Leonardo DiCaprio as the Real James Bond?

Leonardo DiCaprio and Ian Flemming

Leonardo DiCaprio’s company Appian Way bought the rights to make Fleming, a film based on the life of British author Ian Fleming, best known as the creator of James Bond. The story follows Fleming, who fought as a Commander of Naval Intelligence in World War II while creating James Bond and the many characters from his books. Apparently most of the characters in Bond are actually based on areal people Fleming encountered. Writer Damian Stevenson describes the film as “Shakespeare in Love or Finding Neverland with some real-life Bond-like espionage and female flattery thrown in.”

And while it has not been stated that DiCaprio would play Fleming, most insiders assume that Appian Way is developing the project as a starring vehicle for DiCaprio. I could definitely see DiCaprio playing the British author, but will he ever find time? IMDb lists seven projects on the actor’s development table.

Discuss: What do you think of  DiCaprio as the real James Bond?

DiCaprio is great because he envelopes himself into the characters he portrays really well.

He was my favorite character in The Departed.

I guess he'd be ok... He does a decent job with all of his roles. Personally, I'd be happy with a well made documentary of the subject.
I'm getting kinda tired of Bio-pics, remakes and sequels. They seem to fall in the same category as a " safe" film. Ease studio exec's fears by pointing out that at the very least, the film has a built in audience that will see it, so it won't completely tank.

I'm not sure if he can pull of a genuine british accent through the entire movie. But, that doesn't mean he wouldn't do a great job in the role. In my opinion, The Aviator was great because of him. "Llama's? Like Tony Llamas?"

    Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...
  • Jerry to the Biggy Butler
LD as Howard Hughes was like watching a kid play dress. i have no doubt this will be any different.

Not that DiCaprio wouldn't do a good job in the role, but the real Ian Fleming looks a lot like Geoffrey Rush.
  • Floppy
I'm more interested in his Akira projects.

i think he'll be good in anything he does because of his dedication to a role. i think the flemming film will be unexpectedly fun. as far as the accent goes, it'll be a world easier than the south african dialect he pulled off brilliantly in blood diamond.

Leo is a good actor only when he faces the mirror in his bathroom... infront of a camera he sucks... i really don't understand why hollywood followers love him... and even a wrost choice to have him portray Ian Flemming...

Can I apply to be the spellchecker for /Film.. seems like the spelling mistakes have come with greater frequency as of late.
  • Chris
I could see this film being great in the Shakespeare in Love sort of vein. Lots of bond references and "inspirations". Could be a lot of fun.
  • Quenfis
    Freddie, are you for areal?
  • Andres
for me, DiCaprio is very underrated actor (at least in the company of my friends)...At first I thought he was just a "babyface", but working with Scorsese seems right thing to him. I'm up for Fleming!!

    "starring vehicle for DiCaprio"

This site gets worse every day.

He's the only reason I would see the movie.

What we have here is another good (factual) story being w@nkerized by hollywood. about LD playing Fleming, I find him kind of wooden and on autopilot. I'd watch it with Matt Damon as Ian Fleming, I liked Leo in the movie where he was a swindler
