Dragonball star Emmy Rossum talks about training and filming with Chow Yun Fat in her latest blog entry:
“Sorry I’ve been rather quiet for a bit, I’ve been working on a very exciting new film that I’m shooting outside the US. I’m working with the great Chow Yun Fat and I’m very excited about the role, which is so different than any role I’ve ever played. I love the character and I’m excited to get to share something so fun with you. In prep for the film I’ve been training very hard, learning how to fight, fire a gun, weapons training and even some martial arts. It’s fun to play such a different character when I am such a pacifist in real life. Speaking of pacifisim and peace, I want to wish everyone a happy, healthy holiday and New Year.”
In Dragonball, Rossum plays Bulma, an inventor/scientist whose father’s Dragon Ball is stolen by Piccolo. James Wong’s live action adaptation of the popular anime series also stars Justin Chatwin, James Marsters, Jaimie Chungand Joon Park. Dragonball will hit theaters on August 15th 2008.

I’m glad Stephen Chow in producing. After seeing his work in Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle, it gives me alot of hope for the action sequences if nothing else. I REALLY think that this movie is going to be based on Dragon Ball though, and not Dragon Ball Z. It’s weird that she’s excited for the role to me… I mean… I can see it I suppose, but still. It gives me more hope none the less though, because if she’s excited about her character and everything, then maybe it WILL be good? Maybe? Please say yes?

At first I was outraged by Emmy Rossum being casted as Bulma. I thought we need someone shameless and sassy as Bulma not sophistocated and pretentious but them I remembered that Bulma was not just spoiled and a little skanky but extremely rich and a super genious. Yup Emmy Rossum will be okay to play Bulma. Anyway despite what people say I think the movie will be good. I also like most of the cast well minus Jamie Chung, if this movie stinks I’ll blame it on her.

I don’t know why a lot of people are skeptical about this movie. Hollywood knows how BIG dragonball is, so they will try their best to do a good job. I was hoping for Krillin cuz he’s awesome…but whatever it would be hard to cast him anyway lol. It’s not sticking to the regular storyline…but they at least have some basic concepts of the show.

How can you say its gone so far off the original storyline? You havn’t seen the movie, or even a trailer yet! The story line is Goku and Bulma go looking for the Dragon Balls to try and get them before King Piccollo wich is exactly what happens in dragon ball! I think this movie will kick ass, its still gonna have fast paced fight scenes and a powered up Sayan fighting a powered up Namek! How much better could the story possibly be? Everyone needs to quit there bitching until they actually see the movie!

How can anyone say it’s not gone far off the storyline!? Some people’s been saying the storyline’s not going to go off trail when the was only a synopsis and casting list, and now look what the set pictures are indicating? And after all this the trailer’s going to take a 180 degree turn to make things look right? Comon, quit having all these pleasant fantacies about the movie and face reality, or else you’ll simply stick yourself out when your friends are boycotting this movie and you’re alone in the cinemas.

Your basing your take on the movie based on set Pics and who they cast? What’s wrong with you? Every single cartoon ever turned into a live action movie needs to loose a little bit of the original story. Because if they took every single detail and put it on the big screen the movie would tank because only people who watched the show would go and see it. They have to appeal to a bigger demographic , so they add in a bit of reality and a couple of hollywoods better looking young actors/actresses. And they are in no way loosing alot of the original story anyway. Goku is still a Sayan, he and Bulma are still looking for the Dragon Ball’s and he is still going to have a kick ass fight with evil King Piccolo, tell me how that is differant from The Show Dragon Ball. You’ll probably say something stupid like Krillen isnt in it, or Goku is in highschool. Grow up!

Speaking of demographics, you know how wide this anime show’s demographic appeal is? And it’s all achieved without this “reality” with Goku in high school and no Krillin.
If Hollywood wants to loosen up on the original story, why not just take a part of the plot and make another movie of a totally different name, instead of calling in ‘The Dragonball Movie’ and not keep anything in it truly Dragonball?

Your just like all those people who thought the live action Transformers movie was a bad idea, as it turns out majority of people loved it. So don’t come crying to me because you think Dragon Ball is this unchangeable god of a show. “Boo hoo Krillen isnt in the movie. and the set photos arn’t right, Whats Goku doing in highschool” You wanna know why they put Goku in highschool, because it sets up great back stories showing how differant he really is from normal people. And because since it’s set in the real world no kid Goku’s age wouldnt be put in school. So quit your complaining about a movie you havnt seen a trailer from you just sound like a huge geek who has never been laid.

No wonder while the majority of the world’s boycotting this movie this country’s still making up excuses to promote it. Having the movie succeed in US box office’s all that counts.
And if the Japanese are lame, then the Americans are preposterous. Who gives a damn for reality in superhero movies besides those dumb teen freaks, anyway? And anybody can see that a kid jumping all over the mountains and can survive bullets is very different from normal people even without all that high school stupidity.

