At /Film we try not to post anything that would be considered celebrity gossip. Last week in one of my Sundance blogs I wrote about my unfortunate experience meeting Quentin Tarantino after a screening of Hell Ride. A reader who had read my posting just sent me this video showing Quentin Tarantino attacking a paparazzi with a video camera while in Park City.

I’m not a supporter of the paparazzi, but at the same time, I think Tarantino’s reaction was totally unnecessary. My mom always told me that two wrongs don’t make a right. He could have easily just walked away. And even sadder, Tarantino’s comment leads me to believe that he actually believed the guy was a Park City local with a video camera and not a paparazzi, yet still acted the way he did.

What a badass… /sarcasm

Never mess with a caffiene addict before they’ve had their first cup in the morning.

  2. Gravatar

I love his films but his behavior is inexcusable… what a total dick…

  3. Gravatar

That was a joke, btw. Seriously though, Tarantino is a bit loony and unpredictable.

  4. Gravatar

I’m with Tarantino on this one… Someone should smack that camera dude.

  5. Gravatar

Yeah. It might have been a local, but he, the camera operator, was being a total dick. He couldn’t talk to QT? He couldn’t explain himself? Please. It was filth. And then he chases QT down the road going, “Come on. Hit me…” You could just hear the cash registers rattling in his head.

I know you had a spat with QT and QT, honestly, seems like a drunk cocksucker, but it’s leeches like this camera dude who feed, literally, off the misery of mankind.

I respect your policy of not promoting this filth, but I think you should step back from your personal encounter with QT and call this what it is — a symptom of a terminal disease.

Big the bigger man and remove this smudge from your pristine site.

  6. Gravatar

To be completely honest, I would have run this video even if it weren’t for my recent encounter…

I can’t stand up for the camera operator as I think he was clearly in the wrong. But as I said, my mother always told me, two wrongs don’t make a right.

Besides, I am under the firm belief that it should never come to violence, especially if you aren’t defending yourself from a physical attack.

It should also be noted that the camera guy started to respond to Tarantino within five seconds (I counted) of Tarantino’s request to know “What’s going on here?” Notice that Tarantino slaps the camera man while he tries to explain to Tarantino what the video is for. He didn’t even let the guy answer.

  7. Gravatar

I like his films…But that was a dick move.

  8. Gravatar

They should have settled it with a snowball fight.

  9. Gravatar

New catch phrase for 08: “Wha, what’s goin on HERE!”

  10. Gravatar

I don’t think Tarantino’s actions are all that out of line here. He shoved the guy’s camera a bit after being ambushed. He calmed down after faking a lunge at the cameraman. My thought is that the guy had it coming and worse. If anyone has a problem with Tarantino for other reasons, that’s fine, but I don’t see anything wrong with this. Seriously, the guy just had to answer him instead of continuing to film, and there would have been no altercation.

  11. Gravatar

    that’s great

  12. Gravatar

But why would you have run this anyway? I mean. This sort of crap is everywhere. And all it is is gossip crap made out of nothing.

Five seconds is a pretty long time to not respond when you’re asked a question. And the other guy (as there were two) just starts giving a non-answer. And it didn’t really come to violence, QT didn’t attack him. Tarantino just sort of shoved the camera and walked away. He didn’t even start screaming or saying nasty things to the guy. I’d say he was pretty civil.

Of course I’m not saying that you’re doing this, but I’m reminded of Rainn Wilson’s guest appearance on Entourage as the blogger detmined to sink Aquaman because feels slighted.

  13. Gravatar

Yeah you try waking up each morning for more than 15 years, decide to go out to work or for a cup of coffee only to be greeted by flashing cameras of humanity’s filth, then come around here talkin’ how much of a d!ck he is.

  14. Gravatar

Hey Peter, if you watch it again I think it’s clear Tarantino knows who these guys are - he’s being sarcastic when he mentions about them being local. He should have hit him - the cameraman invited him to do it and was clearly inciting him, he wouldn’t have had a leg to stand on in court….

