Yesterday we showed you a real-life animatronic version of Pixar’s Luxo, Jr. Today we bring you a photo of Disney’s real-world model of WALL-E on display at the Disney Animation pavillion at Disney’s California Adventure park in Anaheim, California. Wall-E is the coolest droid since R2.
How cute is he? If Disney had any real marketing sense, they would make a small robotic Wall-E toy unit for sale, kinda like the R2-D2 unit that Lucasfilm sells. I know I’d pay $100 bucks for a working, moving, squeaking, WALL-E unit. I might even pay up to $200 if he has a remote control functionality. I’m sure my cat would love it. Would you buy one? And for how much?

I haven’t seen this following remark anywhere else and it just came to me now, but isn’t Wall-E sort of a blatant ripoff of Jonny 5 from “Short Circuit”? From the eyes to the ‘wheels’ there is just too much similarity for me.

I also think that it would have been better not to create Wall-E so similar to Jhonny 5… anyway, the movie and the animation is sure to be fantastic, as everything by the Pixar geniuses… Regarding the model, I wouldn’t pay more than 100 bucks for a moving one…

I guess if you put 22 years between movies (Short Circuit, 1986), the target audience for your movie isn’t going to even know or recognise the similarity.
But I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Wall-E is a Super Deformed “Johnny Five”.

I don’t know what movie this Wall-E droid is supposed to be from, but it looks an _awful_ lot like Johnny 5 from Short Circuit.

Wall- E does look similar to Johnny 5 (”super deformed” similar) but to me Wall E also looks like ET because of his eyes. As for the model, a movie Master Replicas-esque prop would seem possible, but as far as R/C is concerned, if they were to make a toy, it would only, at the most, cost $25- $30. Remember, most of Pixar’s audience is kids, and their main target group. So in order to merchandize well, they have to fit their price range. Plus, Wall- E is only ONE movie, not a series like Star Wars.

I thought WALL-E looked like Number 5 too. But when I watched Short Circuit again last night. He doesn’t look like him at all really.

They are making a remote controlled version exactly like R2 D2 with voice commands. But, unlike R2 D2 - Walle comes with a remote.
