Cloverfield Monster Revealed in Fan Art

Cloverfield Monster Blur

Since the first Cloverfield reviews have hit the web, fans have started creating art (some of it, pretty incredible looking) based on the descriptions of the Cloverfield Monster. Because this is potential spoilage, I have posted the photos after the jump.

This is said to be the one that looks most like the real monster:

Here is a look at a fan recreation of one of the parasites:

Hm, if these are true.. Does the main monster slowly morph back into a human or some kind of humanoid? Either way, can't wait to see this flick! =D
  • kiko
I hate this movie...the world talks too much about it, but there's still *nothing* to see!
  • Does this mean anything:

"KEYWORD: "...is the one that LOOKS Like the monster..."

    Not "IS"!

Anyways, the parasite thing was no big surprise, since in the first preview I saw there's a part where some person goes "SHE'S BEEN BITTEN!"
  • Kode
That is no parasite from a fan!!!
That is directly taken from the Neville Page from the The Gnomon Workshop!!!

At first I thought the parasites were a dumb idea - but now I think they're genius. Not only does it make sense for the monster to have them, they're going to increase the terror and chaos of the situation exponentially.

Looking forward to this, but I'm hoping the steadicam isn't quite as nauseating as Blair Witch.
  • Garvan Doherty
anybody else think the monster looks suspiciously like the monter from the host?!
  • SETH
YES THE MONSTER DOES LOOK LIKE THE THING FROM THE HOST. I HOPE THATS NOT IT AND THE MOVIES DOSENT GO DARE I SAY THE GODZILLA ROUTE
  • These guys are getting good. People have been sharing their art and refining from the feedback. I'm not as good of an artist as some of them, but I did update the horrid first pics I scribbled out on the night of 1-10. I added color too, but I've already seen flaws I would need to address that some of these guys have done. Anywho, add these to the mix of drawings from someone who's seen it:

More at the review on www.kidreviewer.com.

I can't wait to see the true artists renditions from the production company, to find out what we missed from the monster. It's not like the characters sat their the whole 90 minutes getting full on face shots of something that was about to eat their noggins.

Just one missile or tank shot and the monster should be dead. Come on.

Anyway, nice pic. Great that they revolutionized 98's Godzilla by putting another pair of legs coming out of his shoulders.
  • sarah
DUMB! That monster isn't even scary. The 4th and 5th pics look like Venom. This movie could be sooo good but I feel less and less excited about it as it gets closer.
  • B33
    @Sarah:

Whether the supposed monster is "scary" or not neither makes or breaks the film. And these are just renditions. Seeing the actual monster in action might sway your opinion.
  • Kode
the first one is kinda scary..

the other ones are like: WTF is that cheap-horrorvideogame-boss thing?
hope doesnt have that humanoid head cause.. man, looks terrible and.. funny, wich is baaad.
  • Neville Page
Just to clarify. The drawing of the Bug taken from the Gnomon website was done a loooong time ago by me and I had nothing to do with posting it here. Thanks for pointing this out Kode. It is NOT a fan design nor in the movie. I am, however, flattered that someone felt it worthy of posting (even if just for ridicule).
Creating something brand new is always a challenge, but, having already seen Cloverfield, I can say that the entire experience should be pretty fresh for all.
Being critical is an important way to evolve something. But just being mean....not really cool. Let those who have posted thier endeavors above benefit from intelligent critisism, or even better....look for the positive in things. To all that put the energy into your designs, Good Job! Keep it up. Some great ideas.
  • OMG PLEEZE
PLEEZE GOD I NEED TO SEE THIS MOVIE LIKE RITE NOW OMG IM GONNA DIE
  • Simple question
So...how does something like this go about blowing up the statue of libertys head? explosive heat vision err sumthin? seriously.
  • Drewe C
The ads made this movie gave the whole scenario an air of real mystery, then you find out it's another monster movie...then you see some prospective artwork of the monster and realise that they have maintained the required standard, and made a RETARDED monster movie. Toime has proven that the phrase monster movie and the word entertainment are mutually exclusive. The only competition is to see who has strived to make the most expensive, least entertaining monster movie, I think this might beat both Godzilla and the appaling King Kong. God! I want to poke my own eyes out just so I don't have to watch the commercials.
  • ATD
Actually, I am the one who pointed it out. But as usual, my comments were ignored, just in the knick of time - imagine that - to prevent any controversy. As I'm sure this comment as well will be ignored, I should probably just type endless profanity for the rest of it. But that would be redundant when compared to the content available on this site.
  • Hey Neville, funny stuff here, eh? The REAL stuff looks amazing...