  15. Gravatar

While we don’t usually go into the gossip territory, you’ll notice that I usually post stuff that falls out of the “movie news” category when it comes to film geek icons like Tarantino. For example, we’ve posted Edgar Wright’s radio show which featured almost no film related content, and other somewhat gossipy content like Katherine Heigl’s recent comments, Which Hollywood Director Just Bought Hulk Hogan’s House? Bret Ratner defending Rush Hour 3 with the story of his first gay blow job, Michael Moore Ripping Wolf Blitzer on CNN, Danny Boyle Trash Talking Eli Roth, The director who was seeking a date for his movie premiere on craigslist, Lily Tomlin’s I Heart Huckabees Outburst. Trust me when I say, I would have posted this regardless of what happened this week - it is too interesting not to.

Anonymous: Watch the video again and notice the camera man starts to explain what the video is for and Tarantino slaps the camera within a second of his explanation, not giving him a chance to explain himself. I use to be a videographer, and own lots of expensive video camera equipment. Tarantino’s shove/slap could have caused thousands of dollars worth of damage (it didn’t, but could have). I understand that it is disrespectful to invade the private space of celebrities in public. At Sundance, and in my everyday dealings with industry folk, I make a huge effort not to be obtrusive. But that is no excuse for #1 trying to physically hurt someone for doing so (at least for 10 seconds, if he had been following him around all day, that changes the story slightly… but this was clearly their first encounter) and #2 trying to destroy expensive personal property. As awful as paparazzi are, there is no excuse for that kind of behavior.

  16. Gravatar

I think QT is hilarious, nobody got hurt and tbh i think you’re making a bigger deal out of this than necessary.

  17. Gravatar

What an asshole. Who does he think he is? He movies aren’t even that good.

  18. Gravatar

    *His

  19. Gravatar

Concerned: If I’m correct, Tarantino lives outside of the Hollywood system in Texas, and is not subject to paparazzi on a daily, weekly or even monthly basis.

Richard: good catch, you might be right. It does appear to be their first encounter though… As for the camera man asking him to hit him (a douche bag move if I don’t say so myself…), I believe many court trials have sided in the photographers in these type of cases (sad but true)

  20. Gravatar

I’m not saying that the photographer was in the right. He wasn’t at all. But that doesn’t give Tarantino the right to act like a total dick. They were both wrong in this case.

  21. Gravatar

I can see both sides, but I’m leaning towards QT on this. I mean, it’s Sundance, he’s been up all night just like everyone else, it’s cold, you look like crap, and you walk outside with a coffee and some stranger is filming you. If it was a fan with a reg point-and-shoot, that’s different (like what happened to Peter, QT was a /ass for sure) but video is usually sold. Either way, always ask permission unless it’s a press-centric event. A person deserves that much, celeb or otherwise.

My big prob with the camera man here is that he sees that QT is obvi disgruntled, but he goes back up to him, while filming, and dares him to hit him. That’s not cool, ever. And then the cam guy proceeds to film him walking away down the street, to further vilify him on video. They didn’t seem like fans to me, just generators of celeb footage, maybe hoping a conflict like this might happen.

Also, we now know that QT is not scared to throw down. Geek power.

  22. Gravatar

what ever leave the guy alone ..why not walk up to him first and ask him if he can be on film

  23. Gravatar

I’m still trying to figure out what QT did wrong here…

  24. Gravatar

Russ: physically attacking someone who was just video taping him…

  25. Gravatar

Bob: It may seem innocent, but it’s a violation. It’s an assault. QT is within legal rights to protect his person. He has the right to say no to others violating his person. And he should. He doesn’t owe the world anything, but his art.

  26. Gravatar

Celebrities are under no obligation to be gracious. Nobody is. But it’s a nice gesture anyway. Paparazzi is a reality of the celebrity lifestyle, mostly because we as consumers are fascinated with the private lives of celebrities. Tarantino doesn’t have the temperament to deal with it, unfortunately, so maybe people will learn to leave him alone. That doesn’t mean he’s in the right.

  27. Gravatar

haha that was great. I’m with Tarantino on this one.

