Do you remember where you were and who you were with last June when The Sopranos went out with a (non) bang? Might one of the all time quizzical endings lead to a new beginning (perhaps an even greater one?), as rumors are coming in today that a theatrical movie is in the works. One Nick D’Urso, manager of the Satin Dolls strip club in North Jersey, which served as the infamous Bada Bing strip club in the show, says he received a call, possibly from HBO, telling him not to do any renovations to the club in lieu of an upcoming Sopranos movie.
“I got an inside tip that they’re going to do a movie, so I don’t want to make any major changes,” D’Urso said Wednesday. “I’m not going to reveal my sources, but we got a call from somebody (working) on the script.”
HBO apparently had no comment regarding D’Urso’s claim. Supporting the possibility of a movie is arguably the show’s most well known fan, Soprano Sue, who had this to say…
“As soon as the finale ended, I got a call from somebody on the crew who said, ‘We’re going to make a movie,’” she said, adding, “You can tell just by looking at the series finale.”
Gotta love her. I understand why naysayers don’t want a continuance to the series. The ending was pretty, well, beautiful and right, and remains so. It made grown men cry to the sounds of Journey in front of their gals. Television shows like AMC’s Breaking Bad (which is excellent) and Showtime’s Weeds (which is pretty good, if bi-polar) have respectably taken up the lonely realism of David Chase’s legendary, landmark series, and an epic movie runs the risk of being The Godfather 3, but I’ll take that risk. In hectic times, we need these hectic characters and awesome relationships to return.
Discuss: Would Big T on the big screen betray the finale? Can David Chase reinvent the movie like he did with TV?

I suspect David Chase is unhappy with the reception of his finale. I think he’ll take another crack at it with a movie.
Plus, how often does Hollywood have a sure thing? A Sopranos movie is a pretty good bet in an industry where “nobody knows nothin.”

I drive past Satin Dolls everyday on my way to work!
LOL never thought it would be referenced on slashflim…
but anyway
I would love to see a Sopranos movie
although I have since settled on the finale, and im not sure I want my interpretation of that squandered…
March 6th, 2008 at 9:11 pm
i was just glad to find out i wasnt the only one who thought satellite went down at the end of finale. LOL

The finale was shocking - but utterly genius.
I remember my exact reaction:
“What is Tony doing in that diner - oh, look out - nope, nothing there - then –
BLACK.
Seriously. It was hilarious, but completely out of the blue.

As much as I would like to see more of the Sopranos, I’m don’t think a movie is a good idea.
The blackness at the end of the series, for me, meant the death of Tony Soprano. They were discussing it with Bobby in the first episode of the final season. How you don’t hear or see anything when somebody kills you. That was the perfect ending for the series, as it was always centered on Tony.
And further, with characters such as Cristophuh, Bobby, Phil and others gone, with who are we left with?
Ofc there’s the possibilty of a prequel, but that would probably suck also..
I don’t want a movie. I want other HBO shows to return (Carnivale, Deadwood) or for them to start making Song of Ice and Fire series.
March 7th, 2008 at 3:40 am
I loved The Sopranos but I kind of agree with CerpinTaxt. How the how are they going to do this? If they do it after the fact, there isn’t any interesting characters left. And the prequel shit has to stop, so I hope that never happens.
God, I wish HBO would stop being fucking assholes and just bring back Carnivale’ and finish off Deadwood properly. Carnivale was getting so good and they castrated it before it had its full-blown legs. After The Wire wraps up this weekend, there isn’t anything of interest for me on HBO other than the new project The Wire creators are working on, about the Iraq War.

why did this article use the oldest possible picture of the cast?
March 7th, 2008 at 10:51 am
Hate to disappoint you SOPRANOS fans but this is coming from HBO: don’t know how the rumor got started but there is no repeat NO SOPRANOS movie in the works.
Sorry!
March 9th, 2008 at 12:42 am
the series finale was beautiful, sad, perfect…but i don’t know if i’d ever shy awat from a chance to see the gang - whats left - together again. plus, if the movie wasn’t spectacular, it’d take away from the shows ending perfection.
March 14th, 2008 at 5:39 pm
It would be great, but theres nobody left. Christopher, bobby, Johny sack, Phil, Uncle Juniors sick. Unless Tony wakes up from a dream

