“Did they bring babes, man?”

After a long drought, original sci-fi seems to be back in the studio eye thanks to Cloverfield and I Am Legend (the latter was a remake, yes, but felt fresh). Producer Neil Moritz (IAL, xXx) and Columbia Pictures are gearing up to make a (space) alien invasion movie called Battle: Los Angeles from a spec script by Chris Bertolini (The General’s Daughter). There are shades of Starship Troopers and Cloverfield, as the film will follow a “Marine platoon’s encounter in the battle against an alien invasion on the streets of Los Angeles” and like J.J. Abrams monster smash, it won’t carry a heavy price tag according to Moritz, who, btw, loves it all…

“I love the idea, and I love the script. I like it all,” Moritz said to THR. “We are going to be in production within six months. What’s attractive to me is that it’s a huge event movie that can be done at a modest scale.”

Apparently, there won’t be much, if any, shaky cam. The title is definitely no Earth Vs. Moon and the premise sounds like it could leave the brain passed out on the beach nude, but I’m willing to give Moritz the benefit. Hopefully the locale, which Variety reports will start in Santa Monica and move to Los Angeles, opens up plenty of cheesy, mouth-agape celebritard cameos.

I Am Legend “felt fresh”? You consistently make some pretty bizarre proclamations, man…

this will be bad for all involved

    @ Jojo

    Please enlighten,…man.

“Fresh” doesn’t necessarily mean I am a huge fan of the flick. It felt fresh in that it wasn’t overtly flashy in the first hour, focused on a single star in an isolated environment a la Castaway (yes, I know the source material, but we still don’t get many films like this), and wasn’t based on a comic book or sci-fi franchise. The film had more intelligence than a sci-fi blockbuster like The Day After Tomorrow et al.

You might not have liked I Am Legend, but it’s huge box office means more sci-fi is on the way, and that’s okay with me.

Firstly………. what does that pic have to do with anything? A tad too much weed this morning eh?

Or is this simply what it appers to be…… subversive racist commentary on your part, being that the film is set in los angeles and revolves around an “alien” invasion?

    Witty?

    Not so much.

    Poor taste and immature?

    DING!

As for the film, I will toss out this tribute of actual comment on the related to story to thwart the deletion goblin by stating that it is good to see hollywood embracing ideas which will cut the costs on a film without being detrimental to its quality base.

Other than that, i didn’t see any other question posed by you in regards to this “story”.

Hahah. Are you kidding? Have you seen Born in East L.A.? Did I Photoshop Cheech as seen above? Subversive racist commentary? It’s L.A. I didn’t feel like using a cliche smoggy L.A. skyline with a UFO on top. Political correctness reigns far too supreme these days. Wow. People who recklessly sling the word “racist” around are even worse.

    “Subversive racist commentary? It’s L.A.”

    I see. It’s LA.

are you inferring that illegal aliens are scurrying out the very streets and literally invading the land? Again please……enlighten us with you connection between Cheech playing a deported minority and a “Marine platoon’s encounter in the battle against an alien invasion on the streets of Los Angeles”….

ALIEN INVASION IN LA = MEXICANS
    HUNTER BRINGIN THE LOLS

fact that…………..he won’t even own up to it now shows that he knows its wrong and inappropriate. Great……… /film has got a prejudice, weed smoking right winger judging films for it.

This film actually shows promise, if it incorporates some of the brilliant tactics of cloverfield, keeping drama up, reveals to a minimum.

I didn’t realize a photo of Cheech was a rorschach test for the Third Reich. Pffffft.

I think people are making a big deal out of nothing here. It’s just a picture of Cheech…
I can see how you could come to that conclusion, but I doubt he meant it to be racist. That being said I don’t know Hunter, and maybe he really is just a bigot…But I doubt it.

  11. Gravatar

So let me get this straight. If someone opposes illegal immigration, that makes them “racist”? What kind of logic is that? Illegal immigration applies to ANY race illegally entering the country. So even if Hunter was alluding to illegals, that simply doesn’t equal “racist.” Cheech! Er, I mean, sheesh!

  12. Gravatar

    WOW!

Was my insult to Hunter’s bad attempt to a joke seriously erased from the boards? I saw it earlier this morning, jeez…you guys take some jokes too seriously.

  13. Gravatar

You guys realize that it is actually a true story right?

  14. Gravatar

    Good jeebus people.
It’s a funny picture of Cheech coming out of a damn manhole.
    Lighten up.
