First Look: Disney’s Bolt

Bolt

Disney has sent us a first look at their upcoming non-Pixar 3D computer animated film Bolt (previously titled “American Dog“). Click on the image above for a super duper high resolution look. Not as impressive as a Pixar screenshot, but if you really start to appreciate this photo while looking at the high resolution version. Look at the blades of grass or the texture on Bolt’s leash. Below we have yet another look at the film’s logo.

Bolt was originally written and directed by Lilo & Stitch creator Chris Sanders, who left the project, and was replaced by Chris Williams. Bolt is a German Shepherd who has lived his whole life on the set of his action Television show, and now believes he has superpowers. He becomes separated from the studio and goes on a journey of a lifetime.. The film features the voice talent of John Travolta, Thomas Haden Church, Woody Harrelson, Bernie Mac, Mario Cantone, Bruce Greenwood, and Hugh Grant.

Bolt will be released in Digital Disney 3-D on 1,200 to 1,500 screens domestically. Bolt hits theaters on November 26th 2008.

Cute. It's worth noting, though, that it appears much of the promo shot is hand-drawn (or... on a graphics tablet or whatever). In fact the cat looks entirely non-cg. I'm sure the end product will look pretty much identical, but just sayin'.

Just FYI, this is a digital painting, nothing more. And for a painting to look like a cg still from a distance, it is DAMN impressive.

This plot sounds like a cross between Toy Story and Firehouse Dog. Or in other words, like every other movie targeted at today's poor kiddies.

I guess there is a reason why you have to be over 18 to purchase a fire arm.

That's a beautiful concept digital painting. If the CG resembles that in any way. I'm totally for it.

I find a lot of Pixar's stuff to be rather dull-looking. I don't know if its the lack of texture or something. But it misses something.

Not as impressive as the Chris Sanders development art from a year ago...

I've got to agree with CB here. Chris Sanders' development art looked phenomenal, even the short clip looked great, but now they've taken that, and turned it into another run of the mill disney movie. Even the new plot isn't original, and is obviously written to bank of the success of toy story.
    A true shame...

    Bolt Lightyear?

Yet another movie I am sure will be shunned by the public because the name "Pixar" is not on it. After all, the multitude of the public believe that "If it's not Pixar, then it's not good"...

It's a shame too, this one looks like it could be good. I look forward to seeing it.

Who the heck cares how detailed his leash is. The level of detail in the rendering does not = good movie.
