Jared Hess Returns With Gentlemen Broncos

Jared Hess

Jared Hess broke onto the scene with a small indie comedy at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival. Napoleon Dynamite quickly took over the world, becoming one of the biggest cult blockbusters of all time. Jess followed the film up with Nacho Libre, which sounded like a sure thing - Jack Black as a masked Mexican wrestler. I know the film is popular around kids, but it registered as a huge disappointment to most of the high school and college crowd.

Well Hess is returning to Fox Searchlight, where it all began, to direct a script he again co-wrote with his wife and writing partner Jerusha Hess titled Gentlemen Broncos. The idea sounds like a true return to form, or at least promises a return to form. Broncos follows a high school outcast who’s an aspiring fantasy author, who attends a fantasy convention and discovers that his supposed masterpiece “Yeast Lords” was ripped off by legendary novelist Ronald Chevalier, who has in recent years turned desperate for ideas.

No word yet on casting, but the idea sounds very promising to me. Filming is scheduled to take place next March in Hess’ home state of Utah.

Chevalier sounds like a Bill Murray part.

I didn't know that he had a big collage-making fanbase...

Hess might have been a one-hit wonder. I'll be interested to see if he can redeem himself after Nacho Libre.

I loved Napleon and Nacho. Sure Nacho Libre is not quite so subtle in it's humor...but still I found it hilarious. So many great quotes, characters and horrible accent. Brilliant! I love that I can watch it with my 5yr daughter and we can both enjoy it.
Chancho! I need to borrow some sweats.

Napoleon was great but Nacho rules. It takes several viewing before you start picking up on the tons of subtle moments.
  • I am soooo anticipating this film. In fact, when I heard of this film it was the happiest moment of my life.

Napoleon Dynamite is a modern classic! Nacho Libre is an ven funnier modern classic! I am confident that Gentleman Broncos will be just as funny if not funnier than the previous two! Another modern classic on the way?!

We need more from this team of comedy film makers!

Sorry about all the exclamation points!!!!!!!!
