Looks pretty cool. The ones I like best are the ones that aren’t quit as gritty and run-down. like the emperor one or the two Fett’s.
April 15th, 2008 at 12:15 pm
Brilliant idea and work. WOW.
April 15th, 2008 at 12:18 pm
I want to make these my background. Is there any way to get the High Res versions of them?
April 15th, 2008 at 12:28 pm
These are waaaaaaay old.
April 15th, 2008 at 12:29 pm
Like these pics made the rounds in 2002 when Clones came out……….
April 15th, 2008 at 12:31 pm
Jerry: Cool Stuff isn’t required to be new :) Old stuff can be just as cool, if not cooler
April 15th, 2008 at 1:23 pm
DAMN THATS FUCKING SICK!!!
April 15th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
Jerry, this isn’t break.com or something, doesn’t matter when these photos came out, it’s cool stuff no matter when they came out.
April 15th, 2008 at 3:31 pm
What a surprise Star Wars stuff again.
April 15th, 2008 at 4:11 pm
i think its the resolution im viewing them at, but they seem kinda lazy. like the guy just cut & paste. again, its probably my shitty cpu.
April 15th, 2008 at 7:01 pm
These belong on www.ifstarwarswasreal.com !
April 15th, 2008 at 9:19 pm
Very cool images, how did this guy get the clone armor? there were all
CGI in the movies
April 16th, 2008 at 7:02 am
I think all of those images were taken from the movies. I really doubt someone has a dewback.
This is great. Nice color. It is reminiscent of the HDR images I’ve seen on the web lately.
April 16th, 2008 at 9:36 am
I’m actually a little underwhelmed by these. I mean, maybe it’s ‘cuz they aren’t as hi-res as they truly are, but it just looks like a photoshop chop where he didn’t really work on the lighting (or perceived lighting) as well as he should.
And, there’s NO excuse for Vader’s lightsaber to have a visible ’stick’ in the middle. That’s photoshop 101, right…I mean, if you’re into SW.
April 16th, 2008 at 10:49 am
Paul I am a little underwhelmed by you. I guess if you are so hot at this, where are your pics? I mean if you are going to bad mouth something, you should be prepared to show something better. If not, then that is just douchebaggery.
April 16th, 2008 at 10:54 am
[..]Vía slashfilm[…]
April 16th, 2008 at 10:58 am
So, if you don’t like a movie ‘anti-paul”, do you go out and make better movies just to show people ‘how it’s done’? When you have a bad meal at a restaurant and tell the waitstaff you didn’t like it, for whatever reason, do you jump out of your seat and hit the kitchen to show them how to cook?
If not, then I am not sure where you’re going with this, unless you are the artist and hypersensitive about critique. If you make a piece of art public, it is open to scrutiny.
It’s a COMMENT section, and I am commenting on what has been posted. Saying that I am “underwhelmed” is by no means ‘douchebaggery’, as you put it. Douchebaggery would have been “OMG that sux so bad…LOLZ”
See the difference?
I am saying is that, for a professional photographer, this really didn’t look as good as I thought it would. I visited the post based on the preview photo I saw containing the Beetle and Jango Fett which had the composition and lighting correct.
April 16th, 2008 at 10:58 am
Nice!
April 16th, 2008 at 11:00 am
Holy stupid.
Yawn..
April 16th, 2008 at 11:12 am
Paul you seem to be lacking an understanding of how much effort was probably put into these images. They may simply be ‘cut and paste’ as you put it but I’m pretty sure he does a better job than you can do. As you’ve already pointed out you don’t go and show a cook what to do if you’re made a bad meal but maybe you should. Nor does a cook come out and shove hot soup in your face and slap you around until you admit you can’t do better. Stopping being a retarded individual and pointlessly critical. If you’re not going to be constructive about it criticism is pointless, bitter and stemming from jealousy.
Come back when you have something decent to say or maybe even go learn a bit and show something of your own? Maybe then you’ll realise how uncalled for and cruel criticism from idiots can be.
Oh and your name is very average, change it.
April 16th, 2008 at 11:20 am
Wow. Just wow.
