Nobel Peace Prize-winner Al Gore has told the The Sun last week that he would make a sequel to his Oscar-winning documentary, An Inconvenient Truth.
“I will make a sequel to the 2006 documentary ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ and despite earths ‘rising fever’, I am hopeful for a happy ending,” said Gore. “I have to say the situation has not improved since I made the movie in 2006. Sure, awareness has grown and more people are concerned since scientists said we had just ten years to take action to halt rising sea levels. But the situation has got worse. The entire North Polar ice cap is melting and could be gone in some areas in as little as five years.”
However, Alison Lehrer, a spokeswoman for Paramount, told the Business & Media Institute that no movie sequel is in the works.
“There are no plans for a sequel,” Lehrer said. “That is the official word.”
Gore’s book sequel to An Inconvenient Truth, The Path to Survival, will be released in Spring 2009. The book was originally set to debut on Earth Day 2008. The publisher of the book, Rodale Books doesn’t rule out the possibility of a sequel happening at another movie studio, but says that no plans are underway right now.”

I’m a liberal who believes gays should marry, that god doesn’ exist, and most of the other things that liberals believe in.
However, I have no doubt in my mind that global warming is a politicized notion that is completely unscientific and without any merit whatsoever. Anybody with a background in science can see that the Earth’s temperature is regulated by the sun. It’s been warmer during the 1400’s and we cooled back up again. Just look at the latest news as of this very moment. The earth is cooling. If the earth were headed into an smoldering mess with all the pollution we have created, wouldn’t the Earth continue to heat up without any slowdown much less even the slightest reversal?
Global warming is bullshit.

@Gauis: I’m just like that too. Except, I think that the earth goes through natural warming and cooling cycles. It may be getting warmer now, but it’s definitely hyped up way too much by the media, and by politicians. I think that if the earth is getting warmer, humans don’t have as much as an effect on it as we’re made to believe.
Plus, Al Gore is a hypocrite who preaches all this stuff about living cleaner and more energy efficient and that the situation isn’t improving while at the same time racking up a $30,000 utility bill [http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/GlobalWarming/Story?id=2906888&page=1]

Consider MAN MADE GLOBAL WARMING is bullsh*t… if you look a facts the earth naturally heat and cools… Man produces less that 10% of all carbon dioxide… for good sake cows produce more than us…. and they dont even burn fuel…..

global warming is another fear tactic to keep people from working together. it keeps us in survival mode and only looking out for number one. it destroys our empathy for other people.
if people came together and said “we’re not gonna take your shit anymore” to the power elite…well, that would be an interesting day.

So many people use the “global warming isn’t happening” argument as an excuse to not do anything environmentally friendly. Global warming isn’t the only reason to change things. So many of the chemicals we use cause harmful effects on plants and animals as well as our fellow man. I am personally more concerned with that. It is crazy that these companies are poisoning us and we don’t care because heaven forbid we pay any extra to make things a little safer. What exactly is the downside of being more environmentally friendly? I think some people are opposed just because they don’t want to be told what to do. That seems a little childish to me. I am really not trying to be preachy. I know that everyone has to make these kind of decisions for themselves.

Kat, you’ve hit on an excellent point. Just because I don’t believe in GW hysteria doesn’t mean that I think we ought to dump toxic waste in to rivers and that we shouldn’t have smog controls on cars. Heck, I’d love to see my state adopt the same smog control rules that CA has because I live east of a mountain range which “catches” all the exhaust.
Although LA is still lousy in the air quality dept, they have improved it quite a bit from where it used to be. I just don’t want to see the govt freaking out and imposing global taxes and over-reacting to the point it seriously harms the economy. Look at what’s happening already with that STUPID ethanol idea: Farmers are replacing other crops like wheat with corn because it pays a lot more and they have incentives due to the initiatives surrounding ethanol. So not only are food prices escalating due to less of it being grown, there’s the double whammy that corn is used in so many foods and it’s now going to fuel so those foods rise in cost as well.
And regarding electric cars: Where do people think the electricity to power those cars comes from? Helllloooooo: coal plants.

I don’t know whether or not Global Warming is real but I don’t think we should take the chance. What’s the worst that can happen if we buy into global warming? We plant more trees? Use more renewable resources? Have more fuel efficient cars? A cleaner overall planet? I think that even if Global Warming isn’t real it would still be beneficial to take the measures that would prevent it.

There is so much inanity on this board that it’s hard to know where to begin.
I find it incredible that so many of the posters here are skeptical of human-made climate change. The most serious scientists have looked at the data and strongly concluded that man-made greenhouse gases (and yes, that includes the methane expelled by the billions of factory-farm-raised [and -tortured] animals each year, which is more potent than carbon and has led the U.N. to declare animal husbandry to be the single biggest contributor to climate change) are causing the planet to warm, and yet some people think their uninformed gut is more accurate.
My guess is that your gut doesn’t want to have to change its damaging habits (even though it wouldn’t really be that hard).
And by the way, iProtestant, the most self-interested power elite actually doesn’t want you to believe in global warming because they are profiting immensely from your ignorance. You are playing right into the hands of Exxon-Mobil (regular $10 billion+ quarterly profits these days) and the American Enterprise Institute (who prepared an internal memo making the spread of uncertainty, and not actual refutation, their strategy to suppress societal acceptance of global warming).
These entities and their political allies have worked very hard to label intellectuals “the elite” so that ignorance and uncertainty prevails.
To the poster who questioned why global warming is a peace issue, I urge you to become more familiar with the full consequences of the planet warming as predicted. For one, just imagine the conflicts that will happen if fresh water, the life-giver, becomes more scarce. Obviously environmental conditions play an essential role in allowing for peace and stability, and even the Bush-Cheney Pentagon has put out reports admitting that climate change poses a bigger potential threat than that of terrorism, partly because it will cause deep social unrest that conceivably leads to more terrorism.
This problem is time-sensitive. My advice to all the skeptics out there is to get over your personal insecurities, look at the data *honestly*, and join the reality-based community.