    Pete Konig
  • Neville Page
Hello Pete. YOU ROCK!!!!! Love what you have done with the "Real" stuff too.
  • lisa
This is nothing but a HUGE mutated FLEA !! Look up pictures of flea's people! Pretty close, Huh?!
  • lisa
Thanks for the artwork!!..Parasite..She's got bit..all fits!
  • T.J.
Even though each picture is different they all have one thing in common.........reptile like monster that stands taller than buildings and has a tail......ummm let me think......godzilla!!!!
  • T.J.
ooo and one more thing........the suspense of not knowing what the moster is makes it even more blieveable that it is godzilla because of how bad the 1998 version was with matthew broderick.....who would want to see another godzilla movie after that. If this is a godzilla remake this was the only way to get people to watch it in my opinion
  • THE REAL MONSTER IS PREJUDICE :(
  • It's not a movie about the monster, it's about the situation. Think about the first trailer, it was about how the people reacted from a first person perspective. Don't worry, you'll get to see the monster, but if all you want to do is see a monster you could check out 100 dvd's or comic books with cool monsters. It's about the experience.

And for real, like anyone is going to stand next to a 300 foot monster, no matter how dumb you think they look, and not be having a bad day? If you were in their shoes, the monster could look like a box of kleenex and you'd be having a bad day, espeically a box of kleenex that you just saw squash a tank and knock over a building.
  • Reptilicus
Whay something that was born and raised in deep ocean needs claws?
  • Hey Neville and Peter, I'm a huge fan of both of your work. Neville, I met one of students at the Revelations workshop and he told me you worked on the film, any fears I had of the creature looking bad vanished. I can't wait to see it. I was just as excited when I heard Peter worked on the flick. Peter it was cool meeting you at the after party, I wish I could have hung out longer, but it was snowing when I got home. Shoot me an e-mail sometime. Great stuff you two, the film's gonna' rock.

To all the haters, just wait until you see it, I promise the creature will be cool with these two working on it.
  • Jesse
No one's said this thing came from deep water. As for the Godzilla comments...okay, so it's a monster movie. So if it was funny, would you be like, "Oh, it's another COMEDY. I want to poke my eyes out so I don't have to see the commercials." Or if it was dramatic, "Oh, it's another DRAMA. Gosh, that's lame."
It's a genre. How can you assume that this one, which is taking a totally different approach than ever before, is going to be bad based on a couple of drawings where a jawline bears a rudimentary resemblance to 1998's Godzilla?
  • David
Saw the movie last night. Picture #4 is the closest approximation of what I saw onscreen.
  • Monte
I saw it last night & those pictures are fairly accurate.
  • Leo
David...The one that looks like the monkey?
Are you counting the blurry one?
  • hORROR!!!
  • Scooter
I can't believe that no one has asked the most important question about the movie - Is there any nudity in it?
  • Freddy
the monster looks like the one in the third drawing
  • 3rd one is too spikey on the back. He has rounded curves.
  • That is exactly how the monster looks, to a T! I seen it at the midnight showing, I dont know why but I was kind of disturbed over the film, they did a good job of making it believable I guess. and those little parasites are bastards, you will learn to hate them more than the actual monster. none the less, it is a great film, check it out if you have an interest.
  • ryan
the third one is what the creature looks like it is almost the exact on from the movie
  • Marc
That monster looks really realistic... It almost looks exactly the same.
    Good Job!
  • corey
hi guys.. i saw this movie on the 17th.. and i really liked it.. there was great visuals, and yes, i think we saw just enough of the monster throughout the film to have an idea of what it is... to my thoughts, i thought it looked alot like sebulba from star wars episode 1: the phantom menace.. because like sebulba this monster seems to have very large front legs... thats what i think anyway.. :)
  • Leo
    OK PEOPLEZ

TIME TO STRAIGHTEN IT OUT! (SPOILER ALERT!!!!)
  • Leo
    OK PEOPLEZ

TIME TO STRAIGHTEN IT OUT! (SPOILER ALERT!!!!)