  28. Gravatar

this video makes me like tarrantino even more. it proves he’s not some bulls*** celebrity that will put on a happy face just because the cameras are rolling. he’s a human being just like anyone of us and he’s not afraid to call someone out if theyre trying to f*** with him. he tried to ask the cameraman what he was filming for and instead of trying to explain himself, or even say he was just a fan, he pulled the typical paparazzi “silent” treatment in an attempt to get some good footage. regardless if it was “right” or not, QT isnt afraid to stick up for himself….and that dbag cameraman deserved worse.

  29. Gravatar

After watching the video again. That douchebag cameraman really did deserve what he got. Especially when he approached him a second time, knowing full-well how Quentin felt at the moment.

Tarantino should have punched that litte shit for trying to antagonize him to begin with. Quentin kept it real and that dude only provoked him furthur. Just as some here said Tarantino should have walked away or left the guy alone. The cameraman should have behaved the same way.

  30. Gravatar

    douche…

  31. Gravatar

Weird that I always hear about what a dick he is, but the one time I met him, he was nice.

It was at Comic Con and you had to win tickets to be able to get his autograph. My girlfriend won one, and my friend and I stood in line with her. He signed for all of us even though we said we didn’t have tix. A guy in front of us also didn’t have a ticket and asked if he would sign his guitar. Tarantino tried to, but security wouldn’t let him.

I think he’s fine interacting and making nice with fans, but only when he’s ready to. I wouldn’t want to make myself available 24/7 either. Especially to douchebags like this camera guy.

  32. Gravatar

why so violent? the bird would of been healthier and classier.

  33. Gravatar

when the camera guy taunted him. he should have jerked the camera from his hands and beat him with it. you gotta make an assault charge worth it. mess with the bull you get the horn. Tarantino is nuts why get in his space? its like poking a bear with a stick.

  34. Gravatar

TMZ and the celeb chasers of all kinds aren’t really people anymore with the way they act. Run over them with your call for all I care.

  35. Gravatar

might I ask what happened between Peter and QT? Ive been trying to find it but i guess i just missed that one…

  36. Gravatar

The paparazzi are out of control. That cameraman had no business just randomly filming a man… cause that’s all QT is… a man, walking and sipping his joe.

Fuck the paparazzi. They deserve to have their asses kicked. It’s invasion of privacy and stalking.

  37. Gravatar

    Peter,

Why do you feel the constant need to defend your posting? If you aren’t confident enough to post it and let it stand on your own, you probably shouldn’t have posted it at all.

  38. Gravatar

Maybe he was in bad mood that time.Everyone hates paparazzi

  39. Gravatar

Evan, if I wasn’t confident enough, I wouldn’t have posted it for six million people to see. I don’t understand. If I don’t respond to comments people say I’m hiding, but if I do defend myself, you say I’m not confident in my original posting. I think the best thing I could do is to remain an active participant in the comment discussions…

  40. Gravatar

My guess, concerning the comment, is that it was the camera in his face that set him off, not the fact that someone was talking to him. Theres an extreme difference between someone modestly coming up to say Hi and turning around to find a man with a huge camera in your face when you are just trying to get a coffee.

Also, when your at sundance, or any other festival where all you do is work, talk to people, do interviews, meet fans, your totally putting yourself out there for photos and all that, because all of the celebs know thats part of their job and so I can understand after days of letting the public have a go at you with all the time they should need, it must feel awful being bombarded with a camera in your face the second you have a free moment and all you want is to enjoy a nice coffee alone!!

I say go quentin! I loved the trip move.

  41. Gravatar

I think Tarantino is the dick here.. and I think the cameraman is actually just a local, I mean an actual paparazzi would follow him another 5 miles..

First the cameraman is JUST taping him. Ok, maybe could be anoying. But it’s Quentin Tarantino! damn he should be if not used to it at least understand what he is and why some guy could want to tape him.

There’s no excuse for his violent and physical reaction against the cameraman.

