JoBlo has posted the first photo of Adam Sandler in his new comedy You Don’t Mess with the Zohan, which is directed by Dennis Dugan.
Dugan was once a great comedy director, having directed some of Sandler’s better films (Big Daddy, Happy Gilmore). Recently however, Dugan has turned out more than a couple bombs: Chuck & Larry, The Benchwarmers, National Security, Saving Silverman, Beverly Hills Ninja, Brain Donors and Problem Child.
Zohan’s screenplay was a collaboration between three comedy greats: Judd Apatow (40-Year-Old-Virgin, Knocked Up), Robert Smigel (SNL) and Adam Sandler. The film stars Sandler as an Israel Intelligence Agent who fakes his death so he can anonymously move to New York and become a hair stylist. Sounds like a promising SNL sketch, but a full length feature film?
The photo above (click to enlarge) gives me the same feeling. Good actors transform into their characters, but instead Sandler looks to be doing an imitation of a character in the photo above. I could be wrong, but I’m expecting the worst.
You Don’t Mess with the Zohan hits theaters on June 6th, 2008.

Brain Donors may have been a financail bomb but it’s only because the film barely got a release. It’s actually a fairly fun remake of NIGHT AT THE OPERA with John Turturro of all people in the Groucho role.

Wah? Did you call Saving Silverman a bomb? That movie is awesome, though it would have been better w/o that pie f’er.

I can’t believe you call Beverly Hills Ninja a bomb!? That movie is classic Chris Farley and still funny every time I watch it

Although rediculous the concept seems kind of funny but hopefully it doesnt bomb like previous movies, because Adam Sandler is hilarious.

Saving Silverman is one of the most underrrated comedies ever. Very FUnny movie in my opinion

Brain Donors came out in 1992. I would hardly consider this to have come out recently.

“Problem Child”? That movie came out when I was 7. Recently? It also kinda rocked, as did “Problem Child 2″ They’re both in the cult section of the local video store (that should just call it quits).
That film dates pre-Sandler.
“Saving Silverman” is a huge college cult comedy.
Why can’t Sandler make an R-rated flick for once?

bah, abandon this auteur theory that just because a movie has a director with a less-than-incredible track record, the movie will suck. look at the writing! if they get some real talent in the acting department (and they already have sandler), there’s a huge chance it’ll be great.

Did Sandler lose some weight for this movie? He’s been a fatty lately haha.

Saving Silverman, Beverly Hills Ninja, and Brain Donors? Three movies that can be watched anytime and make me laugh everytime should be not be considered bombs. And none are that recent. They might not have done well at the box office, but give these ones credit.

I’ll throw my hat in and say Saving Silverman, Beverly Hills Ninja, Brain Donors and Problem Child were all funny movies. I’ll even got the extra mile and The Benchwarmers wasn’t horrible. It was merely ok. But any reason to watch Jon Lovitz…

i have seen the trailer, and this could be one of the craziest films of 08, the premise of the movie may seem odd, but dont forget how funny this group of talent can be (sandler, schnieder, smigel, swardson, dugan) lethal.
