Armie Hammer is Batman

Armie Hammer is Batman

Earlier today Megan Gale was confirmed as Wonder Woman, and now IESB has confirmed previous rumors that 21-year-old Armie Hammer has been cast as Batman in George Miller’s live-action Justice League of America. Hammer has the physical stats of the Dark Knight, standing 6 foot 5 inches tall. Hammer has had small roles in Veronica Mars and Desperate Housewives, and the films Flicka and Blackout. I’m sure most fans will be pissed that “Abercrombie Guy” is taking on the iconic comic book role. Justice League is sounding worse and worse every day now.

When it comes to movies I like to wait and see it for myself to pass judgment. For example, when I first heard that Robert Downy, Jr. was going to be Tony Stark I thought...no way...it will suck. I was 100% wrong. I thought the same about Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in X-Men. I liked the first 2 X-Men movies as well. Yet there are some movies I thought I would like but hated. I was not fond of the third X-Men or the third Spider-Man. They were so so. It was not the actors but the directing that was horrible. I would love to see a cool JLA movie but there is always that chance that any comic book movie will suck royally. I think you should let the stories be written by comic book writers with directors who have a passion for it. I like Tim Burton but hated his Gotham City. I thought I would like King Kong but it was too dark and gorey for my taste. I love Sean Connery but League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was completely wrong. some did not like the last Indiana Jone but I loved it. I reserve my judgment for JLA when it hits the screen, I can remove my Darth Vader mask and I can see it with my own eyes.

during this period Right Now!!!!!!we all think on batman and we think Christian Bale he is the batman of this moment, Superman was Christopher Reeves and for me he was the best but right now for this generation Superman is Brandon Routh i'm talking about faces that people of this time already know and see them as those characters, now if they will do this great awesome movie!! they should know!!! that if they change!!! the face of those characters that have been played by another actor during this time for a looooot of peopleeeee this movie is going to suckkkkk!!!
  • I am a big DC comic fan so I'd like to point out that the young Bruce is thought of as a bit of a good looking pretty boy
  • this is CRAP!!! those guys at WB r going to blow this up with that stupid cast! I mean, young C-list actors to play the roles of all-time iconic characters??!!! How about THIS cast?-- Ben Affleck as Superman, Christian Bale as Batman, Angelina Jolie as Wonder Woman, Ryan Reynolds as The Flash, Josh Duhamel as Green Lantern/Hal Jordan, Gerard Butler as Hawman, Lena Headey as Hawkgirl, Tom Jane as Aquaman and Kate Beckinsale as Huntress. Throw in some A-list Actor for the Green Arrow role and as for the villains, How about Cole Hauser as Lex Luthor??...Now get rid of that lame aussie director and get Bryan Singer or Brett Ratner and maybe a Gough/Millar's script and then we'll have a movie worth watching! It'll KICK A$$!!!
  • daijada
cant a brother get a role damn. you throwning Green Lantern / John Stewart under the bus
  • mark
well Hal was there for the beginnings then john came, so if this is the start of the JLA then Hal would be in the movie, not John
  • Jaye
no one knows what the story line for this movie is going to be yet its SOOOOOO wrong to cast a 21 year old as batman...what did he waltz outta the womb being the dark knight? I think not. As for casting people we dont know I believe its better that way..i mean how good was Halle Berry as Catwoman..? Not trying in anyway to discredit her in anyway but come on now? Can we give the movie a chance if it flops then it flopped....Megan Gale was an awesome choice for Wonder Woman..she's taller than all the boys lol just like the cartoons...n guys lets remember maybe this film is targeted for a younger audience where batman hasnt become Gotham Citys newest vigilante....
  • i thought he's going to be the ROBIN ....
he looks more like ROBIN to me...
  • TTK
Warner Bros. come on! There is no better Batman / Bruce Wayne Than Christian Bale! I will not watch this movie if CB is not batman! This is horrible all the hard work that Chris nolan has put into giving the Dark Knight some respect and Warner Bros. want to make that nil!
go to www.ipetition.com/petition/baleandnolaninjlamovie and sign on if you want them in the JLA movie

I agree with JT on this one, the looks could be fixed up with better make up (and the fact that he should be in his suit most of the time) and the height with good camera angles, but the age is the real problem. If this film is set after Batman Begins then how can they possibly justify having a younger actor? I don't have a problem that they haven't cast Christian Bale, even if he did a wonderful job, I just think that the Armie was a ridiculous choice.
  • JT
The problem here isn't looks. The problem isn't talent. The problem is AGE. Batman played by a 21 year old? BIG mistake. Personally, I've only ever seen one actor who's looks bely his age, and that honor goes to Harrison Ford.

