When character descriptions, released last week, for Clint Eastwood’s Gran Torino confirmed that the film wasn’t Dirty Harry 6, a lot of sites joshed that fans like you and me were out of our gluttonous minds for even desiring a sequel. Sure, the rumored return of Harry Callahan was supported by an infamously cool and extremely random tip AICN received, but to Slashfilm, a number six still made and makes perfect sense. The fact that the studio and Eastwood were mum on such a widespread rumor remains curious.
Well, today, another rumor has started via The Sun regarding Dirty Harry 6, and this time, Dirty Harry is said to go out in a blaze of 70-year-old badass glory. An insider tells the gossipy paper that…
“Clint will make sure Dirty Harry goes out in style.”
It’s also said that Clint Eastwood’s ex-cop won’t live to see the end of the movie or to see Florida’s shuffleboard pastures. Who could take out Dirty Harry? Something to chew on alongside your Quiznos today. Of course, this new rumor could also be bunk, but people must be really frickin’ bored to kick around absolute nonsense about a 77-year-old action hero. More on Dirty Harry 6 as it develops.
Discuss: How should Dirty Harry die? Should he die?

hmm, ‘that line ‘go out in style’ is always a toughie, because whaty defines style for one of our greatest badasses? killing 200 baddies along with himslef in a self sacrificing explosion/shootout? or is it a quiet, slipping into the last years of my life moment ala the end of unforgiven?
for me, harry’s always gotta be the last man standing. bodies at his feet, buildings on fire, sirens blaring as they approach. and harry callahan tucks his gun into its holster, and walks away from all of it, unshaken, unchanged.

He can’t die. They should have never made any past the first one.
Forget it and leave it alone.
Unless they can inject some Rambo-style violence…

hey hunter, i got 2 questions. what’s shark? is that ‘jumping the shark’ by doing another dirty harry movie? and also, what is ‘mumblecore’? thanks man.

According to wikipedia: “Mumblecore is an American independent film movement that arose in the early 2000’s. It is primarily characterized by ultra-low budget production (often employing digital video cameras), focus on personal relationships between twenty-somethings, improvised scripts, and non-professional actors. Filmmakers in this genre include Andrew Bujalski, Mark Duplass, Jay Duplass, Aaron Katz and Joe Swanberg.”

Something like Die Hard 4, he ends up shooting himself to save the day… a flesh wound at 50 can be fatal at 70, perhaps?! :)
he does need to die tho, as did John McClane, Rambo & Rocky … it’s the ending that is most respectful in my opinion… it’s like saying, that’s it boys, closing this book .. no more sequels!

Since when is The Sun a credible source for movie news, or any kind of news for that matter? It’s more than likely that some hack Sun journalist picked up on the Gran Torino/Dirty Harry 6 rumours floating around the internets and concocted some fluff piece about Eastwood going out in a blaze of glory.

Isn’t The Sun a tabloid in the UK?

That’s sad. Clint is old himself. Seeing an old dirty harry dying on screen would be like seeing clint coming to terms with death live on screen.. cause it is obviously growing nearer with each film he makes. I know his mom’s old and he’s probably the world’s toughest mother fucker… actualy… i take it all back. Clint Eastwood is basically immortal… he’s too strong willed to ever die. wow i love him. BRING ON DIRTY HARRY 6!!!

Lame. They’re just trying to squeeze every dollar out of it possible, instead of being original and coming up with new ideas. I will not see DH6 in theaters.
May 9th, 2008 at 1:25 am
They’re making a new Dirty Harry film? I guess that was to be expected since they are remaking and making sequels to every movie ever created. Also…Clint is an old man now…He isn’t quite as bad ass as he once was. I bet he dies of old age in DH6 if he dies…

Dirty Harry 6 my foot. I mean really. How reputable is The Sun. Just tabloid fodder for the rumor mill. It won’t be a Dirty Harry 6 movie. Check out Moviehole. The movie revolves around a kid who tries to steal Clint’s character’s prized Gran Torino as part of a gang initiation. The “official” description doesn’t lend much light to Moviehole’s take on it:
“Walt Kowalski is a widower, a grumpy, tough-minded, borderline-hateful, unhappy man who can’t get along with either his kids or his neighbors, a Korean War veteran whose prize possession is a 1972 Gran Torino he keeps in cherry condition. Drawn against his will into the lives of the Hmong family that lives next door to him, Walt grows increasingly fond of Tas and his sister Sue, and takes steps to protect them from the gangs that foul his neighborhood with their strutting presence…”
