The new trailer for Will Farrell’s Semi-Pro is now online. Looks like another generic Will Farrell comedy, which might be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on your age range.
Farrell stars as Jackie Moon, the owner-coach-player of the American Basketball Association’s Flint Michigan Tropics, who “rallies his teammates to make their NBA dreams come true.” The film also stars Woody Harrelson, Andre Benjamin, Maura Tierney, and Jackie Earle Haley. Kent Alterman makes his feature directorial debut.

Variety has an article about a tour that they are doing to promote Funnyordie and Semi-Pro. Its gonna have Farrell, Zach Galifianakis, Demetri Martin and Nick Swardson. Sounds awesome, but It looks like they are skippin the West Coast.

Wow, Will Ferrell acting silly in a stupid sports movie where he is all kinds of wacky! Never…. seen him play that character before…..
And yeah THANK GOD theyre skipping the west coast. Nick Swardson is the one person on this planet that does not deserve to be famous. He always cameos in crappy comedies and makes them WORSE.

Say what you will about Will Ferrell, but the guy has the character that Jim Carrey should have followed. “Stranger Than Fiction” was by far as good if not better than “The Truman Show” and Ferrell’s comedies deliver what his audience wants.
Remember when “Ace Ventura,” “The Mask” and “Dumb and Dumber” (especially) came out in rapid succession. Everyone was stoked, b/c Carrey was a clever comedian for the people that critics didn’t know what to make of. But then he got all dark and gloomy and his comedies become more formulaic than Ferrell (compare “Liar Liar” to his upcoming “Yes Man”) and way less funny.
I am stoked on “Semi Pro” simply because any movie with Woody Harrelson playing a basketball player is golden. As for Ferell, wait for the upcoming “Step Brothers” - a hard R comedy that is going to be a classic.

Are you kidding me? Nick Swardson is hilarious! Have you ever heard his stand-up? The guy is amazing. And Fucking Super-Terry from Reno 911? Who doesn’t like Super-Terry?!?
December 6th, 2007 at 4:38 pm
Nick Swardson is damn HILARIOUS! From reno 911 to all his side characters. He just eeds a great character and some good direction.
Will Ferrell is a damn genius. He makes any movie he is in. I’ll admit that Talladega isn’t his best film but he’s a natural talent. I’m looking forward to this and it should be HILARIOUS.
Any comedian that can get such a crappy role and actually make something GOOD out of it is cool in my book!
Will Ferrell all over you! ALL OVER YOU!

What does the bear thing or the rollerskating thing have to do with basketball?
December 6th, 2007 at 7:06 pm
Obviously you’ve never been to a Semi-Pro game, they do those kinda of stupid promotions all the time!
December 6th, 2007 at 7:11 pm
yes hooby, if you were unable to deduce from the trailer, the bear and roller-skating was to intended to draw a crowd to the game.
additionally, Jezzus, Will Ferrell sucks. A lot. The guy has one funny character he just keeps rehashing. I know he is a good actor (stranger than fiction) but everybody wants ron burgundy.
That isn’t natural talent. thats a character he found by blind luck.
sorry to break it to you.

Trsut me I know how people feel. Everyone wants people to keep being funny forever. And as soon as they detect anything similar in a role they say it’s people rehashing roles.
Let’s look at some roles….
Austin Powers - Mufasa, he was funny before anyone even knew who he was. I still laugh when I see him in this movies
Zoolander - Mugatu - Played the part well, and I can’t imagine anyone else playing it better.
Jay and Silent Bob - Ranger - Hilarious!
Elf - Buddy - I’m sorry but if you ever knew what it was like to be a kid you’d like this movie. I personally think it’s on of his better roles.
Old School - Frank the Tank - He stole EVERY damn scene he was in
Anchorman - Ron Burgandy - Obviously he best comedic work up until now. Classic!
Kicking and Screaming - Phil - I’m a Bears fan, and the Ditka impersonation was hilarious. Plus the part where he told the lady in the coffee shop “Are we doing this? Is this happening?” Has to be one of the greatest lines Ive ever heard from will Ferrell.
Wedding Crashers - Again he stole every scene he was in
Stranger than Fiction - Proved he was a good actor.
Talledega Nights - Ricky Bobby - He failed to deliver in my book. It was funny but not THAT funny.
Blades of Glory - Will delivered in this movie. Every line and scene he was in he nailed it. He carried Napolean on his back the whole movie and the brother and sister actors weren’t even a little bit funny. The story sucked by you could tell it was chipped from the same wack story structure that every other writer gets from. But if you watch Will delivered.
Thats not even including the SNL skits that my friends STILL quote until this day.
I’m still not sure about this Semi Pro movie but as a fan I’ll be watching it anyway. Not every flm after Anchorman can be a classic. Give the dude a break.

I won’t go see this movie. But the trailer was funny.

Can’t wait to see it! :)

Snooze fest…did laugh once thru the entire trailer …..more Kicking and Screaming than Talledega Noghts….

The best thing about this crappy(said in a nice way) movies like this one is that you don’t have to think! This is why I see these types of movies. No message, no social cause, just fun-a stress reliever for me. Keep you expectations of “theater” and “acting” low and you’ll have a great time. That ain’t Shakespeare folks. Although that would be pretty damn funny, Farrell playing Hamlet, I’m peeing myself already. LOL
I would like to see Will Farrell, Dana Carvey, Mike Myers, Jack Black and Ben Stiller do something. Perhaps a remake of Spinal Tap.
I laugh just looking at these guys. Funny as hell.
