I’ve never been a monster of the week type of guy, and always found that format to be quite dull, but somehow I got sucked into watching Smallville, not because it was a good show, but mostly due to the inside superman references. But I began to enjoy the series somewhere between season 1 and season 3. And then, as we all know, the series went down hill with unpredictably bad sci-fi storylines involving past lives and what not. I stopped watching Smallville probably two seasons ago because it just became too much. My like for some of the characters (like Chloe) was overshadowed by the horrible storylines.
One of my huge pet peeves in movies and television is when a woman who doesn’t look like she could hurt a fly, all of a sudden becomes a bad ass fighting machine. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that Women can’t kick ass. Heck, I liked Alias. I just don’t like movies or television shows where they take a skinny young actress and put her on wires. I hold on to a thing called believability. And this was one of the things that turned me off to Smallville. Kristen Kreuk somehow became a supernatural version of The Bride from Kill Bill. She looked so stupid flying through the air, and I felt bad for her. Kreuk is very good with the dramatic scenes, and is an actress who shows her emotions through her eyes.
So why, WHY, WHY has Kristen Kreuk been cast as Chun-Li in the new live-action Street Fighter movie?! Sure, she looks like the part, but I’m just not sold on Kreuk as an action star. And I don’t really have faith that director Andrzej Bartkowiak, who also did Doom and Exit Wounds, will really be able to elevate her game.) The new movie titled Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, revolves around the Chun-Li character, unlike the original Street Fighter film which was an ensemble story (and a bad one at that). Production begins in March 2008.

Seriously, the way you explained your inability to enjoy smallville because you just don’t believe the actors as being badass is exactly how I feel about the Bourne trilogy.
Back to the subject though, Chun-Li couldn’t even carry her own video game, what makes them think she can carry a movie? And besides, these games reached meager fad cool levels like 15 years old. Who’s idea is this?

Um, Kristin Kreuk is very pretty, but not a good actor at all.
December 21st, 2007 at 3:51 pm
She looks exactly like the character. Wow, for once hollywood got the casting right.
Off topic: So, Peter, Joss Whedon must tick you off, eh? Fragile girl, who kicks ass is his whole specialty.

Hellen - I know I’m going to get slammed for this BUT I still don’t understand the appeal of Buffy or Whedon’s other projects. Great dialogue, good characterizations, bad story (again, monster of the week…), cheesy special effects

although i am shocked and sort of laughing at another street fighter remake, i don’t understand why they casted kristen either. i agree that nothing about her screams “i’m gonna kick your ass.” if the studio insists on cranking out another crapfest, at least get a girl who looks the part like kelly hu. she actually looked like she could kick wolverines ass in ‘x-men 2.’ plus, the girls got a black belt in karate!!!!

The first Street Fighter wasn’t bad. It was intentionally cheesy. Raul Julia was awesome! It sounds like, for this one, they’re trying to make it a boring action movie. That ain’t right.

and when was this on the horizon cuz i totally missed this plane well this one is for bittorrent for sure unless they show me something really amazing

What? Another Street Fighter movie? Didn’t they learn from the first one? Or every other video game to movie adaptation ever made? Making games into movies is never a good idea IMO. They never translate well.

Another Street Fighter movie? Proof that Hollywood is truly insane.
I can see Carrot Top as Blanka in the cast list.

- “Kreuk is very good with the dramatic scenes”…WHAT?!!! Maybe you should watch those dramatic scenes again.
- “the original Street Fighter film which was an ensemble story”….No it was a Guile-centric story.
- “I don’t really have faith that director Andrzej Bartkowiak”….He’s the best thing about the movie.

1. Kristen Kreuk as a fighter? Yuck!
2. Street Fighter the movie was god awful. So unless “they” do this right, which by the way, they’re not, don’t bother makin’ another Street Fighter. Save my eyes and everyone else’s from this hellspawn.
3. Most importantly…….most importantly……….MOST IMPORTANTLY….Chun Li is CHINESE! Kristen Kreuk is um…………yeh. The whole continent of Asia will frown on this, lol!
December 26th, 2007 at 4:38 pm
The whole continent of Asia will frown at an asian actress playing an asian character? That may be the stupidest comment I’ve ever heard. Kristen Kreuk is um.. yeah Asian. Lay off the booze before posting doofus.
December 26th, 2007 at 7:14 pm
Just by that comment alone, I’m willin’ to bet you’re one of “those” type of people who actually think Jessica Alba fits the bill for Sue Storm too right? And by the way, I don’t drink, PERIOD! It’s bad for your health DOOFUS :)
December 27th, 2007 at 1:06 am
What kind of a moron doesn’t know Kristen is Asian? Lay off the booze doofus. It’s more generous to attribute your ignorance to drunkeness than stupidity. We’re being kind here.
I’m not sure whether to be more appalled at your racism (”All Yellows must fit my sterotype look”) or your ignorance in not knowing what you’re whining about (Kristen can’t be Asian! She doesn’t fit my Yellow stereotype!).
Such racism disgusts me.

Me! I’m the MORON! The fact of the matter is this, “I don’t watch Smallville.” “I don’t even know who the heck Kristen Kruek is.” By face I’ll recognize her, but by name, NO. You can ridicule me all you want but you’ll just have to get over it. I never knew she was asian because I don’t pay enough attention to her to even recognize it. Racism here? No. Your assumptions, plenty of those. Enjoy your movie, but it won’t be receiving any money from my pocket.

I must admit it is a little narrow minded to pass comment about someone if you know nothing at all about them. On the other hand screaming racism at someone who simply mis-judges someones descent by their looks is equally narrow minded. It would be nice if everyone never pre-judged, it would also be nice if nobody ever incorrectly pulled the racism card.
Anyway, back onto the subject. Kristin’s father is of Dutch descent and her mother of Chinese Descent though born in Indonesia… and is very beautiful for it too.
I disagree that she’s a poor actress and would be saddened if she read these early comments regarding her latest part that all appear to slate her. She’s a very good actress and has proven this through her prior work. I’m pleased for her that she’s landed this part, wish her every success for the future. I hope that she sinks her teeth into this part and many others in the future and prooves each of you wrong.

Artboi
1. She has some background in gymnastics and has a purple belt in karate. What exactly are you “yuck!”-ing for??
2. Don’t pre-judge a movie just like you don’t a person. And no one has to save anyone’s eyes. It’s the owner’s responsibility to do that.
3. Yes, you’re the moron. Saying “most importantly” three times without even knowing what the hell they’re talking about!
I agree with Brit. Kristin’s a very good actress. And she can kick ass, Peter! You haven’t seen enough Smallville! And for Pete’s sake, she can play different roles / different shows!

I’M more of a Mortal Kombat kind of guy, but i would pay nine dollars to see Lana lang kick ass, and About smallville and its sci fi plots. Superman is from space, he is an alien, sci fi threats are bound to follow. putting brainiac on the show was the best decision ever, and personally i think the show gets better with each season.
But back to the point, because you don’t look the part, doesn’t mean you can’t play the part, and it’s about time she moved out of her comfort zone, but i must say i was surprised she took the part, she seems too intelligent to play a buff anime chick.

Hmm I hate smallville with a passion so I wouldn’t dare judge kristen’s acting abilities on her role as Lana Lang. She really does look the part though. I am going to trust that Kristin is going to suprise us by her performance just because I love that they are centering this movie on Chun-Li she was always my favorite street fighter character.
I think that maybe they should dye her hair a little lighter though It looks a bit too dark. Chun-Li’s hair always had a brown sheen to it.
