One of my favorite films of 2007 was never released. You see, The Go-Getter premiered at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival up against Son of Rambow, and most of the big movie buyers missed it. But finally Peach Arch Entertainment will be releasing the movie in limited theaters on June 6th 2008. Check out the film’s official movie trailer below, and tell me what you think in the comments.
Martin Hynes, best known for his role as George Lucas in George Lucas in Love, directed a wonderful coming of age road trip story featuring Lou Taylor Pucci as a young man who steals a car and sets off on a journey to connect with his brother after the traumatic loss of their mother. But this is really a story about a telephonic relationship Mercer develops with the “forgiving and mysterious girl owner of the stolen car (played by the wonderful Zooey Deschanel). Jena Malone also stars.
Using a mix of fantastic yet experimental cinematography, a great soundtrack featuring M. Ward, Elliott Smith and The Replacements, The Go-Getter is Garden State meets Into The Wild. Like Garden State, this film is very generational in appeal, and will likely find a big audience later on DVD. It’s really too bad that Peach Arch won’t open this in more theaters, as it is the type of film, like Garden State, to have huge break-out appeal with the niche generational audience for which it aims.
Discuss: What do you think of the movie trailer for The Go-Getter?

Cool !
thanks Peter… I’ve been wanting to check this out since you first posted about it during sundance.
trailer actually made me laugh a few times…
I doubt it’ll play anywhere near where I live… But I will help it live on in DVD sales.

This looks like it has potential. These are the kind of
movies that are typically better than the big so-called
blockbusters that come out.

looks absolutely indie, i love it! plus zooey’s getting to the point where i’ll see anything she does, she’s like our generations version of parker posey. Lou Pucci is a great indie face as well.

Love it! I really hope it opens somewhere around here or back home, which it might since we do have theaters that cater to indie flicks. Either way I’m sure I’ll end up seeing it one way or another. Thanks for the heads up!

Looks like it’s an indie that’s too cute for its own good….like Garden State. Shoe gaze, shoe gaze, indie music montage…shoe gaze, shoe gaze…there’s a formula here just like everything else. It’s no more true-to-life than a Michael Bay film.
I’ll see it, but just cause it’s indie don’t mean it’s good.

how does one have a “great indie face”?

Glad to hear some news on this. Been waiting to see it for a while, Lou Taylor Pucci is really good and everyone has to love Zooey Deschanel. Gonna have to wait a while to see it in the UK. DVD import me-thinks.

looks great!

I think it’s right up my alley. Jenna Malone wasn’t pulling anything good on the acting tip for this film. But, Zooey is great as usual (too bad she will suck in The Happening…not her fault)
