Yesterday it was announced that Ayelet Zurer (Munich) had landed the lead female role opposite Tom Hanks in Ron Howard’s summer ‘09 prequel to The Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons. Tonight it was revealed that Ewan McGregor will play Camerlengo Carlo Ventresca, the late pope’s closest aide who helps symbologist professor Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) in the investigation of a murder and a plot to blow up the Vatican during a papal conclave. Shooting is set to begin in Europe in June before heading to Los Angeles.

I think it’s a good choice. He always does good work… even if the movies he’s in aren’t great.
I really hope Howard and Hanks have the kinks worked out of their formula for this one. I do think DaVinci Code was as good as it could’ve been (which wasn’t that great), but with a better baseline story to work with they could fix it this time around… possibly… but probably not.

@ peter
thrs 24th into fri 25th was an excellent day(s) for the news, thanks
i love mcgregor, and off the top of my head can’t think of a film of his i don’t care for (anybody see the weird, ‘young adam’?). think it’ll be different/cool to see him with hanks. mcgregor also has a lucifer based film on imdb opposite daniel craig (i, lucifer) that sounds brilliant.

Angels and Demons is the best Brown-Book.
This movie will be great, if the adapt it the right way.
Straight, suspense and dark!

Very cool choice. I’m hoping this book gets more care in its adaptation. It’s not as incendiary to religion in some ways but much more so in others. I suppose when you write a book about (SPOILER) an ancient sect wanting to implode the Vatican (SPOILER) it’s impossible not to offend a few people in the process…

The Da Vinci Code sucked. I can’t believe it made that much money. People are stupid. I like Ewan McGregor so at least that was good choice.

Great… Another mediocre book becomes a star studded mediocre film.

Ewan is so pretty and a good actor so when he gets work I am glad.
But, man, this Da Vinci Code nonsense…from the books to the movie…is SO BAD and repetitive and just not entertaining to me at all.

Is it just me or is Ewan McGregor king of bad career moves?

Great choice! McGregor is a great actor and Angels and Demons is a way better book than the DaVinci Code ever was. All that hype on the book was caused only by the religious issues. Angels and Demons is truly action packed and full of twists and turns.
McGregor definitely has the potential to be great as the Camerlengo… But i always pictured Jim Caviezel for the role. I guess he couldnt do it because it might offend his faith.. GReat choice in Mcgregor nonetheless. I couldn’t think of a better substitute for Caviezel. :)