After the “attack” of course that the cameraman (now been also an ass) sees an oportunity there and goes for it -”c’mon hit me, hit me”

  42. Gravatar

Fucking paparazzi, that shit head deserved a punch in the face by Quentin.

  43. Gravatar

I hope he just started a new trend!

  44. Gravatar

Anyone who actually thinks Tarantino is in the right here (and a couple of people above apparently did) really need to adjust their civilization filters.

Yes, it might be annoying to be filmed when walking out of a place. I can understand that. So should you hit someone for that? Would anyone truly excuse that kind of behavior? It’s ridiculous.

Certainly you can make an argument that a person with a camera should not just come up and start filming you. That’s fine and is certainly a valid argument. However, hitting someone like this when it is not in self defense and it clearly is not is called assault and battery. It really is that simple. So if you’re saying Tarantino was in the right here, keep in mind that little fact.

Should the cameraman have followed him saying “hit me”? No, probably not. But, on the other hand, he was reacting as many of us probably would if in that situation.

Notice at the end that Tarantino just walked away? He could have just done that at the start. But, then again, as we see from some responses here, I guess that kind of behavior will always cater to some of the crowd.

  45. Gravatar

Peter, I think we’ve got a different perception of the video. First off, I hear two guys talking to Tarantino, with the cameraman’s voice being the one who challenges QT to hit him near the end of the clip. And that’s not the voice that, eventually, begins to answer QT after about 5 seconds and 6 or 7 questions from an obviously concerned Tarantino. QT’s urgency necessitated a faster response and even then, he wasn’t getting a response from the camera man, he was getting it from the second guy. And I don’t see Tarantino attacking the cameraman, I see him shoving the camera. If he had hit the cameraman, I also would not think the cameraman would chase after him and challenge QT to hit first, because Tarantino would have already done that a few moments ago. That said, I very much understand your point about expensive camera equipment. I know what that’s like and am sure many student filmmakers would greatly prefer to be hit in the face than have my camera smashed. That said, I think there should be a distinction between fans who randomly see a celeb somewhere and ask for a picture or an autograph and people who choose to be members of the paparazzi and chose to make their job be hounding and badgering people 24-7. You don’t have to choose to do that job. There are other options. But by choosing it, you essentially commit yourself to hounding people everyday. Who would want to do that? I had friends in college who were very involved with environmental policy but refused to go around knocking on people’s doors with a clip board at dinner time, invading their space because they didn’t feel like it was their right to encroach like that. And at least then, it was for a good cause, trying to spread awareness about pollution, etc. This isn’t for a good or selfless cause. It’s to earn a paycheck.

  46. Gravatar

Honestly though, fuck off. Even if he is the writer/director of fuckin’ Pulp Fiction, leave the dude alone. He’s getting coffee just like that dude would have, just like you do, and just like all the people you know who AREN’T Quentin Tarantino do. leave the poor fucker alone…he just wants to do his everyday thing and do it normally…and there are certain douche bags that can’t let that happen.

  47. Gravatar

total dick. paparazzi will be paparazzi, but in this case the camera man just asked him how he’s dooing and earlier if he can take a picture of him. tarantino probablly misssed he’s morning wank and had some extra testosterone, combined with that cofee ….lethal combination =))). hes a pussy, if tarantino thinks he’s a tough guy he would have beaten the shit out of that guy, with the camera or without. i mean how much could he loose in a trial. he wouldn’t give shit for the money if he was a real man. but pussy is pussy, and tarantino is the biggest one ever =)))

  48. Gravatar

It’s a pretty well-worn debate in our modern celebrity culture: how much right do paparazzi have to hound the stars, and what sort of reaction is acceptable from the stars in response. I can only imagine how annoying it would be to be hounded by photogrpahers. And I can only imagine how wonderful it would be to have millions of dollars and hang out with movie stars and get major distribution for my movies because I’m a household name. Fact is, no matter how bad papparazi might be, it is a fact of life of celebrity culture. It goes with the territory. That’s not going to change. Tarantino has everything to gain from exposure and being recognizable. The fact we want to know more about him and to see him on camera is part and parcel of the reason why he is a star director. Tarantino has cultivated his own star status. He’s exploited it and there is a flip-side to the power of star-status. He should learn to be more gracious and accept that being a famous icon means people will take his picture and film him and move on. He didn’t have to talk to them at all. Seemed to me he just wanted to pick a fight.

