The Happening Movie Trailer #2

The Happening Movie Trailer

Last night I posted a new television spot for M. Night Shyamalan’s The Happening, explaining that it was actually an abbreviated version of the new movie trailer which is attached to prints of Iron Man and Made of Honor. Well, now that new movie trailer is online for your enjoyment.

I’m actually quite digging the build up to this paranoia film. However, when I saw this trailer in front of an audience last night, there was a lot of inappropriate laughing from the crowd. So I’m wonder, how many people are actually interested in seeing this flick? Are the mainstream public tired of getting burned by Shyamalan’s later efforts? Does the movie just not look scary at all? Speak up in the comments below.

Mark Wahlberg and Zooey Deschanel star as a couple who goes on the run from an apocalyptic crisis that presents a large-scale threat to humanity. The Happening will hit theaters on Friday June 13th 2008.

  • Saw with iron man last night. Audience and me seemed to generally be interested in this. I would like to go see it and will, as did the people I was sitting within talking distance of. IT looks promising.

That's the best trailer I've seen for this movie.
  • Really hard to judge if this is worth seeing by this trailer. Still seems so-so to me, and doesn't look all that scary.
  • Albert Brodsky
Too bad whatever it is that's killing everybody will end up being some corny aliens that are susceptible to the most abundant resource on the planet.

Even if people lose interest because it is one of Night's pieces of work, I think that Mark Wahlberg being involved will keep doubters still wanting to see this movie...at least that is how I feel...great trailer too!
  • /m
    the plot twist prediction:
in the end, Mark is just dreaming the entire movie
  • AntiHero
Isn't the plot about trees? I read that somewhere a while back,(might have been here) that it was like hypnotic trees or something stupid like that. If that is the twist, then I'd say a lot of people are gonna be pissed.
  • I have to admit to feeling pretty blah about this, not because of Night, or anything else, other than the complete and total lack of a "wow" factor. So far at least all we have to go on is people looking confused, wondering and fearful... that isn't enough. Heck, I get enough of that at work.
  • I'm excited. Never liked any of M. Night's films except Unbreakable(only good superhero movie imo), but this looks good.

I think Shyamalan redeemed himself a bit with Lady in the Water. Yes, I just said that.

It'll be an interesting watch in the very least.

That's a great trailer. I thought the international one was good, but this one's really good. I do think, at least the younger audiences, will probably not check this one out. Scary movies have tended to go the way of Hostel and torture porn for teens nowadays, but I'm psyched about this one.

    @ LOTNorm

I guess we are the only 2 people that enjoyed Lady in the Water.

    @ LOTNorm & alexfromqueens

I'm with you two. I loved Lady in the Water.

Can't wait for the Happening, either. This trailer is much better than the international one.

I can't believe what I'm hearing: there are people who enjoyed Lady in the Water?

Honestly, every M.Night trailer so far has piqued my interest, but this movie makes me feel "meh". I guess you can say it ain't happening for me. Hyuk!

I loved Lady in the Water too. It was actually a great film for what it is, a fantasy film.

Good, bad, or whatever, Shyamalan at least attempts to deliver stories that are original. For that reason alone, I defend what he does in an era of sequels and remakes. One thing that he always does well, is write some memorable scenes that can hold a lot of impact ( the weight lifting scene from Unbreakable, the dinner scene from Signs, etc.).

If people viewed his films from the perspective of family relationships going through extraordinary circumstances, as opposed to "something that is supposed to shock or be scary," I think that his films would be viewed with a little more positive expectation.

Even so, I think Spielberg did well with his take on a societal panic in War of the Worlds - intense situations and high emotion. Even the scene with the river of dead people made those trailers. I'm not seeing this sort of intensity in the Shyamalan trailer. Perhaps, the film is pretty low key, but that is a tough Summer sell.

No matter what, we are likely guaranteed another excellent film score from James Newton Howard. That is always the bonus of a MNS film.

I too liked Lady in the Water. (Why does this feel like an AA group?) :-)

an epidemic of people committing suicide for no apparent reason (at least not in the trailer)? i am very interested to watch this movie.

I saw this with Iron Man, and while the first trailer looked rather interesting, the over-use of dramatic cutting out and "thumping" made...a good portion of the audience actually *laugh* during the trailer. The entire run felt too much like "Mark Wahlberg vs. Wind."

In that respect, I entertained. (The original trailer still has me wanting to see the movie)

Lady in the Water was awful!
  • Luis
Even if you think this movie might be good or might be bad, I think that people that have never heard of Night will end up seeing it just to find out what the hell is making people off themselves. And the rest of us will be looking for that and the inevitable 'twist'.

Lady in the Water was excellent.

There are so few fans, I wish there was a way to band together!

    M. Night doesn't seem to understand that his movies don't function as good cinema without some form of an ending.

I'm not saying everything needs to be neatly wrapped up for me in the end (see: The Invasion, with Nic Kidman...ugh), but a little closure isn't too hard to ask for, is it?
  • Cindy
Give credit to M. Night for trying to produce intelligent horror/scare films. Frankly, I have grown so weary of the big budget flicks that seem to think that cursing and car crashes constitute plot. Look, I love a good summer action film as much as anyone. I just want to see some thought given to plot and character. Yes, it can be done. Jaws, Aliens, Indiana Jones, Die Hard, Terminator, Desperado, are just a handful of great action films that delivered on energy, humor and interesting characters. I welcome the M. Night films.
