We’ve kept quiet about Twilight for a couple weeks, but this demands a posting. MTV has premiered the first completed scene from the finished film. This scene is everything I feared/expected this movie would be. There is not a moment where the vampires don’t look like they are being swung around the set on wires. And the sound effects that come with these movements don’t help at all. It comes off looking like a little higher budget version of those old WB shows.
You can watch the clip in High Definition on MTV.
Discuss: What do you guys think?

oh my.
this looks like a low budget tv show from the 90s
i would say more but peter is quite heavyhanded with the ban hammer lately

Looks like crap.

no defense, utter garbage that was. Exactly like old Buffy/Angel footage that without great writing (seldom at that) was also shit. The prosecution rests.
C’mon little children, step up to the podium and make a salient argument. Looking forward to it.

the Twilight Mom’s might get to this, but, fuck the book, man - that’s not what /film is for. You’re about movies.
This movie is going to blow some major A S S. I mean, just look at it.
It’s what I’ve been saying all along.

Damn my being Canadian! I can’t watch it >_

I was really looking forward to the scene shown for tonight
and I have to say I’m a little let down. I figured it would be one of the final scenes of the movie because that is what they filmed first.
Had I had any say I wouldn’t have put the vamps on wires
I would have simply had them move fast like I’ve seen it in my
head when I’ve read the book.
In any case they have changed things, which is not big deal,
aside from the fact they certainly don’t seem to beating up Bella
like they should be….whatever…if the fight scene in the dance
studio is really going to be that short before Edward shows up then
count me bummed.
The acting was fine, Bella looks scared, James looks mean, and Edward looks tortured.
If this is really a finished scene then the movie will be that of a
B status, but for myself, that is not a bad thing because I love
B movies. However, I had expected a little better quality.

LoL, I saw this during the pre-show and the big banners covered half the screen and now it has no sound (not that it matters). Actually, not hearing the dialog added a little something imo…Seems like even the Twilight gods couldn’t be bothered :P I wanted to see him beat the crap out of her. Is it PG? Better things to see but it’ll probably still make money I bet.

Yippie! I finally got to see it! *does her happy dance*
Argh, it was so damn cheap looking. To be honest I almost laughed when the one guy did the little jump thingy with his arms up. OMG he’s a shaolin monk now! The wire work was so bad that you could deffiently tell the director did not have any experience with fight/action scenes. The production values seem to be on par with a episode of Supernatural. Considering the budget of the movie though I shouldn’t be too suprised by this.
Why did they go with a action scene for this? I think it was a very bad choice on their behalf. Obviously this should not be marketed as a action movie but that’s exactly what they’re doing. For me all the potential for this film has been destroyed. They should be advertising it as a romance movie with a bit of action to spice things up. Then nobody would expect phenomenal fight scenes and be happy with focusing on the romance/relationship aspects.
@Chimaera
According to statements made by Stephanie Myer the rating for this film will not be above PG 13 (if that at all). It was a clause written into the contract due to Myers strong beliefs on violence/sex.

should i laugh now or later?
June 2nd, 2008 at 8:58 am
@duca and Chimera
The movie wouldn’t need to be anything more than a PG-13 there
isn’t any content that would make it an R rating.
The scene in the dance studio really is the only action in the book, so yeah, marketing with a fight scene will let down those looking for an action movie. IF they actually do follow the book Bella gets
seriously beat up, but it doesn’t appear as if they are, which makes me sad.
I’m still hoping for something to wow me a bit more
before Dec, but as of right now there is no reason to expect too
much for this film.