  49. Gravatar

“The fact we want to know more about him and to see him on camera is part and parcel of the reason why he is a star director.”

See…. I think that is total bullshit.

I’d love to watch an hour long interview with him on Charlie Rose or something like that where he is prepared and sitting down to have a serious and in-depth conversation about his work and about movies, but it’s ridiculous to employ vampire whores to stalk him and produce video and pictures of him waking up and getting a cup of coffee.

  50. Gravatar

If you watch him leave Starbucks, it looks like QT has seen the cameraman before. So it could be that he thought these were some annoying locals (The video does not show him go into the Starbucks). That said, this video seems to be an incomplete telling of the events.

  51. Gravatar

Anonymous: I mis-spoke. Many people want to see stars’ personal lives. I shouldn’t have spoken for you. But the fact is many, many people do. And again, it’s part of being a celebrity. That’s not going to change, no matter how you feel about it. So don’t become a celebrity.

  52. Gravatar

I wasn’t saying that you were. And I understand people’s interest in seeing artists outside of their films or performances, etc. That’s why it’s so interesting to see someone like Daniel Day-Lewis when he is not in character.

But I think that those people you described who want to see stars’ personal lives are vapid leeches who should read a book or pick up a hobby.

QT and a lot of these people are filmmakers, musicians, artists, and writers…. they’re not interested in being “celebrities.”

  53. Gravatar

“so dont become a celebrity” …?… You have been found guilty of ignorance in the 1st degree. please go execute yourself.

  54. Gravatar

Simple as: You CAN’T hit someone when it’s NOT IN SELF DEFENSE.
He is an ass. period. He could just walk away.. but noooo

  55. Gravatar

What happened between Peter and QT? I couldn’t find that entry.

  56. Gravatar

you are all retarded. how would you like to have a camera in your face by some loser trying to get you to act out?

  57. Gravatar

the camera guys sounds like an illegal mexican trying to make a buck. I would have asked him for his papers.

  58. Gravatar

Dear me i’m not. You sound like the kind of person that would hit someone for stating a differing opinion, so not surprisingly you count Tarantino’s response as acceptable. I’m not planning to execute myself or anyone else, but thanks for the offer.

I’m not stating that the cameraman wasn’t a jerk. But I do think it’s interesting that the Coen Brothers, certainly iconic figures and equal to Tarantino in talent. I’ve seen them on Charlie Rose. I love their movies. And yet, they’d pass me on the street and I’d never know it was them. Do I know what Sam Mendes looks like? Nope. But I love his movies too. Tarantino has worked very hard to become a celebrity in his own right, and celebrities are dogged by jerks. It’s the price for being a multi-millionaire Hollywood icon. Nobody made him do it. In fact, there is some chance he’s actually welcoming the fracas in yet another calculated maneuver at cultivating an image (the irascible, tempramental genius, for example?).

Anyhow, every day we experience the assaults from people who don’t behave very well. Cashiers, or bosses, or idiots in trucks driving past and shouting out the window. For a celebrity, they’re pretty immune from all these slings and arrows. The price they pay is an endless desire to capture their personal moments on tape for our scrutiny.

  59. Gravatar

Way to be over dramatic…this was nothing…

  60. Gravatar

Pricks got what they deserved. If you intend on stalking someone to make a buck, that person should have te right to beat you to a bloody pulp.

  61. Gravatar

beyond the swipe at the camera, QT took a swipe kick at the camerman’s feet. that’s definitely not a nice guy. wow, i didnt know hair loss had that angst side-effect

  62. Gravatar

He didn’t freak out. It looks like he’s just pushing the camera out of the the way. He’s not trying to knock it over. Everyone’s over reacting

  63. Gravatar

Wow the guy filing seemed like a total prick, why can’t you just let the man drink his coffee in peace. How would you feel if you had people following you with video cameras everywhere? Granted he may have overeacted but we only see this part of the clip, we don’t know what happned before hand. You vultures.