There was nothing MEAN about my criticism, and if you think that what I wrote is “MEAN” then you’ve obviously never put anything you’ve created ‘out there’ for someone to critique. No one is universally accepted, and if I can’t post my thoughts on something PUBLIC, then why have a comment section, unless it’s just supposed to be a lot of “wow” “cool” “neato” “I like” type of stuff.
I think the PHOTOGRAPHS the guy took are great. I just think that at the resolution you see them, that the placement and technique of the Star Wars people doesn’t work in quite a few of them.
I even said in my first comment post that perhaps the issues I was seeing were due to resolution, but look at the one with Darth Vader. That’s what I’m talking about…It really had a lot of things that could have been fixed…the lightsaber is a glaring example.
Show me what was “cruel” about what I said.
The only MEAN things I’ve seen in regards to my post and replies where I”m called “retarded” “bitter” “jealous” and “an idiot”.
But then again, this is the internet, and maybe even responding to these posts is a bit ‘retarded’.
April 16th, 2008 at 11:43 am
boring and dumb
April 16th, 2008 at 11:51 am
wasting time and keystrokes
April 16th, 2008 at 12:01 pm
Honestly, I’d have to agree with Paul. Artwork open to a public forum should be scrutinized to all forms of opinion.
The idea is awesome, but I would agree with Paul that it was not done well enough to fool me into thinking that this is a real “untouched” photo. Paul is absolutely correct that the lighting in a lot of the pictures could have been better - even the shading at the feet of the red imperial guards needs some better blending. Also, Paul, with a higher resolution image it would be even easier to notice the lighting/shading “problems” in the picture. Keep in mind as well that the Star Wars characters are also CGI and even in the movie you can differentiate from a real person to that of a CGI animated character.
Hats off to the artist for making something very interesting and pleasing.
April 16th, 2008 at 12:25 pm
You guys should duke it out by sending in your best work to the site mentioned earlier, www.ifstarwarswasreal.com and see who gets published.
April 16th, 2008 at 12:31 pm
Pretty nice pics
April 16th, 2008 at 12:56 pm
Did anyone else feel a Halflife 2 vibe from those shots?
April 16th, 2008 at 1:39 pm
Can you imagine finding Jabba the Hutt squatting in some abandoned building? It makes me think of Saddam Hussein — the once powerful ruler reduced to hiding out.
April 16th, 2008 at 2:05 pm
it’s a great job
April 16th, 2008 at 2:59 pm
Fantastic! Thanks for sharing my vision!
April 16th, 2008 at 4:04 pm
Hello people,
These photographs were taken and composited together actually. The SW characters you see in the photos are statues and figures from several SW licencees like Kotobukiya, Gentle Giant, Sideshow Collectibles and Attakus. You can check out my visual archive and see for yourself what kind of statues the artist used to composite his shots with the environments we see in his work.
April 16th, 2008 at 4:32 pm
god win point coming ….
April 16th, 2008 at 6:40 pm
These rock!
April 16th, 2008 at 9:49 pm
I cant remember seeing anything more lame. The creative genius resides firmly with the art direction of the characters from Star Wars and this shmuck manages to diminsh that with his noobie level of photoshopping skill. Lowest level of the digital food chain.
April 16th, 2008 at 10:06 pm
Oh, and one more thing …all the winy sycophants nagging ‘paul’ for his insightful remarks should put their juice boxes down pick up their Leia dolls and have some down time. This art is garden variety photoslop. The lighting is either wrong or not considered. Often obvious composition errors are made such as clning the same figure in one scene in the same position. And even if it was done well the resounding question remains: yeah, so what ? I mena the big concept here is ” Geee, guys what if star wars technology and characters were part of the modern scenario ” Uh, yeah geeze that would be cool. What are we a bunch of 12 year olds.
What next a wager on who would win The Hulk or King Kong ?
April 16th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
Not like anyone gives enough credibility to the Internet to admit that they’re wrong on it anyway.
Cool pictures. Am I glad the artist took the time to make these? Definitely. I enjoyed looking at them.
That said, some of them could be more realistic, if the intent was to make it look like Star Wars characters in the “real” world. A few of them look like they walked out of a video game or something - the textures don’t really match.