@ Duca
You’re totally right about the marketing. I was wondering why they would go with that scene when it is so obvious that all the Twilighters would have preferred a more Edward/Bella romance sneek peek…I’m sure they were trying to pull in a broader audience.
@ Meli
It doesn’t matter how many ways you look at it this movie it isn’t anywhere near the ballpark as far as story or action to merit R-rating. I just mentioned PG because that was a sorry excuse for a fight scene but b/c of said fight scene it couldn’t be G-rated, lol. Expectation fell short but then again that wasn’t the whole scene and maybe, just maybe, they’ll edit it and fix some of the obvious no, nos that make this more t.v versus movie quality.

i want to watch it, but im at work, and frankly, it sounds like it isnt worth getting my ass chewed out. when i do see it, you can expect an honest, totally unbiased opinion from me, im not going to bash it unless it deserves to be bashed. and if we dont get at least 100 comments on this in the next few days, i will hunt down those twilighters at their home blogs and let them know what i think.
June 2nd, 2008 at 10:45 am
I swear, it looks like Buffy.
June 2nd, 2008 at 11:17 am
LOL! big daddy…you crack me up. I’ll look forward to your
bashing. :P
June 2nd, 2008 at 12:55 pm
Disappointing for me because: 1. It’s too short. 2. it was too dark on my TV yesterday…but it looks a lot better online; 3. yeah, the flying vampires are a little annoying
Meli and Chimeara: I’m pretty sure that Bella will get more bashing in the rest of that sequence.
Honestly, the special effects aspect of this movie is one of the things I was the most worried about. I thought the story had a bunch of great opportunities for some good action and I was worried when Hardwicke took up the film for that reason. What I have seen so far hasn’t been THAT bad…maybe I just don’t have the obvious EXPERTISE in special effects critique of the posters above me.
Whatever, I’m still very excited for the film…can’t help it.

*criqutes chirping* Seriously! This is no fun at all…
June 10th, 2008 at 5:49 am
Only 19 comments?
June 10th, 2008 at 8:53 am
LoL! Looks like all the people you loved to annoy decided not
to venture back.
July 2nd, 2008 at 12:13 pm
Unfortunately enough, my computer is a load of crap, so I cannot watch the actual clip.
However, based on the comments I’ve read, it’s either going to be okay, bad, or all of you are just really critical (which I doubt).
I loved the books; they are no doubt one of my favorite series (a tie with HARRY POTTER!), but I’m not sure how they are going to adapt it… correctly?… for the big screen. I think the imagery used in the books would be extremely hard to portray in a second rate movie, like this one apparently will be.
I really hate Paramount right now. I really, really, really hate it.

I think I’ll save my opinion of the movie until I actually get to watch it.
I will say this though,so far it looks awesome and I can’t wait till it comes out!
July 10th, 2008 at 5:08 pm
this so cool but i’m not sure i’m getting all the information i want
July 15th, 2008 at 9:43 pm
OMG ppl that think that this scene or wutever is bad idk wuts wrong wit u put ur head on right. i LOVE the books i can’t wait for BREAKING DAWN and i can’t wait for twilight the movie either!!:) (YAY) Ya i would have liked more information on the scene cause they leave u hangin wonderin if the movie is gonna be like the book. But thats the whole point u don’t want to spoil it. The ppl that are doin this movie it doesn’t matter if they didn’t have a lot of money to make the movie but hey at least they’re tryin to bring the book to life. So good job ppl that are in the movie and the ppl that helped make it… I can’t wait to see how it turns out on the screen and see how good it is and how hard they worked on it GOOD LUCK on wut the ppl think about the movie but all i now is that im happy they made it in a movie and no matter how the movie turns out i will LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
July 18th, 2008 at 8:11 am
It wasn’t very good… so sad. But I do not think this is the full clip. I think they cut around to find SOMETHING anything to put on MTV. And that makes me sad because the built in fans don’t need to see half finished scenes to go see it in the theaters…. and people who didn’t know what to think of it will definitely be turned off by the movie with this scene. I wish they had waited and picked something more exciting to show when it was READY.
July 20th, 2008 at 4:46 pm
All I have to say is I hope it looks better in the real movie. I am really looking forward to the movie and I hope the rest is better than this!!
July 27th, 2008 at 5:17 pm
Yeah. I think i was cringing all throughout the clip. I’m extremely excited for Twilight, but the action sequence in this fight scene scares me a little. It reminds me of the really stupid flying scenes in Interview With a Vampire movie. Hopefully this was not a completed scene and they’ll continue to edit. However, on a positive note, I think Kristen does a great job acting.