  64. Gravatar

He didnt attack him, pushing a camera looks pretty agresive from the cameras point of view but its rly not. And this guy was trying to provoke him to get a film just so he could sell it for money? what a selfish dick the paparazzi is

  65. Gravatar

You’re a director man, ,get used to the camera. I would like to a paparazzi come and his camera on set. QT is a class act douche bag.

  66. Gravatar

Oh, leave him alone. Everybody makes mistakes. No harm done.

  67. Gravatar

I’m with Tarantino on this one. The guy with the camara, either local or papparazzi, wanted a violent reaction.

  68. Gravatar

The Cameraman was being a dick. And people, “famous” or not deserve some privacy.
Stalkerrazzi are what is wrong with the media and with society today, somehow thinking it is just fine to follow people around and afford them NO privacy. Glad to see Tarrantino getting in their face about it.

  69. Gravatar

Paparazzies are idiots. Why bug a poor man just because he’s famous?

    I’ve totally sympathy for Tarrentino.

  70. Gravatar

God, this video is making the rounds on the internet now. I really hope this kind of crap stays off of /Film.

We need less movie websites with this sort of over-sensitive drama on it.

  71. Gravatar

Awwww… someone didn’t get his morning meth!! QT needs a new source.

  72. Gravatar

that camera man is a piece of shit. how can you sympathize with someone who stalks and harasses celebritys? who gives a fuck if he’s a celebrity.. he’s getting coffee. nothing to be reported on.

  73. Gravatar

Woa. Yeah sure QT might be a bit on the unpredictable side but I think he was in the right on this one. I hope the camera guy pooped his pants in front of all the other camera guys. :-)

  74. Gravatar

I’m glad I’m not filmed and photographed 24/7. It must effing suck. Quentin is looney, but I really can’t blame him for getting upset.

  75. Gravatar

I am totally with QT on this on.

First: He didn’t hit him! How dumb are you guys?
He pushed me! he pushed me! What are you guys in grade school? Actually most of you probably are in Jr. High or High school

Second: If you shove a camera in anybodies face, what kind of reaction do you expect? It’s like jumping in front of a car and complaining about getting hit.

Third: QT asked him what he was doing? If I was behind the camera, I would just say, “I am a huge fan, and was hoping you had something to say for me and my friends!” I am sure he might have been upset, but he wouldn’t have done that, he probably would have just asked me to turn the fucking camera off. I of course wouldn’t be dumb enough to shove a camera in his face.

If I was around, I would have hit the guy for QT. Just a note, I am not a fan of QT at all. But people should have their privacy.

  76. Gravatar

QT can be a total assHOLE ,2 years ago at comic-con , i asked him if i can take a picture with him and he blew me off big time, since then i do not support anything this “rocky dennis looking m.f.er does!!! you have to show love to the fans that gave you EVERYTHING you ass wipe!!

  77. Gravatar

QT was in public, the videographer did nothing wrong. QT is the real asshole here, he should have just put his hood up, keep sippin on that tasty beverage and walked away.

  78. Gravatar

“QT can be a total assHOLE ,2 years ago at comic-con , i asked him if i can take a picture with him and he blew me off big time, since then i do not support anything this “rocky dennis looking m.f.er does!!! you have to show love to the fans that gave you EVERYTHING you ass wipe!!”

haha, he didn’t sign my spidey comic!111!!! DEATH TO TARANTINO!

  79. Gravatar

Does anyone have, or have heard any stories about the way Tarantino treats his female fans? Does he only treat guys that way or does he blow off and yell at women as well??

  80. Gravatar

    Tarantino’s an over-rated prick.

  81. Gravatar

It would probably get a little old to have a camera in your face all the time.

  82. Gravatar

There should be a law made that if someone sticks a camera in your face you should be allowed to beat the living hell out of them. That would curb all the paparazzi and assholes just trying to mess with celebs. I don’t much like his movies anymore but I like QT.

