When Michel Gondry introduced the idea of sweding to the masses in (or to the few people who saw) Be Kind Rewind, I expected a big response on YouTube of fans recreating their favorite movies. And that has happened, but one thing I never expected has started. I always believed the point of sweding movies was to pick a big budget action film, because it would force your hand creatively to try to reproduce the big budget visuals n a pocket change scale.
But people have begun to swede smaller films, like Fox Searchlight’s Once. And somehow it still works. There is something charming about this sweded trailer, even without all the expected cardboard cut out visuals. Check it out after the jump.

the gondry sweded films take themselves & the films they parody seriously - and its the heart and lack of perfect story memory that make them funny. this is more in the vein of that current fad where any kind of pop reference is supposed to be funny, more along the lines of that epic/date movie style. it takes alot of talent to be funny, these folks dont got it, and neither do the two guys who make those spartan/epic/date movies. i really cant stand those two, and hate that they are lucky enough to be making films.

The original film WAS sweded lol - there isn’t really any need to make it simpler

Hey Orange Cinema, whether or not you found this funny, the statement “… hate that they are lucky enough to be making films.” is borderline facist, and destroys what little credibility you may have had in this unrestricted and virtually anonymous comment.

rol2dub, yes i absolutely hate what bol & the epic movie guys are doing to modern comedy and filmaking in general. especially when superior films like ‘once’ don’t get nearly as much exposure or budgeting. does that make me a fascist? nah. but you might want to look up fascism since you clearly don’t know what it means, and also avoid immediately resorting to name calling since it “destroys what little credibility you may have had in this unrestricted and virtually anonymous comment”.
