Office Space AdMike Judge is ready to return to the director’s chair! You probably know Mike Judge as the creator of Beavis and Butthead, King of The Hill and the popular cult work comedy Office Space. Fox basically buried Judges’ second feature film Idiocracy, which now appears to be cultivating a cult following on DVD/tv.

Judge’s third live-action feature film Extract will explore “what it’s like to be the boss when everything seems to be shifting around you.” Jason Bateman has signed on to star, Judge’s new shingle Ternion Prods. will produce, while Miramax has come aboard to distribute the film in the U.S. Not much else is known, we’ll update you when more information is available.

Is Jason Batman going to be in The Dark Knight?

If only Judge had Apatow-like success with his movies… sigh. Great news, hard to top imo.

Judge AND Bateman???? Count me in. Hell yeah!

Why did I read this? Now I’m too excited to sleep.

Is Idiocracy worth my time? It sits there taunting me at the video store…The name Judge tempting me. But I hold out because I don’t want his name tarnished.

Will I regret watching it? Or love it and wonder why it was buried?

Idiocracy is good, even though it’s got Dax Shepard in it. If you like Judge’s way of emphasizing his satire (like later Beavis & Butthead), the whole movie is like a big knowing wink.

    IDIOCRACY is horrible.

Sorry. I love Mike Judge. I happily, eagerly believed the stories that FOX has “buried” Idiocracy because it was just so brilliant and bold.

Nope. They really buried it because it really really sucked.

    @ Sauce

If your head has ever exploded after venturing into the depths of Wal-Mart at peak consumer hour you will like Idiocracy.

    Sauce!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To love Office Space truly, you have to take that point of view into the future. Can you pinpoint the exact moment in Office Space that made you love it? I answer, hecks no!!! There is a great big smile waiting after wading nipple deep into Judge’s world in Idiocracy. I guess you could just start watching Lifetime for Women…

    @ Hunter

Actually, I’ve had that very experience on multiple occasions. Then I stopped shopping at Wal-Mart. Best decision I ever made.

And that is a very compelling argument.

Yeah, I love Jason Batman. He was amazing in Arrested Development……..

    Oh and, Idiocracy is TERRIBLE.

    STAY AWAY.

As much as I loved Office Space, Idiocracy was absolutely terrible. It was incredibly boring, bland, and seemed like it was three times as long as it actually was. If you are expecting some sort of cleverness or biting satire, you won’t find it there. I’m not sure I even laughed once during the entire movie.

But I doubt that will prevent you from seeing it. A number of my friends tried to warn me, but based on Office Space alone, I insisted on seeing it. What a complete waste of time. It’s just dreadful

I’m surprised to hear that it is developing a following and can’t say that I actually believe it. I watched it on HBO and I’m sure other people checked it out because of Judge’s name, but, like me, found it to be horrible. I can’t imagine people actually thinking it was funny or telling their friends to see it.

How can anyone dislike Idiocracy? really, there’s nothing wrong with it. It’s funny as hell. The only thing that prevents it from being perfect is perhaps the last act, but it’s farrrr from horrible unless you’re one of the people being mocked on in the movie.

The typo of “Jason Batman” at once made my evening and made me instantly become a bigger fan of Jason Bateman. It also gave me the strange mental image of Jason Batman playing Bruce Wayne. What a messed up movie that would be.

  15. Gravatar

Jason Bateman as Batman? Wouldn’t that be something!

I’m with the anti-Idiocracy people. That movie is a chore to watch. Horrific casting, lame script, and visually…well I guess they just really needed a bigger budget. Where the comedy of Office Space was nuanced, Idocracy’s felt like a sledgehammer.

Got a lot of love for Mr Judge though. Looking forward to seeing how this comes out.

Idiocracy was one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen.

IDIOCRACY is a bad movie with moments of sheer brilliance in it; similar in fashion, actually, to OFFICE SPACE. OS is not really a very good movie, but it has enough humorous moments to overcome. IDIOCRACY does not. Judge probably needs a writing partner to put in a decent plot for Judge to work within, b/c he’s got some great, hilarious ideas (duh).

I definitely turned Idiocracy off before it was over, it was terrible. Dax Shepard’s performance totally ruined it and made me turn it off. The movie had great visual comedy, but once the characters started speaking the movie blew the big one.
