The following illustrations by artist Andrey Kuznetsov envision Hollywood blockbusters as Russian folk fairy tales. I was going to label them all, but thought, why not see how fast our readers can figure them out? To make things easier, we’ve numbered each illustration, so answer them in the comments accordingly.

February 19th, 2008 at 11:29 am

These all have years listed on them. It’s not older movies like Dances with Wolves or anything, they are all from 2003 or later. The star wars one has to be attack of the clones.
February 19th, 2008 at 12:01 pm
This drawings were made in style of peoples printings from the 17th century, written in Old Russian. This style is called “Lubok”. (My girlfriend does also same paintings for money, she’s russian).
1- War of the Worlds
2- Anaconda?
3- Couldn’t identify, but, it’s about printing books with dirty contents. Over the grandma it’s written “holly simplicity” for someone with a lot of ingeniousness.
4- Harry Potter
5- Couldn’t guess, but it’s about Van Damme getting drunk and fighting against his own double. The erased part it’s about he doing the splits on two chairs, he plunges his (erased) Johnson into the earth, being pinned to it.
6- The Lord of the Rings
7- That’s Crocodile Gena a typical Russian puppet animation film character, it’s written that he’s wearing a German hut.
8- Matrix
9- That’s Tchiborashka, Crocodile Gena’s friend.
10- Spiderman
11- Couldn’t guess, but it’s written about someone who came to sell crap and stuff (drugs?) from oversee to the little town, but the people answered that they don’t need this, cause they are happy with their beer.
12 - The Terminator (2)
13 - Dunno, but it’s somehow written that he bought all this technical things and doesn’t know where to put the Memory Stick.
14- Star Wars
15- Couldn’t guess, it’s about a Harley Davidson driver that bought a German helmet (Prussian style) and leather pants with silver buckles, and stole the wolfs tail. To calm the wolfs pain he gave him beer.
February 19th, 2008 at 12:07 pm
Bill, I think the year indicates when the piece of art was made, not necessarily the year of the film…
Beowulf is a good guess for 15, but I’m sticking with Dances With Wolves… LOL
February 19th, 2008 at 12:08 pm
to add onto my list from above… #9 Lilo and Stitch
February 19th, 2008 at 12:09 pm

#2 is definitely Anacondas: Hunt for the Blood Orchid. That’s an orchid in the guy’s hand and the lead female was blonde. Yes, not a LOTR-size blockbuster, but there it is.
February 20th, 2008 at 4:33 pm

February 26th, 2008 at 1:23 am
All this Orchid talks make me think that #2 is Adaptation.
February 26th, 2008 at 1:59 am
This is all too easy if you know Russian culture, but did you know that Tchiborashka “#9″ was the inspiration for Pokemon. And what about all the other Russian fairy tales like Buratino (Russian Pinocchio) and the Russian version of Winnie Pooh and Carlson and Nu Pogodi and Chipolino (which was also the inspiration for VeggieTales) and the classics like Ruslan and Ludmila and The Snow Maiden and Swan Lake and The Nut Cracker. God….The list can go on forever, Russia is the King of fairy tales, the United States can’t even compare.

Also they’re all Hollywood Blockbusters. He might have used Russian Characters, for example 9, but the answer is still gonna be a Hollywood Blockbuster, Like King Kong rather than Tchiborashka
February 26th, 2008 at 9:24 pm

http://www.hiero.ru/Akuaku/Lubki/gallery
February 29th, 2008 at 11:22 am
the problem is that answers are translated to russian movie titles.. which might not be a direct translation. Plus, some of these movies can be russian as well.
I can read russian but still cant make out many of these.
March 4th, 2008 at 11:03 am
Can you please either give a link for the answers or post the answers?
thanks
June 14th, 2008 at 6:57 am
#5 = Drunken Master, the Jackie Chan movie?
