Bay wouldn’t be there. The less this movie, with Bay at the helm, tries to “emote”; the better.
@I’m in a wheelchair
When is a sequel “necessary”? This sequel has as good a reason to be as any other.

I assure you, 100%, that Jason X is a worm who is feeding false information.
There is no prison break scene nor has anyone on the set or involved in the production EVER been to a prison to scout locations at any time.
Thank You

orci’s quote was from february. read the quote properly. it was only a personal preference w/o budget concerns as bliss81 phrased his question. furthermore, if people read that thread, orci also stated that he will not reveal the number of transformers as it will cause people to wrongly deduce things from the script like slashfilm.com has already started. THE QUOTE WAS FROM FEBRUARY for crying out loud and it wasn’t until several weeks ago had Orci and the other screenwriters submit their script for approval to the producers and relevant stakeholders. a lot could have changed from then.

totally looking forward to the next one… the first was a GREAT action movie as long as you weren’t hoping it to be a retelling of the generation 1 cartoon story (which i wasn’t)
can’t wait to see what story they come up with next!
