Columbia Pictures has released a new red band movie trailer for Adam McKay’s new comedy Step Brothers. Will Ferrell and John C Reilly star as two spoiled guys become competitive stepbrothers after their single parents get hitched. While I’m usually a huge advocate of red band movie trailers (my argument is that they usually represent more accurate marketing), I don’t believe this new advertisement offers much more than a couple of swears. But it does have a few good moments not shown in the previous trailer most of which I’m pretty sure didn’t require the red band header. The bunk bed scene still makes me chuckle out loud, even though it’s clearly derivative. Tell me what you think in the comments below!

That was actually pretty funny.

still not convinced, but its an improvement over the other preview

Looks pretty bad, in my opinion…made me chuckle in a few places, but not nearly as much as say, the Pineapple Express red band trailer

I can’t wait for this to come on TV!
May 27th, 2008 at 7:48 pm
No.
Semi-Pro was lame, this will suck too.

All it needs is Ben Stiller to complete this trifecta of hilarity.

Eh I am artsy as all get out, but I will go and watch this and laugh and laugh. Then when me and my friends go out for a drink we will quote it. Then people from across the bar will quote things back to us and we will make new friends with other cool LA bar people. Thank you Movies.

I really think this movie looks like shit. People will go in hoping for the best and come out dissapointed yet again. I thought semi pro might have been good, but was wrong. I wasn’t at all enticed by this trailer, but hey I could be wrong again.

Wow looks good.
As always will ferrell is stupidly entertaining.

i actually was more impressed with the other one, but i liked the new tuxedo remark from the interviewer

We all knew Semi-Pro was going to suck. This is sheer brilliance.

This looks slightly better than the last preview, but nothing like Pineapple Express.
I’m afraid that comedies are going for the “SuperBad” approach by winning over fans simply by dropping F-Bombs every 20 seconds. SuperBad was outstanding. But I wish comedies would just stick to comedy and use profanity only when necessary. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a hardcore Christian or anything, I swear all the time. But it looks like in this preview they were trying too hard and it was just unnecessary in some scenes.

While I’m sure this movie will probably bomb big time, John C Reilly kills in this trailer. I love him as an actor but always thought he was out of place in the fratpack movies. If I have enough time/weed I’ll probably give this one a go.

good lord, mary steenburgen looks hot as hell. i’ll watch it for her.

is it the new studio marketing strategy to show the whole film now before its released, iron man, hulk and now this piace of decroted crap i’ve forgotten already. and what the hell is with clara clayton - work done? she looks more ghastly than nicole kidman

The end of that trailer really turned around and kicked ass! Maybe it was helped by LCDS or something.

I enjoy movies like Kip does.

I’ve been thoroughly unimpressed with Will Ferrell, aside from some of the Funny or Die skits, here as of late.

this looks better than i thought. as old as the ferrell style of humor is getting, he’s doing it really well here.

I love Gillian Vigman. I think she is funnier than Judd Apatow’s hack wife. I laughed my ass off when John C Reilly peaked his head around Will in the interview. Worst case, DVD rental.

If this had been constructed as BIG 2 - with some magical reason two tween boys became MEN overnight, then it would have worked perfectly–

“This house is a prison…on planet bullshit…in the galaxy this sucks big camel dick!”
How could you not want to see that played out on the big screen?

Bunch of naysaying naysayers here. That looked hilarious, and that is my criteria for going to comedies. At least admit it has more potential than Semi-Pro (which still had some great scenes IMO). Or don’t, I don’t care.

this movie is going to rock out loud, some people need to not take things so seriously. it’s obviously not going to be a great movie. but it’ll make you laugh out loud and that’s why you go to comedies.