Oh, and one other thing. all the other solutions (fuel efficient cars, renewable energy sources, etc.) will be implemented by the free enterprise system anyway without the government’s help (at a cheaper cost and faster time frame as well). Point is, keep the government out of people’s lives.

I cringe when people say that “I strongly believe (or don’t believe) in Global Warming.” First, the issue brought by Al Gore is not on the warming climate, but on the warming climate caused by manmade CO2 emissions. This isn’t abortion rights, or gays right to marry, etc. This is science. Manmade CO2 emissions are either causing the temperature to rise, or they are not. Period. You can’t “feel passionately” that co2 raises the earth temperature.
Might I remind you that Greenland got it’s name because 500 years ago it used to be Green. Something made the ice cover it, just as something made the ice retreat from iceland and north america, and it wasn’t manmade co2.
I don’t think anybody is credible to talk about the effects of CO2 unless that person has had extensive learning on subjects such as physical gas dynamics, statistical mechanics, quantum mechanics, molecular absorption, and chemical thermodynamics. Take a look at recent chemist, aerospace, and mechanical engineering journals. When you go by validated scientific and engineering theory, CO2 is not the culprit. Hardly anyone on tv talking about global warming know anything about how co2 molecules absorb radiation, what wavelengths of radiation that co2 absorbs and what kind get through, etc. The bigger problem is water vapor. CO2 is such a small part of the atmosphere, whereas water vapor makes up a big portion.
The graphs of CO2 rise and Temperature rise that al gore shows look like it supports co2 as the culprit… until you zoom in on the scale and realize that the Temp. rise predates the CO2 rise. The reason is easy to see: Think of the Oceans (which cover the majority of the earth) as a fizzing soda can. The fizz is CO2. When the temperature of the oceans rise, they fizz off more CO2. This has been proven. The oceans are so big, this accounts for a huge amount of co2 release in the air. What happens to this co2? Algae, trees, and vegetation eat it all up.
Just some stuff to think about. Don’t just regurgitate what talking heads on TV tell you.

I’m no scientist, but I am a mother. Scientists will argue for and against everything. The government paid scientists in the USA and many other polluting countires want you to believe that climate change is all hype, but for my childrens sake and my future grandchildrens sake I don’t want to take the chance in that if we don’t do anything together to re-evaluate the way that we live, there will be a really crap planet for our kids to live in.
The climate change issue tries to bring people together, as a whole to work together to make things better. It is no bad thing to use renewable energy, to try and bring down our carbon emissions, to try and live in a better way by recycling and reusing. Whats wrong with our kids being told all this in school.
Yes the planet does go through hot and cold periods, but what if this new warm period is the warmest yet? It may be typical, but it could cause unrepairable damage that we will have to live with, the sun rays are a lot more powerful now that the ozone has thinned so much, this is fact.
Im not willing to take the chance that there is no global warming, so I am doing as much as I can to do my bit……………………

We all know the earth has gone through heating and cooling cycles in the past. We all know that burning so-called fossil fuels releases CO2 and water vapor. We don’t *know* to what extent the two are linked if at all. There are too many variables for anyone to definitively say they *know* what the exact effect of man-made emissions are or are not on the environment.
If we’re going to err it probably makes sense to do so on the side of caution. I don’t think anyone wants poison air, poison water, or other unlivable conditions to abound. Neither do most of us yearn for an economic collapse that could be the result of too many regulations implemented in too short a period of time. Ultimately the consumer/taxpayer foots the bill for anything and everything.
As the cost of energy goes up, so do the prices of nearly everything that has an energy component. For example, when diesel prices climb, the trucking industry passes on the extra cost through a fuel surcharge to customers, who in turn raise the cost of whatever they make until it gets down to you and me.
Current fuel prices should be making the die-hard “global warming is mainly caused by man-made emissions” crowd ecstatic. Those higher prices should result in less fuel consumed and a renewed effort at efficiency. I’m not really seeing that excitement from those around me who fit into that crowd though. I see mostly complaints about the fuel prices and somehow G. W. Bush and company are always to blame even though no one can explain how in detail.
If you truly believe that man-made emissions are a root cause of global climate change and that left unchecked it will result in calamity for all of mankind I have a simple question for you:
Why are you on the internet consuming fuel? Shouldn’t you be conserving energy and therefore burning less fuel creating the problem for all of us? If it’s that serious you should be doing everything in under your personal control to decrease the amount of emissions that are harming the planet. Do you still use your heating and air conditioning? Do you still drive your car for unecessary activities? Do you still leave lights on in rooms when no one is even in there? Do you take any personal responsibility for any of this? Guess what? *we* buy all the crap that the big corporations make when they produce the pollution, *we* think need to heat or cool our homes, *we* have to surf the web and watch TV and use microwaves and hair dryers, etc., etc., ad nausem.
The Amish are about the only group of people in this country who can truly say they are contributing very little to the problem. The rest of us add to it every time we post on one of these forums.
Are you waiting for your government in shining armor to come in and force businesses to change how they operate? Are you going to refrain from complaining as the price of nearly everything continues to rise significantly to pay for those new standards and regulations when/if the government does step in?
If you truly believe man is destroying the planet then you should stop doing the things that add to the problem instead of complaining about what someone else is doing.
