JoBlo has the teaser trailer for Will Smith’s upcoming superhero comedy Hancock (formerly titled Tonight, He Comes). Their servers are going slow, so I’ve embedded the YouTube version after the jump for the many of you who are having trouble getting the trailer to play.
Tell me what you guys think in the comments below.
Plot: There are heroes… there are superheroes… and then there’s Hancock (Will Smith). With great power comes great responsibility – everyone knows that – everyone, that is, but Hancock. Edgy, conflicted, sarcastic, and misunderstood, Hancock’s well-intentioned heroics might get the job done and save countless lives, but always seem to leave jaw-dropping damage in their wake. The public has finally had enough – as grateful as they are to have their local hero, the good citizens of Los Angeles are wondering what they ever did to deserve this guy. Hancock isn’t the kind of man who cares what other people think – until the day that he saves the life of PR executive Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman), and the sardonic superhero begins to realize that he may have a vulnerable side after all. Facing that will be Hancock’s greatest challenge yet – and a task that may prove impossible as Ray’s wife, Mary (Charlize Theron), insists that he’s a lost cause.
Hancock hits theaters on Wednesday, July 2nd 2008.

what in the world… Will Smith needs to stop doing this dumb movies. He obviously has the ability to act in good films (Ali / The Pursuit of Happyness).

these* dumb movies

As far as I’m concerned we need more of these films that show that superheroes are not as super as they appear to be. I love a decent superhero film as much as the next guy, and Hancock looks as though it may have a certain touch to it that will make it popular in the genre.

Only thing I can say about this movie is it’ll make it’s budget back.
December 17th, 2007 at 2:42 pm
Personally.. I think this film has a ton of potential. But yeah.. lets hope it doesn’t turn into My Super Ex-Girlfriend.

Oh god, that looks terrible.

We have seen Will Smith fight aliens. We have seen Will Smith fight robots. We have even seen Will Smith fight vampires… now we get to see Will Smith fight bad guys as a superhero. I have to say though, the movie looks like it will be cool. I am gonna see it.

This will probably suck. But maybe, just maybe, we’ll finally get a good superhero comedy. Gosh knows they’ve tried and most have really, really sucked. Which is weird, since the superhero genre is rife for comedy. And certainly the books themselves have plenty of examples. Heck, someone should make an Ambush Bug movie!! Now I’d pay to see that.

Yeah lets judge a movie by it’s 2 minute trailer even though the movie isn’t even done filming yet. You got to love these idiots. How do you know it’s a dumb movie? This just proves how America’s education system is nothing but a piece of shit system going down the drain when you got idiots criticizing a movie that isn’t even done filming yet. You never judge a book by it’s cover, yet time and time again American idiots have to judge something or someone when they have NO F*CKEN CLUE about that something or someone.

Thing abt Will Smith is his success at juta bout every genre - Oscar-winning dramas, sci-fi, horror, action flicks, romance … and lame comedies. He juggles all of these. Hancock looks awesomely funny.

As much as I think this movie’s not gonna do well in the eyes of critics and fans everywhere..
we all know in the end.. that Will Smith will also bank money on this one.
There’s just something about him and box office success, either that or he’s just the most likable actor of today’s generation

I think this has potential to be funny. In comics and movies superheroes cause damage to surrounding structures all the time. Though it appears Hancock does it mostly out of being careless and not caring. The last part with the whale cracked me up!

The trailer was pretty funny, and I love the idea of people getting pissed because of all the damage. Plus, it’s got Jason Bateman, and he’s awesome.

Love the style. Love the effect. Love Will Smith. But let’s face it, even if I hated this it’d still get like $400 million
December 17th, 2007 at 8:19 pm
Forget WIll Smith for a second, this film has Jason Bateman AND Charlize Theron. How can you go wrong?
December 17th, 2007 at 11:54 pm
Another massive smash.
Then Smith will star in a challenging role in a smaller movie. You just gotta love the guy.
December 18th, 2007 at 1:45 am
Mmh, I’m not sure yet…But that whale bit sure was funny!

“You got to love these idiots”
Fitting since you seem to have a childish name attached to your politically-pushed low grade attack. Will Smith movie trailer + the American educational system. Amazing leap in logic there Einstein.
Anyway, this trailer has the same feel found in the Men In Black films. We’ll see, since I thought the second MIB film was terrible. But the first one was pretty good.

Yeah, I don’t know if that’ll be any good, but that bit with the whale was hilarious.

oh my god …why does every movie have tooo be amazing what ever happend to just goin to the movies to be entertained …of course will smith is a good actor, and could play better roles ..but cant a good actor play in a fun movie..the guy has kids and he is a naturally funny guy….i will see this movie, it looks perfect for a summer release.

What’s wrong with you bores?
The trailer is funny because it SPOOFS the stupid fetish that modern brain-deprived give-me-ma-popcorn Hollywood audiences have with drivel like “Heroes” and other more cinematic superheroes…Spidey, Bat, Super, fantastic four, xmen…I mean how many do we need??
Having a superhero who plays it cool in bermuda shorts and cheeses off on all that’s been cheesy already for the last many years, is awesome. If the trailer doesn’t speak to you, then don’t watch the film, simple. It certainly speaks to me. Do you like adolescent BS like “Heroes”? Have you seen the DVD billings of that crap?
And I think Will Smith is the PERFECT choice. He’s funny, classy without all the makeup and paraphernalia and the capes and the sh*t, and he’s BLACK (yeah, African American, or whatever the flavor of the month is).
Anyone remember a major black superhero so far? Right. I think this looks bold and funny.
And get off your highhorses about CGI. It looks perfect. The last Youtube reference shows a video that looks candy-cam enough. The reference to “financial toll” is SO true. All these idiotic superheroes destroying towns and rails and buildings, but the audience just laps it up.
Peace..