But this is where Nolan's Batman Begins really slams it down on this stuff, because it paints a vivid picture of Wayne's youth, and it shows the steady development of character. Things don't happen overnight. Heck, Bruce didn't officially become Batman until a few weeks after returning to Gotham.

But here, you have a 22 year old Batman. I guess he traveled abroad and trained during rich boy field trips. Either that or he dropped out of school. Oh, wait, he's supposed to be really smart, right? As is, college educated? No matter how gifted, you START figuring out what to do with your life at 21.

So, throw out your opinions, fans. Let the creators know how you feel about this. After, that same fervor from devoted fans was what ultimately got Peter Cullen into the audition chair for Transformers.

Oh, and Batman is NOT 6'5".
  • Katie
I think I might go cry now.....
I think they should stop making DC movies, they just end up ruining the character..
I just watched Catwoman, it almost made me cry
  • hi. i'm a comics artist from Trinidad & a big Batman fan. This is 1st time i'm posting ever. My prob w/ EVERY Batman film has been the focus on his toys. Alex Ross' take on it is the opp but every1 luvs it. Superman Returns was boring & cast 2young/badly but I'm grateful 4 a modern update. Fans will never b satisfied. A 6'5" Bats? Great. Mayb he can b intimidating 4once. Don't get wrong I love Bale. But I've grown not2 xpect 2much hollywood since most of the Box Office $ comes people who don't read comics.

please dont make this movie cheesy T_T
  • Harry Bryant
This movie is going to be terrible.
I read what to expect from Sci-Fi news months earlier and the rumors and reports confirmed that this was going to be crap.
I like the girl playing Wonder Woman, simply, because of her look for the character.
It looks like she can pull that off.
    As far as acting though...
    Thats something entirely different.
The guy playing Batman looks to be wrong for the role.
    But who knows.
I love comic books and have grown up with them but studios care nothing for quality or continuity.
It`s all about what they think will get the most people in theater seats and will double their investment.
Thats why movies suck so bad.
    Oh...
And by the way..., in case anyone is interested Samuel L. Jackson is going to play Nick Fury the agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. .
I love Samuel L. Jackson but I am tired of seeing actors who aren`t suited for roles being put in them, simply, because of the politically correct times that we live in.
I am not a racist or anything of the sort, its just that I wouldn`t put a caucasian male in the role of an African American because it doesn`t make sense.
Nick Fury is white, not black.
Where is the sense in that.(?)
Example, remember when the studios were going to put Chris Rock in the roleo f Jimmy Olsen?
    I sure as hell do.
    I love Chris Rock.
He is one of my favorite comedians but it doesn`t make sense to have him in the role of a white character.
    It`s just stupid.
    One more example.
    Daredevil.
Another great black actor, Michael Clarke Duncan.
    Him as Kingpin???!!!
    WTF?!
It really does seem to me like an act of reverse racism.
Where the studios are saying, "Look..., we aren`t racist. We put a black guy in the role of a white character".
You don`t need to put a black gentleman in the role of a white character to point out that you`re not racist.
If you`re not, then you`re not.
Pointing things out makes you look guilty or that you`re catering to the NAACP for brownie points.
    Wait a minute...
    I got a great idea...
How`s about we save the black roles for, oh, say, the black super heros?
    What a great idea!
The Black Panther is a personal favorite of mine and I would love to see him played by some of the great up and coming African American talent out there.
The Falcon is another great that I would love to see.
My apologies for rambling but the choices studios make are just so stupid and idiotic.
In closing Michael Jai White was the perfect choice for the lead in Spawn.
  • Zel
I think everyones apprehension revolves around the idea that there are soo many characters to making a JLA film. There is almost too much to do. Some sort of cross over type film to me is a better idea or a series of movies based on the concept of the development of the JLA.

When you throw in totally new characters never presented in modern day live action the anxiety amplifies. So I am both excited and apprehensive at the same time. This will not be easy to get this right under any circumstance.
  • Kevin
let's get the final cast before we start to judge. In addition I have in the past I originally disliked initial casting for both wolverne and spiderman. However, after seeing the movies I was pleasantly suprised by their portrayal of the respective characters. Let's see what we get and decide then....
    K
  • gtrmn7
They are trying to cast all unknown people so viewers focus more on the characters, rather than the actors playing the characters.
  • KEL
David you are SO RIGHT!! Damn Straight!! I completely agree with you,he's Batman NOT Iron Man!! If it's bullet, flame, and shock proof to a degree that's MORE than enough,IMO. The movie suits completely suck. Every. Damned. One. Of. Them. Not only are they ridiculously armored/plastic looking and utterly unflexible, they have little to NO resembleance to the comic book style Batman suit, which was black, gray, and a darkish yellow. They need to make the movie suits more flexible and get the color (shade?) scheme of the suit right,it needs to be black and gray on the areas that it's black and gray in the comics.

