/Film reader Ignatius F informed me that a new photo has appeared on the old Cloverfield website 1-18-08.com. The photo is a Missing Flyer featuring “Teddy Hanssen last seen 12/07/2007”

Teddy Hanssen is the long-distance boyfriend of Jamie Lascano, a character who was featured extensively in the teaser trailer, but only seen in the film laying unconscious on the couch at the party. One of the viral websites, Jamieandteddy.com (password “jllovesth”), shows videoblogs made by Jamie talking about their relationship, which eventually turns sour. She was also revealed to be the roommate of Marlena. The couple met at a New York City club and dated briefly before Teddy left to go on a trip. In the fourth video, Jamie mentions ‘The Cause’ and says that Teddy can talk about it all he wants. In the fifth video, Teddy tells her that he’s been captured by ‘a company called Tagruato’, but she doesn’t believe him. Thinking that he was lying because he was seeing someone else, she dumped him. Included in that package was a small packet of something wrapped in silver foil with the note:
“Primary evidence. Freeze ASAP. Jamie, don’t eat this.”
Jamie later eat the contents of the packet mocking Teddy to her video camera in the eighth video posted on January 9th, less than a week before the Cloverfield Monster attacked New York City.

It’s also worth noting that the back of the new photo features a weird logo and number in the corner:

The same logo is featured on a label on the DVD release (photo via Bloody Disgusting):

What does this all mean? I’m not quite sure. No one at Paramount has any clue about the new 1-18-08.com viral. From what I understand, the whole thing has always been kept internally at Bad Robot. You would think this might just something Bad Robt planned to spark interest in the DVD release.
Some people are suggesting that this could have something to do with a possible Cloverfield sequel or the rumored to be JJ Abrams project codenamed ALADYGMA. But no one I know seems to know anything about that project, to the point that I’m not sure it even exists at all. I know that sequel talk was put on the backburner when the Cloverfield monster failed to have legs, but the film has done extremely well overseas. The movie opened in Japan this weekend, and while numbers are not yet available, I’m sure it will be popular in the land of Godzilla. Check out this cool graph from CloverfieldClues.

The Cloverfield Monster might not have legs, but it sure has a long tail (Cloverfield hit the $80,000,000 mark in the US after making $40 million in its first weekend, it has taken another 11 weeks to double that). The film has taken in over $158 million worldwide to date.
Discuss: Do you still want to see a Cloverfield sequel?

I believe I smell sequel characters.
April 7th, 2008 at 3:33 am
Is so then maybe they will explain what happens to humans when they get bit by the little guys.
The stuff in the silver pack is just Nesquik’s new flavor and they will kill to keep it secret =P

This photo surfaced a week ago
and Aladygma is proven to not be related to Cloverfield

Since the Uwe Boll post triggered the official start of “Give Peter Shit Day,” I’d like to note that the monster in this graph looks nothing like the Cloverfield monster.

