Why not? On May 15th, Sylvester Stallone’s Rambo will die for the first time on the big screen in 430-plus theaters around the country. Yes, 1982’s First Blood will have a digitally re-mastered one-off showing complete with the alternative ending that, in a parallel dimension, left no sequels…and probably no Slashfilm. I kid. Included in the screening is a special “never before seen” interview with Stallone in which he’ll extend his arms countless times to emphasize the film’s “epic” creation and grin somewhat painfully while reminiscing, I imagine. We’ve pasted all gazillion of the participating theaters after the jump because we like ya. And click here for more info. Oh yeah, and O’Doyle Rambo rules.

I’ll only be going if this is really secretly the new Rambo movie playing in disguise…and THAT has bonus footage, and the bonus footage is just more killing. Because that was possibly the funniest movie of the year so far (I haven’t seen Harold and Kumar).

But seriously, What the hell were some reviewers doing praising that crap.

3.23 kills per minute + Baby In Fire + Vein Covered roided out 70+ Stallone + AWESOME ACTING + a man being turned into liquid from bullets = Cinematic Excellence????

And sorry for spoiling the best parts of that movie for anyone who hasn’t seen it…but it’s hilarious

Rambo can’t be killed. I may skip this because the suicide ending will probably make me cry like a little girl.

    P.S. Rambo is god.

    where are the screening time/places?

I saw a poster for this at the 34th Street Lowes in NYC. But then later I went to the Virgin Megastore and saw Rambo 1-3 all on sale, $10 EACH. Seriously

I am warning everyone, this event is run by Fathom events.

They butchered the one-night showing of “Poltergeist” in October of 2007.

The audio was quiet, the picture was pixelated, it was in FULL SCREEN and the movie was BROADCASTED BY SATELLITE!

I’m sorry ,but digital satellite projection does not replace 35mm.

I’m just warning everyone before they slap $10 to this event. I wouldn’t say anything if the event was $2 for a projected DVD showing ,but considering $10, its worth buying the dvds instead.

    @ Scott

I just heard the same qualms from a friend. Inneresting.

I’m not sure if they will do the same for “First Blood”.

I read on the website that “First Blood” will be shown in its ‘original format’ and will be letterboxed on the top and bottom of the screen.

Does that mean 35 mm print showing? I don’t know?

Call your local theater and ask if they are receiving film reels for “First Blood” before you purchase.
    You’ve been warned.

    Whow!!

I really, yes, really want to see this version of the movie. I only saw a scene that he dies on youtube, but not the rest of the alternative end.

Does anyone know if he will come screen in Europe sometime?? Or will it come on Blue-ray??

I know how much impact First Blood made on all our lives. John J. Rambo taught us to be men, albeit post traumatic stressed, guilt ridden, insubordinate, crazily violent men. From that first encounter with Brian Denehey where we all felt that uncontrollable hunger to fight the man, the Po-Po man, to the, dare I say, Oscar worthy scene near the bitter end (which I refer to as the “Jonathan” Rambo scene due to the intense emotions that Sly so masterfully pours on film in his fit of sobbs and slurs). Such tenderness, such pain. And then of course there’s the 60 minutes in between where he dresses himself in a tarp, sharpens his knife, hides in a cave, jumps off a cliff, skewers himself, sharpens his knife, booby traps the woods, uses his knife as a compass, and runs around town with a .50 caliber machine gun blowing things up. Ahh Rambo, sweet, sweet Rambo, when you say jump, we say why?

Get your ticket or don’t. It matters not. But I’ll be going. Sly needs us….

Incredible that this is going to play for one night(ala those special one-night Fangoria sponsored event screenings)and with the alternate ending(where Rambo dies),for I guess this must be Sylvester Stallone’s way of killing off Rambo(since he currently has no intentions for a “Rambo 5″)and moving on to his future(non-Rambo and non-Rocky)projects.

I saw it last night at the Tinseltown in Grapevine, Texas. Audio was good, picture quality not so much. I don’t think that a print was used. After the alternate ending, the screen went to a Microsoft Windows desktop. Looked better on my projector at home with the dvd. I was a little surprised at the $10 being charged. I am not so sure that I will be attending another one of these events.