Fight the power,David! There are a lot of jackasses out there who have NO respect for the comix, especially the Batman suit, they only care about making a damn action figure,so keep it up with your stand on the batsuit my brother! :-D
  • David
Well, as for the suit, in my personal subjective tastes...it sucks. Actually there's nothing wrong with the design and such...it's just not the way I would have gone. The crappy earlier Batman movies made the same move, going from the simple to "Iron Batman", continually making him more and more armored and high-tech. I don't like it. The guy was never supposed to be Iron Man. He was supposed to be just a guy, a good detective and crazy smart strategic thinker...not someone who could physically take on super powered people. Oh well, that's just me. I liked the idea of the bullet/knife proof battle suit...but don't over do it. I don't want to see laser and missiles coming out of the damn thing. :)
  • KEL
David, dude,I get what you're saying and agree with you for the most part. I was just saying that's how I want the suit to look in the movie.;-D
  • David
Who CARES about the height...that's just a matter of shooting angle. Tom Cruise & Sylvester Stallone are 'short' but always look like at least as tall as their bad guys in their movies.

What bugs me to NO end is the age. 21? I know the the fanatic fan nitpicking is annoying, but this is just a matter of internal movie logic. It makes no sense. Why would a 21-25 year old Batman be IN the JLA. Batman wasn't even Batman until late 20s...even then he's have to have been around the block quite a while to draw the attention of the JLA characters (until then he was just a local 'rumored' vigilante). It's not a matter of nitpicking what color his costume should be...it just doesn't make logical sense.
  • johnnyonthespot
for doh-doh.....see i understand what your saying but IMO michael keaton didnt embody batman whatsoever so i dont really think you can say nuff said cause as great as michael was he still wasnt right for the part and id say you don't know batman if you think he was ..he was about 511 and certainly did not fill out the batsuit the way batman would and in the modern era of film complete character transformation is expected by the actors and it should be that way with a character of batman's popularity...second i dont know what azrael has to do with nething but if you must know he was the same height and weight as batman which helped to fool everyone who didn't know bruce was gone....and also im sure you would agree that making someone appear taller IE michael keaton or christian bale looking 6 2 is much more easily accomplished than making them look shorter....and i think you really missed the point as to what i was saying....its clear in the comics that superman is bigger than batman and thats something that they should not mess with regardless of what you may think..so all i was saying is if this is true and hammer is batman they better look to there nearest NBA team to find a superman or green screen the hell out of him
  • KEL
I agree with what Brad said, before X-Men,Hugh Jackman was in the Guiness book of world records for being the only straight man that was familiar with and played in so many musicals. (Seriously!)

So,cut Armie some slack, folks. Batman is 6' 2' in the comix and this guy is actually TALLER by 3 inches!! If this is true,I hope the guy playing Superman is taller than him,cuz in the comix Superman's always been 6' 4',2 inches taller than Batman. If this dude is playing Batman, they'd better dye his hair black and make sure they have the Batman suit dark gray and black on the areas on the suit that's supposed to be dark gray and black according to the comix. They could make him look older if they wanted, but he's going to be wearing a cowl so we'll only be seeing the lower chin and mouth areas on his face,so it's not THAT BIG a deal,IMO.

I'm totally pro JLA movie,I just want it to be done right. ;-)

Oh,and if Hal Jordan is GL in this flick or if he's GL in the GL film,I personally believe that DAVID BOREANAZ would be SUPERBLY EXCELLENT in the role. Not only does he sound like what we fans would imagine Hal to sound like,as evidenced in the upcoming JL:the New Frontier animated movie, but he LOOKS LIKE HIM TOO and is THE PERFECT AGE FOR GREEN LANTERN HAL JORDAN!! Cast him as GL and you'll have done perfect casting!
  • TheDohDoh
    @johnny

was michael keaton 6 feet tall?

nuff said. honestly, height is of no concern. batman has changed height many times. they even broke his back and had that az-bat with the metallic dracula suit. if bob dylan can be played by a woman and a black kid, batman can lose or gain a few inches.

