Uwe Boll

Ladies and Gentleman, we finally have a chance to rid the cinematic world of a cancer. Uwe Boll, the German director behind such horrid video game adaptations as House of the Dead, BloodRayne, Dungeon Siege and Postal, has recently admitted that he would retire from making movies if enough people want him to stop. When FearNet mentioned to Boll a petition online signed by 18,000 people requesting that he cease making films, Boll responded that “18,000 is not enough to convince me.” So how much would be enough?

“One million,” Boll said. “Now we have a new goal.”

Indeed, now we have a goal. All we need is 980,000 more signatures on this petition and we can rid the world of future Boll-directed/produced cinematic atrocities. as my friend Scott Weinberg on Cinematical points out, Tunnel Rats, Far Cry, Zombie Massacre and BloodRayne 3 are already in production. So we might not be able to stop those productions. Be we just might have the ability to prevent a BloodRayne 4 or House of the Dead 3. So sign now!

This is childish. If you don't like his movies, the best way to petition is to just not see them. It's that simple.
  • Bill
signed, but i have a feeling he wont honor it if there are one million signatures.
  • roebert
Hey, dont sign to fast. i dont like his films too, but if we make him stop filming, he probably will find another hobby, that could maybe harm us more ... and besides, if he wont do films anymore, we wont have anything to laugh/cry/be upset about. and you know - he is insane - if there are a million people voting for this, he will understand it as a million people knowing/appreciate him

I've done my good for the world and signed the petition. Can we get this emailed around to other film sites so we've got the maximum chance of reaching the goal?
  • Graham
I would rather sign one to ban the meet the spartan date movie epic movie guys from ever touching a camera again
  • There's only a little over 19k! Where's the hate, folks?!

Lets sign a petition to get a group of kindergarteners the money and a crew of obedient slaves to make a movie instead.
  • Doobie
i dont understand why im not allowed to write anything negative in the comments section of your website but then you go ahead and endorse this petition...no he's not a good filmmaker and his movies are terrible but who are you guys to make him stop? if you dont like it so much dont see his movies...if nobody buys tickets he wont be allowed to...stop this nonsense, its childish and lame
  • Eric
It ISN'T Slashfilm who made the petition I believe doobie. I believe they just found it and the interview.
  • caketown
can we get a list going for Bret Ratner?!?!
  • Doobie
i never said slashfilm made the petition, i said they endorse it and are encouraging people to sign it

Um, no offense seriously you all. But like some of the people above me have said, this is kind of foolish. I whole heartedly love this site, but this is a little to much lol. I know his movies more then often tend to suck, but we are the people that really keep him in business. If you just dont go see his movies he wont be able make enough revenue and no one would let him make movies. As being fans of movies, you all should know, that it is kind of wrong to do that to the fans that do like his movies. What if someone decided to do that to a director that you loved? That would suck, and I know it is hard to believe but some people actually do like this guy lol. Plus, I think it is kind of selfish to take the man's job from him lol. But I will agree that his movies are not all that great. Just my two cents...... Anthony

    Doobie:

By the same token... I have recently tried to make several posts merely stating that Slash Film (Peter) is deleting posts that Slash Film (he) doesn't like. Where can I read "the rules" about what to post here so I know what is okay that I say, Peter?

Eric: He really was quite clear. You should read things more carefully before you attempt to correct others or provide a statement of your viewpoint.

    awesome?
  • peter: I have never deleted a comment based on a difference of opinion. We will delete antagonistic comments that contain only hate and no opinion/discussion. But even that is rare. It should be expected that any full on attacks towards another commentor or site writer will be deleted.

this is a mans passion were talking about it here! Why in the world would we want to stop him from being able to to what he loves? Even if his movies are bad, just imagine how good his biopic movie will be i.e Ed Wood. Just dont see the movies. Without bad movies in hollywood, how will we ever proctor what is good and bad? Watch interviews with him, he seems like a truly nice guy, I dont think its anyones place to repress to someone in this, or essentially any manner. Everyone here loves something, any the cynics do, this is where sympathy is born from, innately. Why cant we sympathize with him? What if peter was no longer allowed to have slashfilm.com, because millions of people sent hate mail to him, and started a petition online. I dont understand, why people arent able to put themselves in his shoes. What if people had never told us we couldnt do something? This concept maybe a little farfecthed to say, alot of art which is hated in a contemporary situation, is acclaimed in the future. This is an odd concept to apply with film, because relatively it has been around for so few years. But there are examples Ed Wood, Andy Worhal (sp?), THE WHOLE FRENCH NEW WAVE CINEMA, those movies are totally shit. But I like them, maybe thats because the subject matter is appealing to me being a young adult. I mean its bad to say that the new wave is shit, I know, because they were obviously functioning on a totally different level than Boll. They had things they wanted to talk about, or images the wanted to share. I dont know...I need to get back to my homework. I just urge people not to sign this petition.
  • Craig
I signed, but I bet he won't stop even if 1 million is reached. He'll probably say he was just joking and go on making crappy movies.
  • Captain Awesome
While we're at it. Can we create petitions to stop Kevin Smith and Diablo Cody from creating any furthur work?

    That's right...I said it.
  • the_tin_man
Sorry Peter, but whenever i post something disagreeing with Hunter it gets deleted. you should probably look into that.
  • Steelo
That's actually kinda sad. If you don't want them don't watch them. Don't ever let anyone tell you about yourself unless it inflicts on the lives of others. Somehow I doubt he's holding a gun to your head to watch his movies.