Definitely still want to see a sequel but only if it repeats the same evening from a different point of view.
April 7th, 2008 at 5:32 am
A sequel is definitely a must for me. I really loved all the viral campaing, and it made me better appreciate the film’s caracters. At the theater, I was ecstatic when my friend noticed that the passed-out girl was Jamie… lol. The people not having seen the viral stuff before hand just didn’t notice her, and that gives us a whole different point of vue.
I will be keeping an eye on /Film to bring me all the latest in the changes made to the viral sites.
April 7th, 2008 at 5:34 am
@The Second: I agree there… we had the point of vue of normal everyday citizens that don’t know what the hell is going on… Maybe we now could have the POV of the army or any other important key player that are “in the know”, like the people of that earth-friendly organisation which name eludes me at the moment…
April 7th, 2008 at 5:54 am
Do you still want to see a Cloverfield sequel?
Hell, yeah.
April 7th, 2008 at 6:14 am
Sequel? count me in
following the viral campaign everyday was awsome
It was like a hobby
April 7th, 2008 at 6:30 am
Hell no! Die Cloverfield, die!
April 7th, 2008 at 8:08 am
I’d love to see a sequel, but they’re not going to change any opinions with the second. It was probably 50/50 with people who loved it and hated it, so I doubt they’d make half as much money unless there was some kind of second crazy mystery besides just an awesomely made movie.
April 7th, 2008 at 8:36 am
dont care if they make a sequel or not, but if they do, they need to stop with the bogus viral marketing.
srsly. ‘missing: some guy’ . long time boyfriend of some camwhore. = cloverfield 2 hype?
NO THNX
April 7th, 2008 at 9:11 am
bit slow here but yeah, tis intresting
April 7th, 2008 at 9:27 am
I enjoyed Cloverfield movie and marketing quite a bit, but I think if they do a “second point-of-view” sequel, it’ll play more like a remake of the first film than a continuance of the story.
Maybe this campaign will lead to another movie expanding the Cloverfield universe? Perhaps a side story with Tagruato, or a broader idea of the origin of the Monster? Maybe that chemical is the smoking gun?
April 7th, 2008 at 10:41 am
After I watched the movie I was kind of dissappointed. The story and the characters just didn’t hold up. plus I don’t like how following the viral campaign really didn’t shed any light on anything. Kind of wack. Did we forget that nobody even knows what this monster is or where it came from? I’ll just wait until the DVD comes out to find out and if not I’ll just read on wikipedia what happened.
April 7th, 2008 at 11:14 am
If its still alive and it is rampaging around the world then the second movie should follow either a group of survivors in a city like London or for once LA , let’s see that town in ruins or maybe the movie should follow the military’s efforts to destroy the creature let’s try a atom bomb this time, but all i know is there better be some kind of explanation for Chuai, falling satalites, and that manga on the DVD, but otherwise I enjoyed the first movie and Am interested in seeing a sequel, and its viral marketing, also anyone have aguess on how big the monster will be when it is full grown, since the director said the monster is a newborn at the time of the first film? All i can say if its big, big, big Godzilla is screwed.
April 7th, 2008 at 11:19 am
i would love to see a cloverfield sequel!! and if j.j. does make another i kinda hope they stay with the whole “cam” style, even though alot of people dont care for it. but people already compare this great movie to blair witch and if the next isn’t filmed like that then thats one more similarity between them, seeing as how thats what they did with blair witch 2…
April 7th, 2008 at 11:23 am
@ peter or anyone who knows
hey, is the idea/theory that someone ate that stuff then turned into the monster? thanks
April 7th, 2008 at 12:26 pm
I really like the idea of revisiting the same events from a new perspective. especially if they could somehow use the guy filming from the bridge that Hud sees, which has been tossed around as possible.
April 7th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
Doesnt anyone see that this is probably just to hype the DVD and probably trying to loosely explain where the monster came from. I think they may be worried that the DVD sales might not be as high as the ticket sales (laugh) so they are just drumming up a new viral campaign to get exeveryone wanting to see the DVD which will likely come in the typical flavors of Bare, Double, Walmart exclusive, Target Exclusive, and Bestbuys plastic wrapped bonus disc. While supplies last of course.

Nice discovery on the logo, it can also been seen on the top left corner on the flash website slusho.jp and I do no recall that being there prior to the release of Cloverfield in theatres. Hold on to your butts this is gonna be one wild ride!

i believe aladygma is a part of the loverfield
April 8th, 2008 at 11:47 pm
uhmm, first of all, the monster DID have legs, he had like six of ‘em(seen here
)
second, backburner sequel talk?
Abrams openly announced a sequel, from a different point of view.
and, the picture of the “weird symbol and number” is upside down.
The symbol appears to be something coiled on a spike, and the numbers are “#410″

sorry, the link to the picture is here.

New: Go to both sites look at wikipedia first(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amygdala) (amygdala=aladygma) and search amygdala without scrolling down to ur right u will see a picture of a brain and then on the bottom of that picture you will see a corpus striatum look at it then go to (http://slusho.jp or http://01-18-08.com) on the left u see a symbol zoom in really closely and u will see that it kinda looks like a corpus striatum and a sword
April 9th, 2008 at 9:42 am
@huge
good find, that’s pretty interesting. It seems less and less likely that this is just for the DVD release.
April 9th, 2008 at 12:33 pm
i smeel a PREQUEL
April 14th, 2008 at 2:52 pm
man this is gonna be awsome!!!!!
i think it is very unlikely that this is going to be for just the dvd.
i dont think any one would go through all this trouble to
hype up a DVD.no one would waste their time hyping up a DVD.
And it isn’t a rumor either about a sequel.JJ Abrams(GOD!)as openly stated that there is going to be a sequel and there is a very good chance it will be a view from a different camera on the same attack.
@ orange cinema
i agree with your though about Jamie eating the stuff and turning into a monster that would seem like a possibility. But, i think there is a better chance that she died though because Teddy said it was EVIDENCE. so him saying that makes me think that was evidence of the monster. But i think she EXPLODED like that girl in the first movie instead of actually turning into a monster
April 14th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
