If you’re asking who Taylor Kitsch is and why he’s got dibbs on playing Gambit, one of the most anticipated and liked X-Men ever, check out the following YouTube interview to get a nice idea of his mannerisms and his voice. My knee-jerk reaction was disappointment, but he seems like he could be a good fit, no? For a relative unknown? Others will know Kitsch from his role as Tim Riggins on the TV show Friday Night Lights and the one guy out there will cry “he was in Renny Harlin’s The Covenant and he was totes awesome.”

According to SHH, Kitsch will make his first appearance as the ragin’ Cajun mutant in Gavin Hood’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and the actor signed a three-picture deal, apparently to star as the character in future films. Known for his knack of channeling kinetic energy into playing cards that glow pink like Pop Rocks and are thrown at many a foe, Gambit also brandishes a bō staff like TMNT’s Donatello, has flamboyant style, and a shady attitude carried over from his years as a thief. Some comic fans passionately appeal that he’s a one-note D-bag who tries too hard to awe the guys and gals like David Blaine.

Yesterday, we laid out a smorgasbord of casting news for Wolverine, including news via AICN that Ryan Reynolds will play Deadpool in the film, as well as an expected appearance of lardy villain The Blob. It’s beginning to feel like Wolverine is throwing a block party and purposely didn’t tell his fellow X’ers. And we’re starting to see why Hugh Jackman is so happy-go-lucky about the project’s potential for mega-success.

Discuss: Is Taylor Kitsch (great last name, btw) worthy of playing Gambit? And are you worried that the Origins part of the film will be overshadowed by cameos and the Spider-Man 3 curse of villain-overload?

    RIGGINS! Tim RIGGINS!

“There are times when a man has to ask himself WWRD? What would Riggins do?”

    Wow! Great stuff!

Respect to Marvel, they’re getting their money

    What about Sawyer! Josh Holloway!

    Way better imo.

While I like the idea of Josh Holloway, Kitsch is a fantastic choice. That kid was one of the best things about FNL. Unfortunately, I’d have to guess this doesn’t bode well for a FNL return.

I’m sure people will bash me for this but… I actually always pictured Jean Claude Van Damme for the role of Gambit. This has been since long before there was ever an X-Men movie. I also thought Patrick Stewert would’ve been the best choice for Xavier. Oh wait. Turned out that actually happened.

    Yees! Tim Riggins!
He’s perfect imo. But it really makes me nervous to hear about a new cameo in that Wolverine movie ever goddamn day! If that goes on, we’ll have 150 characters in the flick and Hugh Jackman’s only appearance is in fact that photo we’ve seen already. I’d be really mad about that…

P.S. I guess that’s the last nail in FNL’s coffin, right? Damn you NBC…

while I am bummed that FNL is ending… like extremely bummed… I just watched disc one of season one last night….for the 4th time

I am glad that Street [Scott Porter] is in Speed Racer, and Minka Kelly is now known as John Mayer’s galpal..and hot!!!

BUt yay for Riggs. He may not ever get Lyla because Jesus won her over but at least he gets the ever awaited role of Gambit!!!!!!! EVeryone has been waiting for this moment forever… this role will surley launch him into stardom

Whew, this is going to suck - sorry but there’s just too many characters. The movie should be about Logan, Creed and Stryker… I don’t understand their thinking here.

In order to have the Weapon-X program an integral part of the movie they are going to need to show the other people that were in it with Logan like Deadpool and Sabertooth. Then you have to realize that the X-men universe is so intertwined that it is a perfect opportunity to get a few guys a couple minutes of screen time here so they can establish that universe on the big screen with all these other movies proposed.

Gambit was always one of my favorite mutants out of the plethora of characters in the Marvel Universe. While I don’t know who this guy is (I don’t watch FNL), from what I’ve YouTube’d in the last 5 minutes, I’m confident he’ll pull it off just fine and has potential to really be a scene-stealer simply for the character he’s playing. While I think the actor who plays Sawyer in Lost would have been a good choice, he’s too charasmatic to play a character who has always been known for being mysterious and shady.

    Spider-man 3 curse?! what!?!

    batman and robin imo

Yeah, would have liked to see Josh Holloway as Gambit, but TK is a strong second choice. Did Holloway ever get a look-see for the role?

  14. Gravatar

I agree that Josh Holloway is a better actor than Taylor Kitsch, but he’s not the right age. If they plan on introducing Remy/Gambit in the X-men franchise and coupling him with Rogue (who is Anna Paquin remember?) he’s got to be a decent age i.e. Taylor Kitsch’s age. Plus, Anna Paquin as Rogue is quite disappointing so it makes sense to me if we have a Gambit that’s a little disappointing as well.

MY GOD! Why not JOSH HOLLOWAY????? It’s Sawyer from the show ‘LOST’ and he’s friggin PERFECT for the role. I mean MY GOD he even has the ACCENT!!!!! As for the age idk maybe in a couple of movies from now he could play the older version??? I still think, including the age issue, that Holloway would be the best. It’s like he’s perfect for the role

No way! Harry Connick Jr. should’ve been considered for this part. I know there are some terrible rebuttles out there but just give it some real thought. Check out my facebook group for it. Gambit in X4.
