The new trailer for Disney’s The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian has hit the web. The new trailer definitely takes on a darker tone. I really wonder how many people are actually interested in this film. It appears that Disney is not committed to continuing the series after Dawn Trader unless the box office dictates that there is enough interest. Watch the trailer below, and as always, I’d love to know what you think in the comments.
You can watch the new trailer in High Definition on Myspace. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian hits theaters on May 16th 2008.
Discuss: Are you still interested in Narnia?

Narnia puts me into a dilemma. I love the books, but the first movie was simply a ‘meh’ to me. This one looks slightly better, but it would be nice to infuse the franchise with more character. By that I mean, hire a director with a distinct visual style. A Ridley Scott, Curaon or Del Toro could elevate the world that Adamson has so blandly created into something more memorable.

Uhh hell yeah I still want to see Narnia!
April 22nd, 2008 at 4:40 pm
Can’t wait - this one looks great. Don’t know why you have it out for Narnia so bad…
April 22nd, 2008 at 4:50 pm
I was excited for the first one, and was left disappointed. I’m not seeing this one. I hope it fails.

Forget Narnia, Twilight is gonna be the next huge fantasy series.
April 22nd, 2008 at 4:54 pm
We need more people to go see this one or else they won’t make any more movies after Dawn Trader. I hope people go see this so they will make more. I know the last one wasn’t as magical as the book, but this one looks so much better. Please see this movie.

There’s something about the Narnia films which annoys me and it’s the look of it. It’s just too clear cut and because of that, it’s bland. It’s almost so plain that the fairytale aspect stands out in a world it should blend in seamlessly with.
April 22nd, 2008 at 5:03 pm
The element I always loved about fantasy flicks was the fun, and it seems like the recent batch have forgotten that ingredient.
April 22nd, 2008 at 5:06 pm
Heck yes, I’m excited for Narnia! I’m glad that this one is a little darker, too. Although, am I alone in thinking that the CGI for Aslan looks a little worse in this film?
Anyway, I like Lindsey’s comment. I’m curious to see how well Twilight does at the box office. I love that series.

Alsan (among the other effects) looks worse b/c Rhythm and Hues did him in the first film and this one got doled out to some 2nd rate english vfx shop :P

I was a die hard fan of the British children’s TV miniseries growing up. Which I think the shows covered most of the books. They seemed to get it right, it felt like the books were coming to life. But with the first film it didn’t have the same connection for some reason. Maybe it was all the horrible daylight CGI. After viewing the new trailer for Prince Caspian they might be closer with this movie. Considering the novels themselves were very dark for children’s books.

Ugh. No thank you. I don’t think I could sit through that.
April 22nd, 2008 at 6:11 pm
ghoest
hmm… I’m sorry
No disrespect to Rythem and Hues work for Narnia… they are themselves a 2nd rate vfx studio… (again I said, the work on the Narnia excluded)

The first Narnia was kind of disappointing for me, maybe because I was unconsciously comparing it with the lord of the rings. This trailer looks good though, i expect this movie no to be to kiddie like the previous one
April 22nd, 2008 at 7:15 pm
Am I the only one who sees this movie getting lost in the shuffle? The first one was more successful b/c it was during the christmas season and featured some overtly christian messages (not saying theres a problem with that), and this one is apparently much darker, more adult and a week before Indiana Jones. 291 million is gonna be rough this time around.

shora:
what would you consider 1st rate studios? In my book R+H is definelty a first rate studio. Their work speaks for itself also (Narnia, Golden Compass, Incredible Hulk, Lord of the Rings ect.). They are direct competitors with ILM, Weta, ect.
April 22nd, 2008 at 7:33 pm
Sorry, looks weaj. The first one was ridiculous, this is just looks worse.
And for the love of God R&H, stop doing CG animals. They look like shit.
April 22nd, 2008 at 7:55 pm
I enjoyed the first Narnia and probably will see this one. But I just don’t think the film is being marketed properly. In addition with the summer being really packed, the film should have been pushed back to a November release. I don’t see it doing that well in boxoffice unless the reviews are over the top.