as for the strike. they haven't even started shooting this film yet. they've finally cast two of the major characters. by the time they start shooting i feel the strike will have stopped. nothing is being rushed - look how long we've awaited the names for the actors to this project.
  • Jeff
They should just call this move Justice League 90210. Everything i've seen and heard about this movie is like some horrible dream. With everything going so amazing with the Chistopher Nolan Batman series why even touch the character, especially with casting like this.
  • Brad
I can see being skeptical about Armie Hammer...I am too. But the fact is that we don't see what a director sees at a screen test or audition. Armie Hammer may be perfectly cast...He may not be.
We'll just have to wait and see.
I would like to point out that
in the original X-Men movie, the (arguably) most popular
character was not only not played by an A-List celebrity, but
Wolverine was played by a virtually unknown, untested actor. It
was because of that movie that anyone now knows who
    Hugh Jackman is today.
  • Brad
Actually Johnny, I think your points are really solid. Most people are just complaining because The WB or George Miller or whoever are not casting who THEY want in the roles. And even still,
    you're keeping an open mind.

And do you see the level of auotomatic hate? A couple of us
come and support this movie and we get accused of being
plants by the WB. I believe I may have once applied for
a job at a WB store at Oak Park Mall in Kansas...Sorry, but
    I didn't even get the job...and that's the closest I've come to
    working for the WB.
  • KEL
Hmmmm. Good choice,IMO. If anything,he's just a little young. Who knows? He could be Batman's Chris Reeve. :-)
  • johnnyonthespot
Ok heres the thing...batman is not even close to six five...hes six two...and i kno alot of you think im being ridiculous...but seriously in this day and age physically filling the role is very important....now hugh jackman did great as wolverina and he was almost a foot taller than the character so ill give hammer the benefit of the doubt...but also batman is and always has been shorter than superman...unless superman is six-six or taller then there gonna break that mold...also I'm sorry if you think I'm too fanboyish but Batman is a beloved character and to give a character with such a rich and lengthy history to an untested model/actor is a really really questionable move and I think fans of batman have every right to be skeptical. I actually think its great that christian bale isnt the only one allowed to play batman...in the comics different artists interpret him differently and I'm very happy that they are letting that type of mindset into films. However, if they screw this up and people react negatively Warner Bros. might lose a chance to create a whole new approach to comic book movies...where one could come out with one actor and then another could come out about the same character but with a differnt actor and look....that to me is what comic books are and if that is translated to movies I think it would be a monumental success
  • AntiPopular2U
My problem is not with the director. And although I'm not thrilled with who they are casting, I'm willing to give them a chance, even if it's a CW-cast.

Where I have a problem is how they seemed to rush this movie into production. They have "one" script that they are filming from, and with the writer's strike going on, that means no re-writes. Have you ever heard of a film being made without some sort of re-write? I can't think of any.

So that leaves me with the question, why not wait until the strike is over? The only answer I come up with is. They don't care about the material they are putting out there as long as it makes them money. No matter how good the director is or how good we hope the actors are. It always comes down to money.
  • thehour
Go back to your boss and tell him to spend money on a better cast instead of PR shills.

The putrid stink from this piece of garbage is overwhelming. Wretched casting isn't something PR spamming can turn around, it's an innate flaw. But there is still time to turn it around. Projects are falling through everyday, freeing up real actors. Convey this message higher up and you can be the hero that saves the day. Or turtle your head, continue the rounds, and risk being one of the many staffers getting axed during the strike.
  • TheDohDoh
Thank you Brad. I'm not sure why people have lost so much faith in George Miller. I'm guessing they are under 20 and have never seen "Mad Max" and have too much hormonal-pride to watch "Babe."

That said, I'm usually the first to decry the CW-casting-syndrome that has infected horror, comedy and action cinema today. But these are actors/actresses that have gone untested (and even Adam Brody isn't intolerable, he was great on Entourage), so I'm glad Brad is standing up to these internet chatterers. This is a film we should be stoked on : it's going to look totally different from any comic movie before it (Miller, we trust!) and the idea of a well-done poppier-toned comic book epic is kinda cool actually.
  • Brad
And how do you know that these people are untalented!? Not famous or Not Christian Bale doesn't mean they're untalented!
  • Brad
Christian Bale is NOT Batman! He is an actor...another actor who is playing the fictional character of Batman/Bruce Wayne. Yes, he is very good, but that doesn't mean he's the only actor who can play the character or even play him well. Can Armie Hammer pull it off? I don't know. Do I have an automatic reaction to him being so young and playing this part; yes. Am I going to give him and this movie a chance because I'm so excited about it...You betcha!
And one of you was right; as far as I can tell, I'm the only person I've seen on line that is truly excited about this movie...however, comic book fans and people who sit around spreading their negative opinions online are (thankfully) not the only people who go and see movies...they aren't even the majority.
I personally don't understand what's wrong with just enjoying a movie...People have been complaining about this film since it has been announced, before there were any actors or even screenwriters or a director attatched...It seems like you were going to hate it no matter what.
What I know about this movie; It's the first time all of these characters have been put on screen together in a "real" film (my automatic reaction is excitement, not disgust at how crappy it's going to be), They didn't cast Bale or Routh (which I don't think is a bad thing, because otherwise they would have to cast all known celebrities to counter Bale at least and I think this film should be about the characters and not the actors...and this isn't another Batman movie), they seem to be following a really good storyline from the DC universe that will allow great moments for all characters both physically and emotionally, they hired a great director who has made great films from all genres and has won praise, and awards from the public and critics alike...
That's what I know about this movie. Yeah That sounds crappy.
  • Deb
If Miller is more in love with the effects than the actors then this piece of shit needs to be flushed now. Just let him do an animated cgi justice league and he can play with his effects toys all he wants without marring it with a garage sale cast.
  • TheDohDoh
If George Miller can make me watch and enjoy two movies starring a pig, I think I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. I am happier with the decision for a no-name Wonder Woman than if it was Jessica Biehl.