Hey man i never said i was infatuated with the movie. All i said is i am postponing judgment until i see some serious footage. And you sound like such a hippocrit cause you know for a fact you will see this movie when it comes out. And by the way, who Boycot’s movies anyways get a life, cant you think of something better to do with your time then trash movies. I for one am optamistic about the movie, only because the little bits of info that has actually been revealed about the plot, Intrigues me. Im not gonna get all bent out of shape and “Boycot” the movie cause some awkward looking set photo’s popped up on the Internet (which has been known for showing Bull Shit images for Years!!!). I think overall this movie will have good fight scenes, cool visual effects, and enough actual Dragon Ball story to be a good movie. But again i have not seen a trailer for it so i have no idea. Just like all you DBLAM Haters out there have no idea it is going to be bad. I mean seriosuly, You people dont think it would be sick to see James Marsters (Piccolo) smash Justin Chatwin (Goku) into the side of a mountain and then see him power up and blow the mountain away, in live action? Well w/e man i hope the movie does well, but i am not gonna guarentee it. I know that regaurdless of how it looks from trailers(when the first trailer actually comes out) My friends and I will definetly go and see it.

For those who are still holding out in defense of the movie on the basis there is no teaser out yet, try looking for the teaser poster and you’ll see our point.
BTW, these worshippers surely think they have the power of premonition, having seen them repeating this thing about the so-called haters going to see the movie. Maybe we should start saying that they’ll end up boycotting the movie after seeing the teaser.

I have to agree 110% with Kevin. This movie is gonna be off the hook! And any actual Dragon Ball fan would be excited just to see it in life action. Reguardless of wether or not its a little differant from the show. The only differance that i can see between the show and the movie is Goku’s age. But then again i read online that the story is suppose to occur between Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z. All i know is i think the movie will be sick. If nothing else at least there will be bad ass fight scenes. Which in my opinion is the best part of Dragon Ball.

You guys must be under the impression that the people who own the rights to Dragon Ball would let them make a crap movie. Dont you think that they set down some guide lines for them to stick to? I mean the charecters may loose some of their traits due to converting an Anime to live action. But I guarentee you the movie will tons of classic Dragon Ball lines and action. And would everyone please stop saying that Justin Chatwin is too skinny to play Goku, Because this movie is based on Dragon Ball! You know when Goku was a fucking kid! All they did was move the story line up a few years to when Goku was in his late teens. But even still. Goku did not become jacked until he was fighting Vegeta for the first time, so i really dont think you fools should be so conserned about that.

in case you are wondering about the selling of rights, you should know that Fox kicked Toriyama out of the production team because what they were doing to Dragonball fell really short of his expectations and he filed plenty of complaints to them.
Anyways, those who actually think this movie is great even when it actually comes out either don’t have an idea what Dragonball is, or they really have a problem.

Well, Eric N., I won’t be hating Hollywood this much if they haven’t made so many changes to the story and try to sell that all over the world.
And I don’t see how simply Goku, Bulma and Yamcha trying to collect Dragonballs and stop Picolo’s anything close to the story, at least not from how this movie’s going.

Wel tell me what sites you have been visiting to find out info on the actual plot because every single one i’ve been to has said exactly that. And dont even try to act like the entire series of Dragon Ball can’t be summed up in them looking for the dragon balls and then fighting bad guys along the way. Cause that is exactly what it was. They just decided to take the most powerful villain in the show instead of using stupid ones like Emperor Pillof. And there are only 3 major changes to the story and they arnt even huge ones, Goku’s age/No Krillen/ and Goku attends Highschool. Uh oh those three things are gonna kill this movie what are we going to do! lol Give me a break man for all we know Goku only at a highschool, if anything it will show how he would rather train and become strong then learn. I think it would be cool to see like someone try and attack the shool and have Goku just step up and beat them down.

That’s exactly what i think. From what i just read They all get involved with a big martial arts tournament in the movie as well. Sounds an awful lot like DB to me. Unlike some people i cannot judge a movie based on rumors and still frames. W/o hard visual evidence i am not gonna be swayed into hating a movie.

Well, if all the news about this movie’s simply rumours, the casting is actually somebody else and the movie does turn out to follow the book exactly, then I’ll take back what I said.
But right now, every bit of news about this movie indicates it sucks, and those being ‘intelligent’ by saying that it’s still too early for judgement or that the changes are simply minor can just stick themselves out like a sore thumb.

Well the cast rumors are absolutely true and i am fine with who they cast. Chatwin has the same facial structure as Goku. Emmy Rossum looks like Bulma, Joon Park could be a good Yamcha. And i think Chow Yun Fat would an awesome Master Roshi. So i just don’t get how the casting is at all an issue.

I really cannot understand how people can be so dumb as to accept a caucasian guy playing Saiyans. The book even said pure Saiyans have black hair and black eyes, both of which is characteristic of Asians and certainly what Chatwin doesn’t have, so it’s natural for people wanting them to be played by Asians and going on a boycott against the movie when they’re not.
And as I have been saying, those who think the casting looks fine either don’t know the meaning of Dragonball, or are simply fans of Hollywood or those actors.