I have a love/hate thing about the ending of S6… took me days to truly appreciate it… and while it would be really difficult to find another ending now, I’m addicted to this show. Bring it on, anything. I want more. I don’t care if its as lame as the Kevin Finnerty episodes. Just do it.
And about the time which has passed since the final scene, well, Tony could start S7 coming out of prison 5 years later, ready to settle scores and take back what is his… yeah there’s some corpses around, but like the mob, new blood can come through the ranks…
April 4th, 2008 at 5:23 am
making a sopranos is gonna be right but if u made 1 from when tony was a kid seeing his dad chopping that guys finger off tony going to prison it could be the next goodfellas
April 6th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
….I wish they didn’t kill of christopher though if a movie does happen, and is if there is a movie!!!!! it would be good to finally know what happens with tony and his family at the diner…..But who knows what will happen…….My guess is as good as anyone’s….Just make the movie………..One other thing if so don’t kill off tony or anyone else from his mob, just the other mobs……….
They are making the sex in the city movie…….wow….WE need a soprano’s movie now………
April 11th, 2008 at 3:11 pm
David Chase left the movie up for too much interpretation. I think a movie would give closure to the characters. It might also put an end to these types of blogs! Not saying anything bad about anybody here, but it appears many people who watched the show needs closure as well. Including myself!
April 17th, 2008 at 12:14 am
The thing about David Chase is that the Sopranos was founded on stories with no closure. You always wanted to see the next episode for closure which half the time you did not get. Chase was trying to show you the realism of life, i.e you drive by a car crash but don’t end up hearing who died.
I personally don’t think Chase would do a movie. However I would absolutely love it if he did. The problem is, how to do such a movie without it sucking. I mean right now Soprano’s is a legend, why would you want to even try and stick your foot in the water and hope that is is warm if your already comfortable.
I think this strip club owner is full of shit trying to get the actual name of his club out, because I never knew what it was before and when I do my NY trip I will be stopping by to check it out.
Which brings up yet another point, if someone said “Hey dude we want to film in your strip club again, don’t change anything. How does $20,000 a day rent sound as long as you don’t open your big fat mouth”
Would you really go to the press opening your big fucking mouth about it or would you shut up and take the cash, this guy is full of shit trying to get publicity in my opinion. But who knows, I do hope for a movie but have a bad feeling that it could not end well, I.E
Leave Sopranos talking about what they think happen to Tony for the rest of their lives
or
Give them a movie that finally ends it and it will be forgotten about in 5 years.
If I was a major Director I would be sitting on my ass laughing that people like me were wasting my time on some blog typing this shit while getting a blow job from a portuguese prostitute!

Hey Lyndon
Ohhhhhhh!! who you callin’ full of shit ?

Make the god damn movie that ending was wack!
May 9th, 2008 at 2:11 pm
a sopranos movie is in the works, i know people who work for hbo and they told me that it is def in the works, that is if gandolfini accepts the script.
May 23rd, 2008 at 12:19 am
There will be a movie. And in it I will be introduced, and it will bring the Sorpanos to the Windy City with connections here. I am the love of Tony’s life and his girlfriend in Chicago. I am unlike his other gfs, depressed and much like his mother. They will use past reflections to bring me into script, and b/c of me Tony will develop some minor business in Chjicago. He and Carmela divorce after the kids are gone, and we will be together, elope in Mexico, and I will give birth to a son to him. He will be astonished at being a father at 48. The future of the Sopranos lives on in our son’s strong will….

WHETHER THEY MAKE THE MOVIE OR NOT THE SHOW IS THE GREATEST BUT IF THEY DO I DOUBT THAT’LL SUCK WITH ALL THE QUESTIONS THAT THEY LEFT UNANSWERED
May 26th, 2008 at 1:49 am
I said to the first other Soprano fan I knew that the ending was left open intentionaly for a movie. MAKE THE MOVIE!
June 2nd, 2008 at 10:14 pm
I hope they make a movie. The ending of the show was absolutely terrible and a Cop out in my opinion. It was rushed. About a week ago, a article listed The Sopranos as one of the all tiem worst endings in T.V history…….
David Chase must ended it right…Either Tony dies, or he goes to prison…I will be waiting.