  83. Gravatar

If he doesn’t want to be photographed or videotaped by paparazzi then he should get the hell out of Utah and forget of ever coming to the Sundance Film Festival again. I mean it’s one of the biggest film festivals in the US with some of the biggest film stars in attendance, of course there is going to be a lot paparazzi everywhere trying to take picture of everything. Didn’t he know that before he came to the festival? Is it really that hard to figure out, that if you’re a famous director attending the Sundance Film Festival and somebody tries to take a photo of you while you walk out of Starbucks with a cup of coffee it’s the PAPARAZZI?

  84. Gravatar

He just got him on a bad time…Just as simple as that! Both parties should complain, and voilá…freedom is back!

  85. Gravatar

    @ jj gonzo

Did you offer to pay him for the picture? If not, I don’t see how you see this as being a fair deal.

Here is the classified ad for what you are selling.

For sale a picture of me with you.

Price: you agree to waste your time with my sorry ass for the minute or three it takes me to take out the camera, find someone to take the picture (who also will expect a picture with you), wait while I teach them the settings, then help them again because the flash didn’t go off and then you get to smile like an idiot for 2 or 3 more pictures because my eyes were closed and I didn’t like the way I looked in any of them.

Who in there right mind would get upset at someone for not taking that deal? That is panhandling. If you are lucky enough that someone is willing to do that. It is charity and you should say thank you.

You say he owes you. But what does he owe you? If you watched one of his movies. You either a) paid to see a movie and saw a movie b) didn’t pay to see a movie and watched ads that paid your share or c) didn’t pay to see the movie - watched movie and now you actually owe him the money he would have gotten from you watching it.

Which of those scenarios do you think leaves him owing you?

If I was dogged all the time by people taking my pic and video all them time I would be on edge also… probably would not have stopped where he did.
I am with QT on this one. BUT.. it did kind of look staged to me.

you can see a flash bulb go off as well so it appears when he turned around there was a videocamera and a regular one, so 2 guys in his face snapping/filming away… He knew they were paparazzi, and he asked what they were doing and they wouldn’t reply just stood there and filmed, it’s no wonder he got mad.

I don’t understand how this is legal. The more and more I think about it; the more and more I think it’s totally fucked. Don’t these people have a right to privacy? Part of acting is creating an illusion. That illusion is deemed quantifiable in an economic sense. Meaning, these people make a living based on the illusions they create. Yet the world must, must tear down the illusion, find the “real” person underneath. What right do we have to fuck with others livelihoods?

Sorry what does this have to do with filmmaking, art, cinema, QT’s films, etc.?

Posting this is really pathetic and thinking that your ‘opinion’ on who acted ‘properly’ matters AT ALL is even more pathetic. Are you really that bored??

QT as a person doesn’t interest me as much as his films do.

If I was George W. Bush I’d personally track each one of you down, pat you on the head and say ‘Thanks for making easy you putz”.

‘Thanks for making IT easy, you putz”.

(Though he’d probably make the same mistake)

Hey Peter, I think you’re a bit overly sensitive to this one because you’re a member of the media. I hardly think it’s fair that the law sides the the paparazzi– why should it be legal to film someone just because they’re famous? What about people who enter the public eye unwillingly and then get hounded by these shameless bottom feeders?

Personally, I think QT is a saint for not beating the guy down. Were I in his shoes in this particular situation I would’ve give the guy 2 options: Give me the tape or I smash your camera into thousands of little pieces. You can piss and moan at me as much as you want, but let me ask you one question: Where are QT’s rights here? Why can’t they guy get a cup of coffee in peace? How does the law protect him from being dogged constantly by these guys? Bear in mind, I see no problem with hounding celebrities at press functions/premieres/festivals, but when they’re just out in public living their lives, they deserve the same respect and privacy that all of us enjoy (even nutjobs like Britney Spears– let that poor thing have a psychotic breakdown in peace). They’ve got a similar system set up in Europe and it seems to work much better than what we’ve got here (minus, of course, the tragedy of Princess Di).