APPLAUSE FOR PETER.
THANK YOU FOR TAKING THAT SHIT DOWN

April 22nd, 2008 at 9:15 pm
Definitely looking forward to this and I hope they continue the series. Would love to see Horse and his Boy, and the Magician’s whatever that one was hah!
April 22nd, 2008 at 9:32 pm
“Christopher Mark”, I was/am also in love with that Narnia BBC miniseries, but I’m pretty sure that they only did four of the books (the same 3 disney will do + the silverchair). If i’m wrong PLEASE direct me to the other three BBC versions. Aslan was so badass on the BBC.
re: the disney version. the first one was fine, and I’m in for the next and any subsequent Narnia film. i’m just there to relive childhood tales. i doubt they’ll ever surpass my expectations.
April 22nd, 2008 at 10:45 pm
Thanks peter, you’re the best!
April 23rd, 2008 at 5:17 am
i will definitely go…but I am starting to tire of the fantasy/magic movie genre, ironically its all I read in books. So if they stop at three I won’t be too disappointed.

“By that I mean, hire a director with a distinct visual style. A Ridley Scott, Curaon or Del Toro could elevate the world that Adamson has so blandly created into something more memorable.”
I can’t imagine Ridley Scott taking this up, he doesn’t do kid’s films. As for Cuaron and Del Toro, they would probably want to make it a lot darker (same for Scott), which isn’t what Walden Media and Disney would want at all.
This looks like a waste of time and money, what with Iron Man before and Indy IV after. The first one lacked any sense of character or style, and the story (haven’t read the book) felt sterile and contrived compared to the likes of Pan’s Labyrinth. It just felt like a B-movie.

The first Narnia was great and this second one just looks like pure awesomeness. One of the movies I’m highly anticipating this summer!
April 23rd, 2008 at 10:17 am
i cant wait 2 see this film i ave been lookin 4ward 2 it 4 ages. it looks realli gd as well. i knw nothin can beat the books the same can be sed of harry potter but the films are interesting and something families can watch together and most parents remember reading the books as kids so it gives them something 2 bond with their kids ova. give narnia a chance most families ave been torn apart but the beauty of this knid of film is that it is somethin that all the family can watch together and enjoy
April 23rd, 2008 at 12:22 pm
First one was uninspiring dreck from Disney. The second looks like more of the same to me.
I always thought the Narnia books would make bad movies anyway. Perhaps if they had the weight of a visionary director they could be interesting? I dunno..
New trailer doesn’t look too promising though…Yuck.
Ironman is going to kick many asses in these upcoming weeks, I’m afraid that cheesy CG lion is at the head of the line.
April 23rd, 2008 at 12:25 pm
I’m extremely disappointed that they don’t want to commit to doing the other four books. Maybe they could just do two movies and combine ‘The Silver Chair’ and ‘A Horse and His Boy’, and another for ‘The Magician’s Nephew’, and ‘The Last Battle’. I know those books are smaller, and slower… Maybe make each one one to one and a half hours each. That would save them money, but the fan’s would be satisfied.
It makes me sad that studios value money over their fan’s wishes. Although, this is nothing new. Movie studio exec’s haven’t had souls, common sense, or taste in decades.

sorry for late reply…. but the 1st rate VFX studios are ILM, Weta, DD (after the new hiring of ILM sup’s) and Sony Imagewokrs and maybe Framestore and Double Negative mixed in between a bit…
R&H’s quality of work is still way below these guys. and to comment on the movies you mentioned:
Narnia –> I said even before, this is the only thing that came out of R&H that looks really good.
Compass –> hmm… the only good vfx sequences in the movie were the ones involving the Polar Bears and they were done by Framestore… Please take a look at that horrible looking golden monkey and tell me that R&H did a good job on it…. and please for the VFX oscars… Everyone pretty much agrees that they did not deserve it last year… maybe the votes got split between Transformers and Pirates3
hulk –> please don’t judge anything before it comes out… and it doesn’t look that good to begin with. just by toning down the green skin darker doesn’t mean you are doing a better job at VFX
Lord of the rings –> sorry.. that was all Weta, specially 2nd and 3rd.. the 1st they had some help from DD
hmm.. anymore?
