Zachary Quinto as Spock

JFXOnline have scored the first photos of Zachary Quinto (Heroes) as Spock in JJ Abrams’ Star Trek. The production is currently shooting in a chapel that has been converted to look like a Vulcan Council Chamber of some sort. IESB has some telephoto video footage of the shoot and Quinto in action.

Winona Ryder was cast as Spock’s human mother last week (likely for a flashback sequence, considering the actresses age). For a look at the new crew of the Enterprise, check out our Star Trek First Look. Star Trek will hit theaters on December 25th 2008.

well i think he needs to me more clean shaven and that should doit then we’ll have a spock we can invest on, as far as the whole plot goes i really hope its more complex rather than just some romulans going back in time to screw with the timeline thats just been donne way too much. if anything it oughta be the borg since they can pretty much do anything they want

    not bad right?
here he looks strangely similar to a guy who lives near mine…

An amazing resemblance to SNL veteran Steve Martin.

In the latter photo, an amazing resemblance to SNL veteran Steve Martin.

He looks almost/sorta JUST like the young Spock from the Star Trek III. Good casting.

  8. Gravatar

I have to say, he really DOES look more like Steve Martin than Spock.

J J Abrams has been quite clever in the past with shows such as Alias and Lost. I am hoping he will bring a fresh perspective on Star Trek and that he won’t re-hash any old storylines.

The one thing Trek has needed for a while is fresh blood - new script writers, new directors/producers and fundamentally new ideas. We need to get away from the constant technobabble and bizarre single-episode stories and focus more on human (or alien) drama and longer story arcs. This is what makes the revamped Battlestar Galactica so good and glues you to the TV week after week.

I am a Star Trek fan at heart but the best sci-fi for me at the moment is Battlestar Galactica.

Quinto as Spock gives new meaning to the Star Trek episode “Spock’s Brain”.

He looks the part, but can he act the part.

If they are already filming this what happened to Cloverfield?!

  13. Gravatar

Cloverfield comes out in January. It’s long been finished.

Let’s see if he can mind-meld with you without peeling the top of your head off.

Matt - who else would you rather have doing the new Trek?

    Mark - LOL!

Looks pretty cool enough to me, since i very wanted to see Zachary Quinto as Spock. But the one which makes me feel uneasy for STAR TREK is Chris Pine as Captain Kirk. Is the design of the new USS-ENTERPRISE finished yet?

  18. Gravatar

Jeffrey Hunter who played Cristopher Pike went off to do movies, so we got a great Captain in the original cast/script.
Now that ST is a big deal Chris Pine has had to choose between two movies of which ST won out. Are we loosing out on what is truly needed in the part of kirk? Are the producers gona have Pine back out and choose the other movie at the last minute and present us with the real deal to make it feel destined?
Or is Chris Pine better than we percieve him to be and right for the part?

  19. Gravatar

Mr. Quinto seems to look the part BUT can he keep to the original Spock character??? Will we get that deep baratone voice that Nimoy gave to Spock??? Maybe on the first question and a NO on the second.

By the way, I really laughed at the mind meld-peel the top of your head comment. LOL Excellent.
