Sad but true: Universal Pictures has plans for two more Mummy sequels. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor star Maria Bello told MTV: “I don’t know when, but it’s going, [There will] absolutely be The Mummy 4.” Bello revealed that she is already signed on for a whole new trilogy, if Universal wanted to make one.
Sequel options have become to be a standard in most big budget production, so it’s not exactly a definite. So it all depends on just how much money Tomb of the Dragon Emperor makes when it is released in August (which if I had to guess, I would say more than enough).
Discuss: Do we really need even more Mummy sequels?

Im a big fan of the Mumy movies and wouldnt mind seeing a few more of them. If a movie is enough to keep me interested for a couple hours, then i dont mind a studio spending 150 million bucks on it. In fact, let me say thank you to them. Nobody else is spending 150 million dollars for me to have something to watch for 2 hours.

I’ve always loved the Mummy movies, even way back with the old black and white original, so I’m a bit biased when I say I’m excited that we’ll get a whopping five Mummy movies.

Just as the next article advocates new entries into the survival horror genre, I’d certainly look forward to any new additions to the “pulp adventure-archeologic-treasure hunting” genre.
3 words: skeleton sword fighting.
Indiana won’t live forever, and like them or not, films such as The Mummy and the National Treasure-s have done very well and there is an audience that wants to see this stuff. A case can be made that The Davinci Code fits into the same style.
Sort of off subject, but…there was amazing opportunity with the Lara Croft character. Unfortunately, those films took the “techno road”. I’d invest great hope in having that character revived with a more serious tone or…perhaps, they could do Lara Croft in her original form - animated (ala Appleseed EM).

oh wait…
Rob Cohen.
Please, stop this.

Yeah I loved the mummy movies, I wouldn’t mind seeing another Trilogy.. in fact I’m liking the whole ‘ lets make movies in threes ‘ .. Fair enough they make more money, but hey .. I don’t care!

I never had any serious problem with the mummy movies. Only bad thing that I can say about the mummy returns was that there was too many comedy gags and CGI, it being a second film it should have been much darker. But you can’t tell hollywood shit. But I’ll still see the third like everyone else.

I think far too many people are looking far too deeply into movies, searching for some sort of Academy-worthiness or indie-substance in every movie. In reality, as long as I’m entertained, I don’t care if the acting is sub-par or Daniel Day-Lewis caliber. I don’t care if it’s Spielberg or Michael Bay. It just doesn’t matter, as long as I’m entertained. There are too man
However, that doesn’t mean I won’t praise and/or complain about stuff.
I think that the first couple Mummy flicks were good and wouldn’t mind seeing more. But, I’ll take them on a film by film basis and not make generalizations about all of them.
Reason: I thought the Scorpion King was going to be good. Whoops.

Apparently, “There are too man” was going to be a sentence. But, I really don’t know what it was supposed to say. haha.

Skimming through repsonses, I think i saw that someone had actually compared The Mummy series to the Indiano Jones series. I lol’d because sometimes my mind plays tricks on me….
March 11th, 2008 at 9:46 am
No comparisons were made. Perhaps, you should practice reading comprehension skills before you attempt skimming.
March 11th, 2008 at 11:05 am
Great thanks for the clarification. Jus don’t ever mention the two again in the same sentence agian.
Also, when reading comments I tend to shy away from any type of meaningful comprehension because sometimes it’s not worth reading every rediculous comment. Like your next comment, I probably won’t even read it.
To make another point, Indiana will live forever. He drank from the Cristo cup in Last Crusade dummy. That makes him immortal. Senior’s area around his gunshot wound will live forever as well.
Cheers!

jeesh-
way to suck all the potential drama out of Indy 4. I want my future money back :)

I’ll save my thoughts on whether I’d like to see further Mummy adventures after I see what Rob Cohens handy work brings us.
Since someone did bring up Indiana Jones, just curious, did anyone else out there think that the sets looked like (gasp!) sets? They were just so poorly lit in the trailer. Which is odd ‘cos with the evolution in technology and, i believe, set making, I would’ve expected them to look atleast on par with the sets in Temple of Doom.
Yes, I thought the trailer was poorly put together but I’ll still catch it first day, first show ‘cos I’m a sucka like that.

No More Sequels!!
March 11th, 2008 at 6:51 pm
The mummy movies rock my life
March 12th, 2008 at 5:27 am
Considering how bad Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor is going to be, its a bit premature for Maria Bello to cry more sequels.
March 12th, 2008 at 7:48 am
I want my mummy!
March 12th, 2008 at 9:50 pm
What’s up with all the haters? It looks good enough to me! And like people said, I’m not looking for something profound, just 2 hours of good entertainment, which I definitely found in the first two.
On a side note, the Mummy ride at Universal Studios is amazing.

TO THE JEZZUS : If you are such a indiana jones advocate, you would know that the “invincibility” last only in the cave the grail was in. Try getting your info strait
March 20th, 2008 at 4:47 pm
well. nobody forced you to see Mummy sequels. You can go shopping or doing what you like.
April 13th, 2008 at 5:57 pm
I am hesitant about getting excited for these sequels without Rachel Weisz. Wasn’t she wanting to do them and just wasn’t available, so they went with Maria Bello? Why? She looks like she should be Evie’s older sister or something.
April 21st, 2008 at 6:01 pm
I was happy as hell when I heard of a sequal to the Mummy Returns…
Until I heard about Rachel Weisz not returning as the oh-so-important role of the wife. Man, she was a keyfabe MILF…
That is plain bollocks. Now some ugly ho is taking over.
Goddamn it all to hell.

I was so so so very excited to see this movie. But the second I found out Rachel Weisz wasn’t going to be in it, I was like “Oh hell no”. The movie just isn’t going to be the same for me. If it’s good or not =/
June 3rd, 2008 at 2:02 pm
i really love mummy 1 and 2 but i think it will go like the latest indiana jones movie just be totaly pointless, i mean its been 20 years since the last indiana movie and about 10 since the last mummy one the gap is just to big!! and now ive heard that Rachel Weisz isnt going to be in it i just think that it wont be the same
June 9th, 2008 at 5:44 pm