I lost faith in you Uwe. Sucky or not, I respect that you physically beat the crap out of critics.
  • GregoryV
wow. this is gonna be so easy.
  • tin man: did you attack him or did you intelligently express a differing opinion? (ie "your wrong and everyone hates you" or "I think you're wrong and here's why...")
  • Patrick
THANK GOD SOMEONE ENDED HIS REIGN OF TERROR, NOW FOR THE MILLIONS OF OTHERS!!!!
  • the_tin_man
i intelligently told him he was wrong and why i disagree with him and that he needs to learn how to write better because he comes off like an annoying douchebag.
  • Joe Newman
agree that its childish and not seeing his movies is more effective but I signed it anyway

we should just kill the parody movie guys

atleast Boll's movies have some funny moments though I would never fund any of them ever
  • the_thin_man
The problem with Uwe Boll is that he takes licenses that have potential and the churns out crap movies. After the success of the first Resident Evil the studio was able to rake in the money with sequels because it was half way decent and had a built in audience. With Uwe Boll films he basically alienates the built in audience that is a fan of the games simply because of his reputation for making crap.
  • Michael
Doobie: Boll keeps making films because he and his investors can write off financial failures under German tax law. The worse his films do, the better for him. Not buying tickets to his movies and not buying the DVDs would therefore not work at stopping him from making new films.
  • Tubman: no need for name calling... I'll look into it
  • Captain Awesome
    Michael,

That German Tax law loophole was done away with some time ago. People can only use that excuse for so long. He's used other investing groups to fund his films.

As much as I dislike him and his films. There's no need to sign a stupid online website to have the guy stop making his crap. Theres tons of creators from various mediums who continue to produce utter shit. I don't see you guys throwing up petitions for those people? That's the point of giving people creative freedom. It lets you compare and see what you like and what you don't. I don't need a group on the internet telling me what sucks. I know my personal tastes.

I'd sooner sign a petition to stop the guys who make those "step" films than I would Boll. You can't solve everything by signing it away.
  • Dan
    Put this on facebook
  • I dunno who this guy is, but sounds like he's a chump
  • ryberlynn
    in b4 sign
  • I dunno who this guy is but it sounds like I should avoid that at all costs
  • christian
i wish someone would make a poll to get rid of the directors of those "scary movie" and "super hero movie" shits
  • @thats (apr 6 11:56am)

Boll's movies have considered BOMBED at the box office, so not going to the movies is clearly not enough to get him to stop. If he's giving us an out, we have to take it!

Boll gave us an out before, by challenging people to knock him out in a boxing match... unfortunately, nobody beat him, so he went and made Postal. He must be stopped by all means!!!
  • Mike
I am not going to sign, I find his movies some of the most ridiculous I have ever seen, and I have seen all of them in theaters, video games dont make good movies in general I mean look at Doom and well every Video game movie, Mario brothers anyone. Any who if he wants to make movies let him, its his right, besides you don't like it don't see it.
  • Jeremy
signed. Sorry Boll, you lost today kid. But that doesn't mean you have to like it.
  • SIGNED. Quit now.
  • PuffyPuffy
What's so bad about his movies?
They are so terrible they're actually somewhat entertaining.
Honestly, the worst time at least I, could have watching a movie is if it's neither good nor terrible enough to be interesting in a bad kind of way.

I'd watch a Boll movie over your very average or pretty bad but not terrible releases like The Bucket list, or Hostel that constantly flood our screens any day.
  • afghani_stan
If only there were a petition I could sign to stop d-bags from posting articles online. Seriously, he likes directing, let him direct. There has never been a video-game movie that has been any good. Well, maybe 1. Also, a lot of German movies are terrible. This poor guy's just a product of his upbringing, lets not ruin his career. I mean, Oliver Stone is still allowed to make movies, right?
  • As much as I don't appreciate Boll's movies, signing a petition doesn't guarantee him stopping — he could break his word. Furthermore, it looks like it's just a grab for attention... which you'd be giving to him by signing a petition about him.
  • Mike
Cmon, those were really bad scripts to begin with. Not everybody can be a Spielberg.

Now if this was a Michael Bay petition, I'd be going door to door to collect signatures.
  • Mike
This guy earns top-dollar by making sub-par movies that only because they exploit well established intellectual properties and a lot of people, including myself, have a problem with that.

Sure we can all not choose not to watch his movies. However, you can't solve every problem by just being passive. That's like saying if you have a problem with child pornagraphy, just don't watch it and it will go away. For the people who are fed up enough to do something about it, simply deciding to not watch his movies will not do be sufficient, there are still those other millions of people who just go and see movies not knowing who the directors are or if the movie will be entertaining or not. They might think, "hey this trailer looks pretty neat, maybe the movie is just as good" or "I've played that video game and it was great, that must mean the movie is good".

A lot of people don't know what to fully expect and they shouldn't have to as long as they feel entertained by the end of the movie. The problem is, that's not what is happening here.

    1. Man consistently over-charges for a poor quality service (i.e. crappy movies) 2. People get really fed up
    3. Man loses his ability to provide such a service
    4. Justice is served and the people rejoice.
  • Nick Roney
Im just kind of curious though, this guy has to get good right? He has to make at least one good movie, doesnt he? After all that time spent on making films, he would finally have to make one. arent you curious what that film would be? If a million is reached we'll never find out.
