If I had to make a list of the top 10 movies I’m excited about for 2008 (note: I once tried, but came up with 55 movies instead), Be Kind Rewind would be front and center.
Michel Gondry’s film captures the magic of movies and filmmaking, and a weird, quirky and totally original comic plot starring Jack Black and Mos Def. This week it was announced that Gondry will premiere the film at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival. I’m very excited to see it. Check out the new theatrical poster after the jump.

Director: Michel Gondry
Starring: Jack Black, Mia Farrow, Danny Glover, Mos Def, and Melonie Diaz
Jerry (Jack Black) is a junkyard worker who attempts to sabotage a power plant he suspects of causing his headaches. But he inadvertently causes his brain to become magnetized, leading to the unintentional destruction of all the movies in his friend’s (Mos Def) store. In order to keep the store’s one loyal customer, an elderly lady with a tenuous grasp on reality, the pair re-create a long line of films including The Lion King, Rush Hour, Ghostbusters, When We Were Kings, Back to the Future, Driving Miss Daisy, and Robocop , putting themselves and their townspeople into it. They become the biggest stars in their neighborhood.
Be Kind Rewind hits theaters on January 25th 2008.

I’m still a bit skeptical about this one. The Science Of Sleep was kind of a stumble for Gondry after Eternal Sunshine. Sure, it wasn’t nearly as bad as Human Nature, but it felt kind of blah. We’ll see what happens with this one though. I’d like for it to be great. Here’s hoping.