I just saw the movie like an hour ago. It was awesome

The monster has 2 big front legs, 2 slightly smaller back legs, its really skinny, has 2 little arms, a bunch of big teeth im not sure but i dont think it has scales. it looks completely smooth, and no claws. Its head is small and its eyes have some sort of pulse.
It has parasites like ticks but they look like a kind of hairy smaller version of an antlion from half life 2 and their bites are poisoness and cause one character to bleed out of her eyes and then he/she explodes.
It walks kind of like a gurilla but closer to the ground
  • Tim
Personally, I think it looks like a mutated armadillo...
  • Kt
i think a few of the pics above are close, but not as scary as the real monster. that movie is like war of the worlds x2. they better make a sequel though.
  • Kt
    (SPOILER)
i think the thing that bugs us the most is why the duece doesnt it get hurt, it doesnt really make sense, its possible to kill the little things but not the big monster.
  • Yosh
The only thing i really dont understand, is there was no back story for the monster, they really didnt show it being dead, or if they won, i know they had a nuclear blast when the alarm rang but did the monster die, like they left many question unanswered....i just would have like to know where the monster came from...like how all of a sudden a monster just comes out of no where??....thats the only thing i didnt understand
  • Andrewthemexican
Well, I saw the movie a few hours ago. I really enjoyed it, it was a great movie. But how it ended...

    -Spoiler Alert-

Up until the helicopter crash, the movie was fine for me. But I would've liked to seen whoever was viewing this tape, and learned what they knew of the monster and situation. There was obviously someone who was watching it, based on how it had the text 'Video tape acquired from area formerly known as Central Park' in the beginning. And it being 'Formerly known as Central Park', obviously they used the nuke and destroyed Rob and Beth under that bridge.

It would've been so much better had they included like even 5-10 more minutes and shown whoever was watching this and have them talking to someone or typing it up what they had known about the monster attack.
  • Chuck Norris will be in the sequel playing the role of Gordon Freeman! Yes! That thing was like a mix of Doom Half-Life 2 and Resident Evil. Geez.
  • Im gonna laugh when this turns out to be the first of a series of Hellgate Movies.
  • almcg2
Hi folks. *** some SPOILER info here ***. The monster is sort of a cross between monster pics 2,3 and 4 above. I didn't see any scales on it's back. For those who didn't see the movie yet, you do get a pretty darn good look at the end.
Where did it come from? Well, remember the capsized tanker? And the statue of liberty is on an island..... well... get it... tanker in the bay capsized and the statue ripped up... and the thing likes water. Get it! ok... there was an earthquake right? Could it have come from a hole in the bottom of the bay opened by the earthquake? If you remember at the end of the movie, when you see it's face, it had some puffer things pulsing on the side of it's head and then drew them in before it chomped Hud. You know.... like strange air and water breathing gills/sacks. And those parasites... maybe not. Maybe "it" was a mother! You know... dropping babies off it's body, like some spiders do. But you know, we don't need to know where it comes from. The characters in the movie didn't, and all we know is what they saw. I think this makes is more shocking. And... sequel? Well some kids posted the strange audio at the end of the credits ( I stayed and heard them), and backwards, they say something like "It didn't die."
I liked the movie a lot, even though the camera work was hard to get used to, and the characters continued to do really stupid thing. Terrible survivor skills. Frustrating, but had to happen, I guess, to enhance the thrill and chill factor.
  • David
I gotta say, some of those pictures are pretty close. Although the pictures of the parasites weren't much like the ones in the movie. In fact, they reminded me a little bit of some of the bugs from Starship Troopers, with long pincer-like mouths