But hey - someone else did the work and we all get the end result, so go crazy.
April 16th, 2008 at 11:56 pm
yes, orange cinema, it’s your CPU. Because your CPU renders browser images in lower quality. Because that’s what CPUs do. for sure.
April 17th, 2008 at 12:50 am
Great concept. I haven’t seen it before, and it’s a great idea. Nice work.
April 17th, 2008 at 3:20 am
They all look very stylish and brooding. Pretty much like how I wanted the ‘new three’ films should have come out. Well done.
April 17th, 2008 at 8:01 am
where are these buildings? particularly the ones with emperor and Vader. good choices.
April 18th, 2008 at 4:26 am
It’s great to see Americans in debate- you really know how to make complete idiots of yourselfs. I now know why you are regarded as obnoxious fools around the world. In London you are a judged by the loud arrogant fools who shout at the top of their voices where ever they happen to be, making it clear they are Yanks, whereas the Canadians are polite, respectful and willing to learn from other people. You have no regard for anyone but yourselves and you really need to think before you put your “brain” into gear. :-(
April 18th, 2008 at 7:19 am
This is complete fan boy rubbish. Oh look, someone dressed up in Boba Fett’s uniform in a car park. Or even worse photoshopped, as I imagine the case to be. How not amazing. Looks like basic Live Action Role Play twaddle to me. No thought given to lighting or in fact any kind of placement whatsoever. Are you all seriously impressed by 2 people wearing cloaks standing at the top of some stairs? Never been to a university graduation then? I would be concerned if anyone over 14 would be impressed by this.
Cheers. (26 for the record)
April 18th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
Let’s get back to the real debate here. I’m pro Paul!
April 18th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
I do agree that some of these could have been better, but the idea is great and the photos themselves are awesome. So I commend the artist for sure.
What is disheartening are some of the comments here. Bashing Paul for stating his opinion in an informed and intelligent way just because he found flaws in the photos? I agree with Paul; some could have been better. And he has just as much right to state that some underwhelmed him as all you have to say that these images are good. But I will say that I am underwhelmed by Phl Dash’s response, because while there is an informed reason in his reply as to why he doesn’t like these pieces, he is insulting and rude in the process.
That’s my opinion, but I’m sure that someone will have a problem with that.
April 18th, 2008 at 7:22 pm
I have shit that looks better than this
April 19th, 2008 at 12:52 am
I LIKE STAR WARS
April 19th, 2008 at 12:54 am
PS THE HULK WOULD WIN
April 19th, 2008 at 4:55 am
Wow, this is terrible.
Eat it up fanboys.
April 19th, 2008 at 6:13 am
Waouh !! une excellente idée de composition.
Les images se marient à la perfection.
L’idée est tout bonnement géniale.
MA préférée est celle avec la citroen visa .
Encore Bravo !!!!
April 19th, 2008 at 7:07 am
Ok, so my first impression of the Jango Fett images was, “This is great!”, and then I saw the others and realized they weren’t real people dressed up in costumes. I was very disappointed. Now to read that they are composited is the worst and explains why something wasn’t right about most of them.
The locations are great, but I wish the photographer had used real people dressed in SW gear. THAT would have been awesome.
April 19th, 2008 at 7:27 pm
Its like Star Wars visited Earth we’ve become part of that Galaxy Far,Far, Away!

I much prefer this:

which pre-dates this and is far more original
April 22nd, 2008 at 4:52 pm
Don’t know if this makes any impact, but this stuff was featured in a star wars magazine and won some sort of photography contest (that wasn’t hosted by star wars people).
April 23rd, 2008 at 1:03 pm
These look like action figures to me. Look at Boba Fett. His rifle scope is bent like a rubber action figure would be and “ruffles” in his pants are shiney like plastic. I went and looked back at each really close and you can tell, especially w/ the droids, the clone troopers aiming - they both have the same smudge above the knee -,Vader, the Emporer and Jaba.
Action figures enlarged and digitally lighted to look like they are actually there. Well done, I say.
May 5th, 2008 at 7:36 am
I consider this a whole new style of art.
May 6th, 2008 at 11:44 am
