Guillermo del Toro's Saturn and the End of Days

At the New York Comic-Con, Guillermo del Toro revealed that he will be making “one more, perhaps final, little movie about childhood and horror” called Saturn and the End of Days. The story follows a kid named Saturn who is watching the end of the world (”Rapture and the Apocalypse”) while walking back and forth from the supermarket.

“It’s like, what would happen if the Apocalypse was viewed by you [while] doing errands. You go back and forth and nothing big happens except the entire world is being sucked into a vortex of fire.” Del Toro said. “The small movies you have much more control. If I say this is the design of the fawn and the girl is going to do this or do that, that’s me. In Big Hollywood movies, you get a 50-page memo. It’s horrible. Independent filmmaking is like drawing a comic book, the Hollywood movie is like having five hands holding your hand while you’re drawing the comic book.”

del Toro revealed that he has just begun to sketch and write this film, and it probably won’t get made for a few years. Sounds very interesting. Pan’s Labyrinth is certainly my favorite film that Guillermo has created so far. I’ve noticed that I tend to like his independent work more than his hollywood efforts. And while a Guillermo del Toro production of The Hobbit sounds, well awesome. I’m thirsty for more original work from this great director, and Saturn fits the bill.

I'm a big fan of Del Tero but seriously - how many projects does this guy have on the go?

He'll be lucky to retire and film all the stuff he's been linked to be doing. Either way, if we have anything approaching the quality of Pan’s Labyrinth then I'll be a happy bunny.

This sounds very cool. I also liked his analogy regarding indepedent films.

If this project turns out anywhere near as well as Pan's Labyrinth or The Devil's Backbone, it'll be a masterpiece.