I’m ambivalent to the idea of a The Sopranos movie. I made an interpretation of how the finale ended and I am happy with it.
However…
If a movie were to be done, the storyline should center around Tony’s unsettled beef with the Russian mafia. Further, maybe Tony is feeling more pressure from the feds (indictment and trial), and while this all happens, he reaches out to Furio to make amends (or, more logically, Furio could come back to Tony while he’s facing the heat).
With Furio back in the fold, it’ll rekindle the interest between he and Carmela, which would be a pretty damn good backdrop if you ask me.
Russians + Indictment + Furio/Carmela Romance = Box Office Smash
And, once and for all, we’ll finally get this answer to this question…
What happened to the Russian???

Although i didnt watch sopranos on tv when it was released, i watched it on dvd seasons 1-6 pretty much back to back, when it ended i actually thought there was something wrong with my dvd player so i downloaded it, but it was the same. i started thinking, and i thought damn that was a good ending. it shows you that T’s life would never be normal, it puts you in Tony’s position everytime someone walks through the door they could be an assassin or even the feds. it also goes back to where in the last season there was talk about no one knows when their time is (death). so i think it was a good ending and it was different, but also from a movie perspective’s point of view the writers made a totally open ending, the movie could have many different story lines without being tied down because of the finale. My theory was that it was meadow but tony will always be looking over his shoulder, and that any film should not involve tony being prosecuted by the feds because i think he’d rather die or run then be in jail like Jonny sack. i’m babbling on now, so yea the movie is definatly a possibility, i hope they do one!!!!! and if they need anyone for a character im always here, maybe T’s long distant cousin who runs the london streets. lol

It’d be great if there were a Sopranos Movie? The ending to the TV show was horrible, etc.

I Hope They Make That Movie The Ending Of The Season Finale Stunked
June 29th, 2008 at 1:31 pm
A sopranos movie would make a lot of money, so I’m sure HBO is pulling for it. Personally I think it would soil the phenominal ending delivered by chase and crew. I love the charectors and the scenarios. I pictured the ending a thousand different ways before it was shown and none of them were what the ending was. It was a great ending because it was open, you can still discuss it with your friends and come up with stuff, if the movie comes out it will, unintentionally, betray the show that could be one of the greatest mafia medias you will see. Keep it what it is.

Meadow’s hot!
July 7th, 2008 at 8:35 am
In my opinion the ending was a perfect fit. I read a couple of articles that explained what Chase was striving to do. He basically wanted the black out that occured at the finale to be like the camera shutting off. Essentially we got to see how tony lives his life but it cannot go on forever.
July 13th, 2008 at 2:00 pm
no freakin movie. that’s just ridiculous. yeah, the last scene was gimmicky; f’ing with our heads with a paranoia that was not one of tony’s traits (then again, maybe they weren’t feeding us paranoia, maybe tey were showing the constant and normal state of awareness of his surroundings that tony lived in - still gimmicky.) i like to think that he got killed in that diner, like that guy said up there, they set it up in the first episode of the season with the characters talking about how when you die you don’t see it coming: there’s just sudden blackness - not even music with the rolling credits. foretelling his demise earlier on, they even gave us tony’s dreams of how his life could’ve been something else. all the filler about carmella, a.j., etc. was telling us to move on, get ready for a “nothing to see here.” it was true to real life, like the show had always been (with the giant exception that i always thought that tony was one hell of a nice guy for being a mafia boss.)
good god, man, it’s been a year and i still have to try and not expect or anticipate a movie. what the f would the movie be without uncle jun? or the expected heir to the throne, christopher? big pussy? i like sylvio but i think he should die in the hospital. i guess they could have flashbacks of livia. what, would they try to bring deniro and pesci into it? i like to think and hope that david chase would not permit a movie. hahaha that club owner promoting his business… i’d do the same if i was him
July 19th, 2008 at 1:24 pm
I feel let down by the ending i understand the meaning of it but i would love to see move i think christopher was the best in the show, i heard storys of them making series on tony’s father jonny but how true this is i dont know. i miss it i loved seeing adverts all week leading up to the show on thursday’s. I dont think tony die’s DONT STOP BELVIEING.
