Three Spocks

Star Trek legend Leonard Nimoy has confirmed a story-point for the story of the upcoming JJ Abrams prequel/reboot. The actor revealed to CBS 2 in Los Angeles that the film actually features not one, not two, but THREE Spocks.

“I am Spock, and there is another Spock and there is another Spock. There are a total of three Spocks in the movie and that is all I will say about it”

While at face value, this might seem like a major spoiler, it likely just confirms our previous speculation that a young Spock will also be featured in the film. And I don’t mean Zachary Quinto, who is playing the character as a young adult.

When the announced the casting of Winona Ryder as Spock’s mother Amanda Grayson, I commented on how she was too young to play the part. Ryder is only a few years older than 30-year-old Quinto. I speculated that Ryder must actually be featured as part of Spock’s origin story (ie birth), as part of a flashback to his childhood, or part of a time travel storyline. While time travel elements are rumored to have a part in the new film, I don’t think this is part of it. One thing is for sure, a younger child or baby-aged Spock will be featured in the new film.

Did you forget that vulcans have a 200-year life-span, and age more slowly than humans?

Spock’s mom is a human. It wouldn’t make sense that her half-vulcan son would appear to be nearly the same age as her when she is ~30.

@Jeff - Did you forget that Spock’s mother is Human?

Jeff, if you knew anything about Star Trek you would know that Spock is in fact half vulcan and half human. His mother was a human. Duhhh…

Did you forget that Hollywood has a technology called ‘make-up’ that can alter the age of people?

Uh, thanks for using my artwork in your photo of the three Spocks. Fame at last?

Uhm. It’s a very interesting article, but I really do hope you folks asked permission before just taking someone’s artwork to use like this. And you know… a little byline saying ‘center image created by Karracaz’ would have gone a long way towards the word we all know as ‘respect’…

…provided you actually asked, anyway. *shrugs* People seem to think they can just grab someone else’s artwork and throw it in and use it in whatever they like and then post with it as if there’s nothing wrong…

I do hope you folks you did NOT do that here. There’s too many people who do that sort of thing already. And Karracaz’s work is very distinctive; it’s very easy to pick it out of anything.
