Scrat is going back in time, or at least that is the only probable explanation for the third film in the Ice Age series, which is titled ICE AGE: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. That’s right, Dinosaurs! I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died off before the Ice Age which means that, well, something is up. Yorrick Brown on the JoBlo message boards has a photo (seen above) from Showest of 20th Century Fox’s official standee for the upcoming computer animated sequel.
ICE AGE: Dawn of the Dinosaurs hits theaters on July 1st 2009.
Discuss: With or without dinosaurs, do we really need a third Ice Age movie?

No, I dont think we do.
Looks like its going to be the next ‘land before time’ franchise.
I hate to get technical, but i dont think a T-rex could eat a mammoth in a mouthful….

I love ice age and am glad to see a third one. But i got 4 kids so it keep them busy for a couple hours a day, every day for a couple weeks once dvd comes out.
Kids have threatened me with a lawsuit if i put Shrek in the dvd player one more time. :(

The first one was excellent. The second sold out - it had a hip-talking female mammoth ffs.
Scrat was an excellent addition to the first film, but over-used in the second. If the third film is all about him, then there’s little chance that it’ll be any good.
First film is original. Second exaggerates and extends the good parts and the premise of the original. The third does the same with the second film and it loses all the charm. Take Alien 3, Shrek 3, Godfather 3, Terminator 3…

I officially give up on Hollywood.

I liked the first Ice Age too … when it still was original. Then the second came, which was still ok, but … a second one. And now a third? I don’t think making a sequel or third movie is adviced when it’s not planned from the beginning. When you start with the idea of telling a story in 3 parts, that’s fine with me. But when you decide to make a next movie about the same characters but with another plot that you have to create around them, than I don’t think it’s a good idea.

See I liked the second one better than the first even. So I am kinda wanting to see the 3rd. I was a fan of Land Before Time until it hit like 6 or 7. But then again I grew up with them so who knows.
March 9th, 2008 at 6:33 am
No. No we do not. I didn’t even bother with the second film.

A “franchise” employs artists and animators - and that alone is a great thing. You have to commend Blue Sky on it’s growth as a major player in the animation world. That sort of thing is great to see.

I liked the first one a lot.
Second one was mediocre.
I hope this third movie is better than ice age 2 but ya i don’t understand the dinosaur thingy. I bet they have thrown the history stuff out of the gate. You see this is an animated movie so you can pretend anything.

Ya gocitizen it is good to see other animated houses being a major player in animation other than pixar and dreamworks. Aradman is awesome too but unfortunately they have delivered big flops so you cannot consider them a big player.
I liked both ice age and robots. Although ice age was better in terms of storytelling. Robots animation was visually amazing and of pixar standards. Ice age 2 was a big improvement in terms of animation compared to 1st ice age but had mediocre story and was kinda dumb.

It might just be a thawed dino. In the first film I believe the main characters pass by some frozen dinosaurs in an underground cavern.

oh my gosh no way Ice Age 2 was hilarious. I really liked it. I don’t mind Ice Age 3 at all.

I stand by my No More Sequels position.
March 9th, 2008 at 12:48 pm
I have a friend who works for Blue Sky, he started working there on Robots and has been there ever since. He’s said good things about the movie so far. I don’t mind, mainly because it keeps him employed. :)

Do we need another Ice Age movie? Maybe, maybe not. But the real question is do we need another Saw movie? The answer to that question is NO.
March 9th, 2008 at 1:40 pm
Ice age is a one trick pony…and that ponies name is scrat.
I’m not interested….
I foresee they’re gonna beat this franchise to death till we see Ice age 9: The fossils.
Frankly I’m more interested in seeing the Madagascar sequel thats taking forever to come out.

Whoa! I know animated movies take some time but July 2009?! That’s over a year away? Why start promoting it now?
March 9th, 2008 at 2:43 pm
Scrat and the sloth character proved to be the best characters from the first film. The second film was really flat. But again, one thing I like is Blue Sky’s character animation for the likes of Scrat. It’s better to me than Pixars, even though pixar tends to have prettier “effects” and 3d engines.
Blue Sky just gives their work more of a 2d, Tex Avery punch I want to see more of.

Remind me of this…

As long as it’s not the next Shrek 3 you can count me in. I’ve enjoyed both the movies.
March 9th, 2008 at 10:20 pm
i think it means even more anachronisms than no country
March 10th, 2008 at 12:39 am
I’m leaning toward the thawed dino storyline, with title being a ‘Dawn of the Dead’ reference. Just a guess. But think about it…

ME want more Ice Age movies and Scrat movies and should make 2 more movies after the third like Shrek and Like me, there’s more pokemon movies coming and Me am very happy about that!!!!
June 30th, 2008 at 1:30 am
I think this third one is going to fall way short of everyone’s expectations. I liked Ice Age 2 better than the first one so I am looking forward to a third. Does anyone else think the second was better than the first? Anyway, I probably only liked the second one because Manny is my fav. character and he was in it more.
And whats with all the trailers being about Scrat? Not a single trailer has ever included all the characters! And again, Ice Age 3 would be A LOT better if people didn’t have to ponder about dinosaurs being in the ice age. Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs is an illogical title.
One more thing. Did you notice how half the creatures changed into different ones in the second ice age? They like added beaver-things and duck-things. Was it to be more creative or was Bluesky being sued for copied creatures? Hmm…

i would love to see a ice age 3!
