We haven’t yet received clarification regarding the apparent removal of Brandon Routh’s vampire role in The Informers, but Bloody Disgusting reports that the Superman Returns actor is a lock for the lead role in an adaptation of the supernatural comic book Dylan Dog. Director Kevin Munroe, who helmed the rather abysmal TMNT for Imagi, has apparently left the animation company and Weinstein Co.’s Gatchaman to envision a live-action feature based on this Italian comic. Dark Horse Comics brought an English version of the title to the States beginning in 1999.
First impression? The film, which begins shooting in July, might share some similarity with Constantine, in that the comic revolves around a loner paranormal investigator (zombies, Jack the Ripper-types, strange portals) who has an eccentric litany of personal troubles (hopeless romantic, former alcoholic, various phobias). Many of Dog’s cases turn up a human underbelly rather than spooky kookiness appropriate for Coast to Coast AM. This will mark the second time that Dylan Dog has made his way to the screen; he appeared in alter-ego form in the likable 1994 cult film Dellamorte Dellamore aka Cemetery Man starring Rupert Everett (who is said to have originally inspired the character’s look).
Personally, I’m a sucker for this kind of premise like I am for a raunchy road movie. And Routh deserves a cool rebound after scoring one of American cinema’s mega-star roles only to experience Singer’s epic vision hit its mark like a frog with one leg. On the other hand, Munroe still has something to prove. More on this project as it develops…

Looks Mignola-ish!

*CLARENCE* That cover was done by Mignola.
Rupert Everett is Dylan Dog. No one else. There is no reason why he shouldn’t be in it. Dylan Dog was based on Rupert.

if its based off rupert id like to see rupert, BUT…id really like to see routh’s career get moving. either way, give it an R rating and it sounds really cool. im a sucker for these premises as well,

Routh isn’t given enough credit. His Clark/Supes was wel done with the material he had to work with. An impressive follow up to Reeve and I’ll definitely be looking forward to that sequel. As for Dylan Dog? If they can make it as cool as that Mike Mignola drawing^^ go for it.

I hope to God, that he’s been using his unemployment time to take acting lessons.

I’m with Thats in his description of Brandon Routh, he did a remarkable job as Clark/Supes, though I was left disappointed, not by his performence but rather the story and the over-abundance of CGI. I would like to see him break out and star in different roles rather than be type-casted ala Dean Cain and be struck down by the Superman curse.
I’m all for giving the unknown comics a chance to strike it big and be noticed. This is a perfect role for both movie and actor to shine.

Weird that Cemetary man had anything to do with Dylan Dog?
But what I really care about is what does this mean for Gatchaman? If anything…

Yes Tiziano Sclavi (the author) asked to Claudio Villa (graphic) to get inspiration for Dylan Dog’ look from Rupert Everett.
Dellamorte Dellamore (Cemetery Man) is based on a previous Tiziano Sclavi’s novel entitled ‘Dellamorte Dellamore’, in which the main character is Francesco Dellamorte.
So Francesco Dellamorte could be considered the first Dylan Dog’s prototype but not really Dylan Dog, Dellamorte is very different from Dylan Dog, anyway after the success of Dylan Dog the novel ‘Dellamorte Dellamore’ was reprinted again and Francesco Dellamorte was designed very similar to Dylan Dog’s character on novel’s covers to help selling the book.
I like very much Dylan Dog ;),
Best Regards,
Marco Michele