I’d also like to point out that this video doesn’t represent enough to accurately judge QTs reaction. Has this been going on all day? Has this guy pulled this stunt before? For all we know, QT could’ve gotten some bad news inside and be in a pissy mood. But nobody cares about that. They just want to throw judgement on him based on a few minutes of tape.

Papparazzi need to be stopped. If some idiot outside my apartment waiting for me to come out to film me, I can call the cops and have him removed. I can even get a restraining order if it comes to that. But what about guys like QT? I don’t like to condone violence, but if the government is not going to step up and grant the same privacy rights to celebrities as they do everyone else, I don’t really see any other options. Bash me all you want, but one day the paparazzi are going to be responsible for the death of one of “America’s Sweethearts” and then I’ll have the sad duty of telling you I told you so.

Quentin Tarantino looks like a goblin.

  93. Gravatar

There’s no such thing as inexcusable behaviour towards paparazzi.
People you call celebrities aren’t only that! They’re regular people doing jobs that are required so you can go about your ordinarily entertained everyday lives. Show them some respect! Especially the writers and directors… The sluts that expose themselves for publicity alone can have it, I guess, but being a public figure does NOT justify paparazzi behaviour.

  94. Gravatar

We have to remember that this happens to him everyday… at some point, he’s going to get tired of it and take out his anger on the nearest paparazzi.

  95. Gravatar

Q: What’s the difference between a stalking psycho and a paparazzi?

    A: A camera.

  96. Gravatar

You lilly livered chickenshit camera wielding faggots are geting to be too much with your sensitivity. If you want to stalk and bother people be ready to stand accountable for your actions.
    Stupid Fucks.

  97. Gravatar

Quentin Tarantino did not slap the cameraman. He reached to pull the camera down, and the paparazzo pulled the camera away. The funny thing is what happened after that: Quentin makes like he is going to do something, the guy jumps back, and gets hit by a car driving in the parking lot. Priceless.

  98. Gravatar

Those camera guys were total dicks. Those of you who think otherwise need to get your heads examined. How would you feel if you had a group of assholes watching your every QT expressed his anger, and went to move the camera out of the way. He didn’t attack the dude, and didn’t even verbally cross the line. Don’t pass judgement or pass out some hokey half assed moralistic crap about two wrongs not making a right. Give us all a break, sometimes you got a be a man and stand up for yourself. Way to go QT, don’t listen to a word from these film making wannabe puff’s!

  99. Gravatar

Tarantino is in the wrong here.

It’s totally un-cool to react like that, he should of just gone about his own business and ignored him like a true porfessional. But no, it’s as if Tarantino WANTED a confrontation, what’s with him these days?

Paparzazi is part and parcel of movie celebrity-dom even though they are low lifes, yes,…they are there because their is demand in the public for videos/pictures etc. Tarantino is just a millionaire spoiled brat filmmaker and this violent assault and battery sum up his pathetic little character. What a loser!!

Shame on Tarantino. Only Scumbags react like this.

  100. Gravatar

I agree with Cinemaniac1979 100% on the flip side It would be sad if one of your family members was pushed off the road with a child in the car, hounded as soon as you walk out the door YOU have no idea what QT or any other famous person goes through … jealousy maybe? I don’t know when was the last time you looked in the mirror?!

To Bill Gibron- Shame on you for making such a tasteless remark!

Clearly QT was in the right. He made it very clear that he didn’t wanna be filmed. The camera guy should have turned the camera away immediately but he kept pointing it like a retard. These people need to take a hint. QT and other celebrities are human beings, not fucking animals in a zoo to which you can shove a video camera in their face and expect them not to react, as if they had no concept of personal space, or technology, rights, etc. because they’re merely creatures. Treat people the way you wanna be treated. If some creepy faggot stranger started pointing a video camera directly at me and didn’t stop when I asked them, I’d bash their nose in.

  102. Gravatar

    DONT FUCK WITH QUENTIN BITCHES

  103. Gravatar

If I was QT I would have poured my coffee on the camera then kicked his ass like he said he would of if the camera wasnt on.