I don't think you can slight George Miller the same way you can the director of The Fantastic Four movies. The guy has a diverse portfolio, and so what if he directed "Happy Feet" - which is one of the more complex animated films not from Pixar. Obviously, he is holding out his budget for epic special effects, and with Miller, that means something we might get something special.

Just because a person looks like a model doesn't mean they can't act, and I hate CW-horror like the The Hitcher remake. I am far more worried and skeptical of JJ Abrams Star Trek reboot, which has cast a motley stew of known-names and the original actors that I can't imagine mixing right.

I think we could alleviate the dread for JLA if Miller would come out and say what the hell he is doing with it, and I think once the first stills pop out and wow people, that will also help. Miller wouldn't wreck every DC superhero for the sake of cash. He's not that type of director and he's turned down plenty of "Congo"-type cash-in projects over the years. Capice?
  • AntiPopular2U
TheDohDoh: I think that going with a different vision is all well and good, and people are going to complain no matter what. I'm sure there are people out there who didn't like Nolan's Batman.

And I'm sure that Miller is a fine director. However, if you look at the talent (or lack there of) of the people playing the characters, it's hard not to conclude that this is nothing more that a "pointless franchise directed at morons and buy-anything Wal-Mart shoppers."

Because people will go see this movie, including all those who complained about it, just based on the characters. That also includes all those who post messages on various boards across the net. Then the studios collect your money, the messages keep on posting, and next year we are here doing the same thing except it now JLA2.

It's not going to stop. That's the way the business works. So sit back and watch all the drones keep posting thier comments, and hope that one day we all pull our heads out of our asses and just stop going to these awful movies.
  • @TheDohDoh

Love the cliche '30 and living with mom' response
  • TheDohDoh
You know what, I don't have a problem with this movie. It's a little depressing hearing 30 year old guys who live with their moms proclaiming that every superhero movie has to fulfill their 'serious quota,' If you look at the Justice League cartoon and even some of the comics, it's never as serious as Frank Miller's Dark Knight or most stand alones.

If Miller went for a 30something Batman, a lot of these protesters would complain that only Bale is Batman. It's obvious Miller is going for a different vision here and he's a damn good and smart action director. You can't bitch at the movie industry for doing what the comic industry has long done. Justice League was invented to sell more comics - the mythos wasn't included when Batman or Supes first started.

If anything, hopefully this movie allows Nolan to go darker with the next Batsy movie. If he's targeting a younger audience why beat him to a pulp on the internet? At least he's not making the "Fantastic 4" - some pointless franchise directed at morons and buy-anything Wal-Mart shoppers.

I mean, anyone getting upset over fucking Wonderwoman, a campy character/comic in the first place, needs to go to the spa and chill the fuck out.
  • littlejerryseinfeld
    JLA: The High School Years.

I wonder if they'll have time to be super heroes, and STILL attend West Beverly High.
  • Brody
Christian Bale is Batman. This little fuckhead can go pound sand.
  • Pat
AJ they want them to be able to "grow into their roles" :[
  • Wow. This movie is going to suck.
  • well...he might do alright...if his mommy lets him stay out late...
this movie is looking worse and worse...there must be some very serious studio pressure behind these decisions...and we all know how that goes.
  • A.J.
This cast is a mess, I hope they don't screw it up. Why the hell are they stacking the cast with all these kids.
  • Clarence Somerset
it sounds like a direct-to-video thing ... with a big budget.

on the other hand, its not impossbile for a fun movie can be made out of it - nothing serious, just balls of fun.
